User ImageFinally she'd managed to get away from those fools deemed her 'family' and slip away unseen; 'off into the darkness' as one might so aptly put it. A pity she was already trapped forever by her own lack of sight. Well, no matter. Her others senses were more than capable of allowing her to navigate smoothly. Was it night or was it day, for instance? The warmth radiating from springy grass and small pebbles underneath her hard claws signified the latter. Nefertiti carried herself with an arrogant sort of grace, her head held high and her tattered wing spines rippling gently in time with the sway of her tails. She couldn't afford to stop moving yet--not when one of her fathers could so easily catch up to her. She kept a careful ear out and her pierced tongue slithered gracefully from her jaws to continuously check for new scents.

Some time later, the teenager would eventually come to a halt. Her paws flexed for a moment into the soil, as though testing its consistancy, before she settled delicately on her hinds. Hm. This should be far enough. She had no intention on leaving her trio of idiots--she only required a little time to enjoy herself to the fullest before returning. After all, she was the brains of that little outfit. Idly, a golden-flecked paw was lifted to her bright muzzle so she could meticulously begin to groom it.

Others might think it a pity that she would never be able to see herself in all her glory, but Nefertiti knew better. She did not need to lay eyes upon her hide to know how beautiful she was, able to sense it in every fiber of her being. It was a small price to pay; other, lesser creatures would forever hold her in a sickly light of envy for her worth (not just physical appearance, of course) while she accepted the attention like a noble queen. Though, she mused as her tongue ran itself fastidiously across one golden canine, what a shame that she had to extend herself to such creatures like the ones that claimed relation to her...

...She supposed they had their uses.

Sloth lay, like a mushroom, on a shadey log, as was common for the young Nightmare to do. It was hard to tell wether or not he was sleeping - eyes shut forever by the rusty wire that he bothered not to question about. He accepted his blindness, and decided that not seeing didn't bother him -- he got along well enough without it. After all, when you spend most of the time laying around, what use did you have for it anyway?

He would have been a grand sight, had not he dust collected on his horns, and moss clinging to his spinewhisps. A nice bath would have done his some good aswell, to wash out the mudd and gore from his furr, but as it was Sloth payed no mind to this. Again, he couldn't see, so his appearance hardly bothered him.

His ears tweeked when he heard the footsteps of another come to a halt. Figuring that it might be in his best interest to answer, lest it be some creatur wanting a quick snack, he slowly lifted his head, and in a weezing voice asked;

"Whooo...goes *breath* there?"

His voice was very crakley, and weezy, as if his lungs were only doing the least amount of work positively needed. What more would one expect of Sloth?

The whispering rasp fell unpleasantly upon her ears, enough for the vain creature to give pause for a moment in mid-lick before she resumed her grooming. Only when her entire foreleg was thoroughly cleaned did she turn her attention to responding. Or, for that matter, locating the one who had addressed her. A quick taste of the air filled her senses with moldy earth and rust, and, had she lips to wrinkle, they would have curled back curiously, perhaps with a bit of disgust. Honestly, what living creature would allow themselves to exist in such a state? No matter. Her brother crept around with blood oozing from his fur all day--she was no delicate princess, unable to handle a bit of filth. But blood and gore was one thing, and mold was quite another.

"Better to offer your name first if you hope to learn another's." She replied boredly, her tone somewhat clipped. "And just what are you? You smell as though you've been rolling around in the mud." Then promptly remained still for a century so the dust and moss could permanently ingrain themselves in his system. Him? Oh, yes, the voice had definitely sounded masculine, if a little hoarse.

Promptly switching feet, Nefertiti began to lavish attention upon her other front paw. It wouldn't do to only have one clean--especially when there was nothing better to do. Perhaps this new, unknown voice would offer some amusement? She'd never met someone outside her family...save for one, screeching female Nightmare when she was just a babe. Nefertiti didn't like to think about that if she could help it.

Sloth thought about it for a moment, but then decided, in order to get what he wanted, he had to first bother with what the other wanted.

"This one isss *breath* Sssloooth. Whoo is *breath* that one?" He said, asking for her name in return.

When she asked what he was, a wry grin spread upon Sloth's face. His tongue flickered out for a moment, taskting the air. Used to his own scent, finding the other nightmare's was no problem.

"I am *weeze* like yourself. *breath* A nightmare."

