Joyful giggles could be heard from what seemed like miles as the filly jumped in the puddles from a previous storm. It only lasted for a few moments, but the cool air it brought was a relief from the blistering heat of the sun's rays. The sounds stopped when the filly got mud in her face, but once she shook her head, more giggles and squeals.
Phaedra had finally gotten away from her mother's watchful eye, which left her in a meadow surrounded by woods, leaping in puddles, mud beginning to cake onto her wings and under her belly. She didn't care, though, which was evident by the piercing screams and laughter that nearly every young child made when they were having fun. Not a thing in the world could stop her merry-making.

Splashing down the trail, coated with his own mud a foal exited the forset, in full song. Khet was becoming a master at getting away from his parents now. He had become bored of bugging his father for flying lessons so he took his show on the road.
" Someone told me long ago theres a calm before the storm, I know; its been comin for some time. When its over, so they say, itll rain a sunny day, I know; shinin down like water.
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? I want to know, have you ever seen the rain Comin down on a sunny day?
Yesterday, and days before, sun is cold and rain is hard, I know; been that way for all my time. til forever, on it goes through the circle, fast and slow, I know; it cant stop, I wonder.
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain? I want to know, have you ever seen the rain Comin down on a sunny day?"
The foal was singing his heart out, obivious to the world around him. Not that he cared. His family was just a line of singers. His father, his grandfather, his uncle. Khet was just following his families call.

Phaedra stopped splashing when she heard something. Her eyes widened, but rested again when she noticed what it was. Wait a minute... What was it, exactly? She wasn't very smart when it came to words. When it came to her, she nearly shrieked. "Singing!!! That's what it is! Singing!"
However, her excitement soon changed to curiosity. What would be singing? She'd heard of birds singing, but they couldn't use actual words. Maybe it was a fish! The foal ambled toward the sounds, stopping at every mudpuddle along the way.

Khet stopped singing for a moment. Was that a voice? He mulled it over in his head for a moment before continuing his song. Where he knew it was a mystery. "IIIIII wanna knooowwww, have you ever seen the rain? I wanna know, have you every seen the rain....Coming down on sunnnnny days." He stomped in a big puddle as he finished the chours, sending mud everywhere. He let out a giggle before shaking off the mud from his pelt even though it was stained brown in some places. The smoke around his hooves was the only thing that hadn't changed colours. He thought about taking some sorta bath in the river...But instead he burst back out into song.

The filly stopped splashing in the puddles when the singing started again. Instead, she walked until she saw the mud-covered figure in the distance. Phaedra stopped, examining the colt. He had wings like her! Was it her brother? It couldn't be, the places on him she could see were black, not white. Maybe it was just some old grumpy stallion, like the other winged horse she'd met. None the less, she was curious.
She began to walk toward the seemingly distant figure, only to realize it wasn't distant at all! In fact, it was another foal! Oh, how exciting! "Hey!" she shouted, "What'cha singin' about?!"

"Huh?" The colt looked around to the frilly before him. She was as muddy as he was, so it was hard to make out what she looked like. "Bout the rain. It has been raining, ya know...Well...Ya do know. I was about to go down to the river to wash off the mud. It's starting to harden on my back and it's ichy and annoying." he ruffled his wings a little. "How about you come with me?" He suddenly blurred out with a can't of his head. "Name's Khet, by the way." Khet smiled and flicked his tail around.

"Why would be be singing about the rain? Aren't there better things to sing about?" She cocked her head to the side when he asked her to go to the river. "Well, I'm not so sure that's such a great idea... Last time I went swimming, my wings got too heavy for me to hold up and I had to get somebody to help me." Nodding, she considered it more. "Well... Maybe if you could help me get mine dry I could go with you?" Her face lit up as she pawed at the ground excitedly. "I'm Phaedra. You can call me Phae if you want, though. Or you can call me Phaedra. Either one works."

"I sing what I feel like." He said shrugging. "It was raining....And we won't go that far out. Just in the shallows." He became a little confused when she spoke about helping her dry her wing. "O...k...." He tapped the ground with his hoove for a moment before speaking again. "Come on, this way!" He said heading out in a light trot. "It ain't that far away Phae." He told her with a smile on his face. This was going to be fun!

Phaedra nodded. "I s'pose that makes sense, but... Where do you get the songs from? Sometimes my two-legger sings, but nobody else in my teepee does." Nodding again, the filly grinned and followed the other foal. It felt nice to be able to play with somebody her own age for once. "Y'know, Khet, you're the only other foal I've met other than my brother and sister, and Amitola."

"Errrmmm..." He paused at her question. "Not too sure...I asked my dad and he didn't know either...But it's like we got songs that have just been put into our heads and we just call them up when we want." It was the best explenation he had as they reached the river. "Really? Besides my sister, your the only frilly I've met....I've met some other foals but not for long..." He flicked his tail before stepping into calm water, the steam around hooves seemed to get angry and flared up. The foal then lowered himself down before rolling around, causing the water to cloud up with mud. When he stood up his white under belly became visible, along with the odd patterns running down his legs. He looked totally different without his muddy coat.

"Oh. Well that's pretty nifty, if you ask me." She smiled and nodded. Phae's eyes widened when the steam rose from the water. What was he doing to it? "Uh... How come the water does that when you put your hooves in it? Does that always happen when you do that?" The tiny filly was facinated.
