It had been many weeks since the rather grumpy stallion had confessed to the bubbly mare. Over the course of a few hours he had struggled to express his true feelings, culminating in an outburst that could have been misunderstood as abusive. Alas, it had been his lucky day when he had chosen Sparkles as his object of affection given that there was so little that phased her. His little outburst had served only to make her giggle as she puzzled over it and his true intentions. Admittedly, he hadn't appreciated her immediate analysis of his words but he had at last relented on the basis that she had accepted them and had returned them.

Thus, within a matter of hours the two had agreed to be bonded to one another. The agreement had been a rather 'relaxed' one though, whereby neither drew forced the other to submit or change to fit with them. It had been this acceptance that had ensured their fragile relationship remained as strong as it was. There were no children involved, yet there was a rare form of affection demonstrated between flighty mare and anti-social stallion that very few would ever see.

Nevertheles, this afternoon was one of those days when Sparkles had taken to exploring on her own. Ever the social butterfly, she wasn't a creature who could remain out of the limelight for a long time. As a result she had left her disgruntled stallion to his own musings and had embarked on a day trip of her own. Breaking through the edge of the forest, she was content to wander across the meadows in an erratic fashion until something of interest cropped up. Admittedly it was rather early in the morning and few would be awake just yet, but this didn't stop her from getting into position!

Giggling softly, the mare began to hum more so to herself while her pale eyes surveyed the horizon. Sure enough, it wouldn't be long until something began to stir...even if it was a foal she could play with until more adult conversation was available.

Freshly scabbed over wounds tugged painfully at their wearer's legs as she limped tirelessly across the jagged terrain of rock and grass, flat silver hues focused on the ground below her hooves as she pondered the previous day's most recent turn of events. She had been sure, after her loss of control amongst the kind herd and her subsequent defeat, that some shadow-goer would approach to finish the job... but a rogue stallion... a fallen angel had been her guardian that night. She had slept better under his watchful eyes than she had in ages, and awoken to see his face once more under the dawning sunlight.

She had been surprised to see that he had kept his word and not left her when she fell asleep, but was grateful all the same... especially when it was clear that he had not slept at all. He was a mystery... and Amaya wasn't certain one she would ever unravel, but it gave her hope all the same.

That thought drew her to another curious development brought on by the angeni stallion's appearance... she had healed him. She had never attempted to harness those powers before, since she had no need for them, and had not expected that they would be passed down through her mixed blood, but now that she knew that they were, it gave her a new sense of purpose.

Her attention wavered from her thoughts as her hooves landed upon softer ground, metallic irises lifting from the dirt path to look across the grassy scenery. They widened fractionally when her gaze landed upon a most unexpected sight among the tall grasses, wings folding more tightly against her sides in self-conscious realization. A unicorn... like her mother. She had not seen one in quite a while, and the sight intimidated her a bit more than she would have liked to admit.

Would this one shun her, like all others had, at the sight of her kalona heritage?

Amaya shifted uncomfortably at the thought, masked head dropping a bit in an attempt to appear unthreatening... although she knew that it would do little good if this one was anything like those she had encountered before.

Still largely unaware of the existence of the mare, the unicorn made reasonable progress through the lengthy blades of grass. Wading through the strands, she pushed each aside and occasionally swatted at those that were rebellious enough to stroke her flank. It wasn't that she despised touch but she was terribly ticklish and would have preferred not to have such a thing happen. That being said it wasn't long before rose coloured eyes caught sight of an 'object' of interest in her immediate vicinity. Standing apart from the forest that she had exited with only birds for company, stood an apple tree.

With the approach of Autumn it should have come at absolutely no surprise that the blossoms had transformed and had produced the plump green fruit that now swung precariously from the branches. The unicorn certainly loved the transition between Summer and Autumn, the manner in which all life 'changed' and adapted according to the spirits whim. The nymphs slept, certain creatures curled up in their nests and certain plants produced a rather wonderful food. Autumn was the best time of year for the mare, with her favourite food ripe and ready to eat she certainly savoured each opportunity she had to acquire these fruits.

Thus it was with another enthuasiastic wag of her tail that the mare quickened her pace and circled the tree a few times. She could reach the lowest branches and their fruit with ease. However, all good apple connesiuers knew that the best fruit resided at the top. Her rose gaze shifted, inspecting the contours of the tree and the most suitable place to nudge it. Such examinations continued for a little while longer and then she seemed to locate the best area - a tiny kink in the bark that had already been disturbed by another individual.

Taking all this into consideration the mare circled the tree once more before turning her rump to her chosen place. A shake of her rear and she promptly slammed her rear hoof against the trunk. The tree seemed to quiver in surprise, shaking the top most branches and once again there was a delay. Patience was certainly tested in such moments, everything in life seemed to require it. However she was rewarded and the apples fell like heavy droplets of rain to the ground beneath her hooves.

"Hey..." she murmured more to herself, satisfaction radiating from her dappled form as she turned again to inspect her apples. There were those that were riper than others but she could already see the best pickings. Her ears perked and pivoted at this and she began to move forward just as the hair upon her neck seemed to rise. She had been so interested in her apples that she had failed to notice, but she was being watched.

The mare once again turned her head, catching sight of the ebony mare. From a distance the opposing mare looked like a unicorn, however, as the rising sun glinted off her form the kalona horns told another story. Ah, well the Kawani lands were certainly filled with a colourful band of Soquili. Alas, not one to be deterred the mare simply fixed her gaze on Amaya and watched her curiously. Head tilting to one side, the unicorn was more interested in the Uni-Kalona than anything. Not necessarily a wise approach but given past experiences, she wasn't as intimidated as another might have been...
