Kaoni dragged his feet as he slowly followed Jymei, lethargic in the heat. Jymei, for her part, did not have the energy to correct him. He knew they were both regretting the decision to attempt to find the place of his...birth? Creation? Well, whatever it was, they regretted trying to find it on a day as hot as this. He sighed heavily as he glanced at the temperature displayed on one of the electronics in a display in a store to his right. He longed to escape the heat, yet knew Jymei well enough to know she could not bear to be seen in any of the stores he'd seen up to this point. They were all so...middle class.
He lifted his eyes upward with considerable effort, tearing his gaze from the concrete sidewalk shimmering in the heat and turning it to the stores on his right. Something, anything that wasn't so low-class was all he needed. He could practically feel himself melting, and was about to voice a complaint when he saw it. A few stores ahead, there was a cafe. It was not by any means something she's normally consent to going into, yet he thought perhaps it was just quaint enough, just cute enough, and just hot enough that maybe, just maybe, she would give in.
Kaoni managed to quicken his pace and draw along side his caretaker. Plucking at her arm, he indicated the cafe. She hesitated, a look of great indecision on her face, then at last relented. They stepped inside to the sound of a small bell ringing, a look of ecstasy on their faces as they felt waves of air conditioning wash over them. After being seated at a small table not far from the door, they relaxed. Kaoni glanced over the menu, loathe to not be able to order his favorite beverage, hot chocolate, due to the heat outside.

Nes skipped along merrily, literally running circles around Velorius, who was moving at an unusually slow gait. For Velorius it was too hot to hurry do he took a relaxed pace to keep his exertion to a minimum, if there was one thing he hated it was sweating. Nes on the other hand seemed totally unaffected by the heat, in fact he seemed to thrive in it, becoming more energetic and hyper than he usually was, which left the boy rather impatient at Velorius's pace.
Bored, Nes regularly ventured off by himself, running up and down the street, peering in at the window displays then running back to pester Velorius with questions about what was on display. Velorius made no effort to curtail this behaviour, he simply didn't have the energy, the heat draining him of the will needed to keep Nes on a short lease and trying to keep Nes under control took a lot of energy.
Suddenly Nes came up along Velorius and tugged on his arm. "I'm thirsty" Velorius was far from surprised, rolling his eyes and sighing. "The way you've been running about I'm surprised you haven't passed out from heat stroke..." Looking along the street, Velorius saw the cafe on the far side of the road and lead Nes across to it.
As soon as they were in Nes released Velorius's hand and ran to a random table, climbing up to stand on one of the chairs as he peered round the interior. Velorius was just glad this place had air conditioning, but scowled when he saw Nes standing on the furniture. "Nes, sit! I've told you about this before..." Nes pouted at Vel for a moment then dropped down into the seat, wincing slightly as his rear hit the less than adequately padded chair.
"Well what do you want?" As soon as Vel asked, Nes grabbed at a menu and began reading through ti as he made little, 'umm' and 'ahh' sounds. Vel sighed, Nes would insist on going through the whole list even if he already knew what he wanted, just in case there was something new or interesting served here, this could take a while...

Kaoni's head tilted to the side. That voice...he was sure he had heard it before. "I'll take an iced mocha," he told his caretaker in a rush, glancing around the small cafe. Looking at it now, he was surprised Jymei had consented to even as quaint an establishment as this. It had none of the commodities he was used to in such a place, and certainly didn't look as if their pastries would be up to par. Perhaps even as simple of a drink as what he had ordered was might be screwed up. 'But that's beside the point,' he reminded himself with a quick and imperceptible shake of his head, then he resumed his search for the owner of the voice that had carried over the room. It was, he was certain, the voice of a male adult he had seen accompanying another boy like him once.
Indeed, mere fractions of moments later, his eyes alighted on a human and, more importantly, a boy whose origins he could tell were the same as his own. He stood, nodding at Jymei as if to say he would explain later, and walked over to the booth the other pocky-boy sat at. "Excuse me, sir..." He attempted to the the attention of the two.
