history: Aurelie was the daughter of the American ambassador in France, and spent her youth in France until it occurred to her father that she was acquiring a permanent French accent, so he sent her to a boarding school in England. After she got out of secondary school and took her A-Levels she applied for and was accepted to an Ivy League university on a full academic scholarship. By this time, she had already published her first novel and was working on a sequel. In California Aurelie realized that she loved being warm, and so, after graduating with a degree in English Literature, she used her royalties to put a down payment on a well-appointed cabin on Palu Island, where she decided to settle. Her family comes to visit over winter holidays to escape the chill European winters. Aurelie is now an up-and-coming writer. She writes best-selling fantasy novels under her own name, and under a nom de plume she writes gothic romance novels which have to be sold under the heading "erotica," they're so graphic. She came to Palu Island very early after its discovery, with the first wave of scientists. One of the scientists in the group was her fiance. They'd broken up because she refused to let him conduct experiments on Sascher-tort, and when the scientists were asked to leave, she chose to stay.

More History for Aurelie
When she was sixteen Aurelie was in a car crash in which the driver of the car that struck hers was drunk and going nearly sixty kilometers per hour over the speed limit. She lived, but her pelvic bone was crushed and a number of internal organs damaged irreparably. Her father was able to pull some strings and arrange for the necessary transplants to take place and she made a full recovery, but among the organs damaged was her uterus, which is irreplaceable and in which there is so much scar tissue it is impossible for her to bear a child to term, so though she is able to get pregnant, she cannot have live children. For the press she made statements about how she would be glad to adopt when she decided she wanted children, and give homes to those who needed them, but in reality it is incredibly painful for her to think that she is the end of her genetic line, and that she will never have a child of her own.
