Blacklog
Mostly-purple paws rushed over the grass, missing many things in their path. As the single white paw hit the ground on the other side of a log, Tai stopped, breathing hard. Looking around, the pale cub frowned. How hard could it be to find a black lion? It shouldn't have been hard at ALL. But alas, it was. Growling low, the adolescent let out a roar, calling for his father.

The return call was almost instant. It didn't take Shin long to find his son, gently butting the blue-maned head. Smiling, he sat down. "You don't sound too happy, Tai. Is something bothering you?" Shin had been afraid of what sort of father he'd be, what with how he'd been raised. But when he'd seen Tai and Melhor... It had all ben so natural.

The white and lilac lion let out a rumble, shifting. He'd seen the scars on his father, he'd never questioned them. But now... Now he had to know. "Dad... Tell me about... About Grandpa. And I don't mean Bodaway. I mean, YOUR father." He frowned, staring his father in the eyes. It was something he had to know.

It felt like the world had stopped. Shin sat back, eyeing his son. "Why do you want to know?" He frowned, eyes slightly narrow. "I can only tell you what I know, and Grandmother isn't of the best mind to tell you what SHE knows..." What COULD he say? There wasn't too much he fancied saying about Toshiro.

"Everything, anything. I have to know." He sat down, almost glaring. As he shifted, his blue hair fell over his right eye, almost masking it. The frown was deep as he waited, not expecting his father to reveal too much. As long as it was anything at all, though, he'd be happy.

Shin sighed, looking down and to the side. "Where do I start...? As far as I know, my father lived.. VERY far away, at a place he called No Man's Oasis. He went there when he was about your age, led by a lion named Nyekundu. I never met him myself, but I knew one of his daughters... Very well..." His back twitched and twinged, pained by the memories. "But where he came from before that... Were the bones of the Graveyard."

Tai blinked, looking to the Elephant Graveyard off in the distance. The Graveyard? Why would any lion want to live there...? Frowning, he looked back at Shin. "Why there? Why would Grannie have any cubs THERE?" There was nothing but death there! Yet at the same time, seeing teh bones... He HAD been fascinated as a cub. Was this why? The fact his family had roots in the Graveyard? He didn't plan to find out, though.

He could only shrug. "You'd have to ask her yourself, IF you can get a straight answer. I just know the facts." Watching his son, he frowned. "But... That's not all there is to him. As you can imagine, I met him as a cub, being that he IS my father. And that's where my nightmare began..." Shin shivered, eyes closed. Never a good memory...

Now his attention was really held. Going up, Tai nudged his father. "What do you mean...? He can't have been that bad, can he?" Though he still wondered, who was this Nyekundu? And how many daughters DID he have? Not that Tai even cared, though. Girls held no fancey for him. After the way Haki had hurt him, though... Nobody held a fancey for him.

"I was his punching bag. Pretty much all of my scars, came from him." It was the blunt truth. Shin looked at his son sadly, not liking having to tell him this. "I could do nothing right, and if I messed up in even the slightest, he'd leave new claw marks on my back. He's even attacked his own mother, if only because she dared to have cubs. Your great-uncle, Sairin, hates him, and in fact saved both your mother and I from his wrath."

White fur promptly bristled, as did the blue mane. His grandfather had attacked his mother, as well as Grannie? A growl escaped as Tai stood up. "I can see why he hates him!" Tail lashing, he paced, then started off. "I have to go... Tell Mom I'll see her later. I have something to do." Paws moving quickly, he ran off, eyes burning with intention.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Shin watched his older son run off. He certainly hoped he wasn't going to go try to fight Toshiro. It would end very badly if he DID. Small as he was, old as he was getting, Shin knew his father would have the upper paw, knowing how to fight and knowing when to strike, how to dodge... He hoped, most of all, that Tai wasn't killed by the older lion. Shaking his head, he went to find Melhor and Kabichi.
