My apartment was recently infested with fleas.. I had to get an exterminator in to kill them so I could go on about my life without being miserably itchy.

I feel bad about having to kill the things, but there was no way to transport them outside or anything.

So... should you kill vermin or not?

Ideally - that's the fleas' new home, and you either live with them or move out.

Practically - you're just going to have to have them exterminated. I think there might be deterrents you can use before an exterminator, and special ways to get rid of them without killing them outright - although from the sound of it, you made the right decision.

Even so - don't feel bad. The action has happened already, and the karma has already been set in motion. You can't avoid it, only soften it. So sit, practice and follow the path. You probably won't even notice the consequence.

Now, about vermin. Insects and fleas and the like are very bothersome but can be dealt with without actually killing them or anything - just remove the source of their food and they'll leave - or discourage their building of nests (see: bees). Rats and mice can be caught and released - stinky freeloading roommates you'll have to boot out on your own.

Removing their food source would have meant leaving and taking my kitties and my boyfriend, and my a*****e former roommate with me. All in all, an expensive proposition, especially at the start of the school year.

just for future reference for anyone who is interested.

i also hate to kill bugs and even though cockaroaches throw me into a serious panic i attack i make my boyfriend catch them and then release them outdoors.

if you want to keep your house free of bugs you could also invest in different types of herbs which are known to have naturally occuring insect repellants.

catnip for example repells mosquitoes. just google it and youll find loads of stuff 3nodding

you could also opt for something that sterilizes the insects rather than poison them.

my boyfriends house comepletely and horribly infested with small cockaroaches but they picked up one of these sterilizers (sorry i dont know exactly what the name was sweatdrop ) but he says that now he hasnt seen one in months.

before they would bomb the house and could never get rid of them! ^__^

hope this all helps someone! 3nodding