Sloth lowered his head back upon the log, as he could acutely hear the other's grooming. Why one bothered with such things when they could not see, was totally lost upon him. To go through all that trouble, and be unable to bask in the reward of beauty or clinliness just seemed like a waste of energy. Precious energy, which the lean, lazy nightmare didn't have.

Sloth...how apt. She snorted softly to herself and finished her grooming, allowing her paw to settle lightly back to the earth. "No wonder." Came the muse, though she saw no need to explain. If he was clever enough to pick up on the slight, all the more amusing for her--if not, no loss.

"Nefertiti." The female introduced herself, now using her cleaned claws to absently scratch at her chest. "Another nightmare..." Hm. That meant little. Her brother was a nightmare--her two fathers were not. Race held no worth in her sewn eyes. "Is that supposed to mean something to me?" She questioned sweetly, baring golden canines in an unseen grin. "Whether you are nightmare or not, all that boils down to in the end is an unfortunate lack of sight and a larger, more capable body to work with. Of course, we best understands what it means to suffer, but that means very little to me."

She seemed unbothered by her callousness, dropping her muzzle to carefully clean her fur with a sharpened beak. "You are alone, then?" Or perhaps he too had 'family' poking around in the brush.

"Nightmares are feared. *breath* Are you not proud to be feared? It meanses few will bother ussss" And the less they bothered, the less he had to put up with.

The sudden squeek and scurrying of a mouse caught Sloth's ears, and for a moment he debated on weather or not he was hungry. Deciding he was, he swiped at it with unexpected speed and accuracy, coming back with the creature in his mouth, blood now coating his dusty, ivory beak.
And like the gentleman he wasn't, he didn't offer to share his quarry with Nefertiti, but savored his meal for himself. It was then, her next question caught his ears.

"Alone? *breath* This one is never alone. But if you *weeze* mean others of our kind *breath* then no. No onesesss *breath* Are here."

"This may be true," Nefertiti said loftily with a soft chuckle. "With fear comes respect--not that I need to be feared to have that... but my father is no nightmare, and he fears me as much as a sparrow would fear a worm. Some weak-minded fools might be swayed by species alone, but I wouldn't dare use it so boldly as a weapon."

A sharp cry and a crunch of bone earned a soft, pleasant murmur from the female, distantly pleased by the death. So, he could fend for himself, and could do so in a way that was fitting. And, as she hadn't been splattered with entrails yet, he had more manners than Slawter--yet another point for this dusty stranger. "Don't choke." Like she wouldn't enjoy that, either.

"Hm. Have you no tailing foster-figures, then? What a pity. Then you, too, could share in my irritation." Such a loss, truly. Nefertiti snorted absently to herself. "You do not sound at all old--tell me, why do you smell of moss and dust?" Had he been scrabbling around in some sort of cave?

"You are a curiousss that one," Sloth said. Most of the time he left his questions in his mind, not at all worried about getting them answered.

"The forest looks kindly on me *weeze* I do not need others to *breath* care for me."
A silence filled with the weezy breething of the other passed, as if he were gathering up the energy to speak again. "Moss and dust. Be cause this one is Sloth! Like the very sin I personify. *breath*"

Letting his tongue flick out, he tasted the air around Nefertiti. Judging by the cleaniliness of the other, and radiant air given off, by one so sure of her own beauty, he gave a grin. Mentally he hissed; 'Vanity'.
How very quaint -- to come upon another as sinful as himself.

Hm. An odd statement, one to be taken in either positive or negative light. She, of course, would accept the former with the barest cant of her head and saw little to remark on. "The same could be said for you." The teen quipped, then promptly sneered at his next statement. So--had that been his attempt at a slight? "No, and no need to manipulate others, from the looks of it..." The forest looked kindly on him--hah! Yes, with its filthy mold and rotting earth, that seemed fitting enough.

"Personification of a sin..." Nefertiti mused, allowing her pierced tongue to flicker idly with her amusement. Now didn't that sound a tad...deluded? Oh yes, entirely. She was unaware of her 'title' so to speak, seeing no reason to ever question the way she felt and carried herself. "You fit it beautifully." The female chuckled dismissively and tossed her head. "If you keep it up, I'll hardly be surprised to find you rooted to the ground."

"Most of my curiosity stays in my head. *breath* I waste my energy only on those who *weeze* humor me,." Because he sure as heck wasn't going to go looking for amusement.

Sloth had earned his tittle from his normal resting spot by the roadside. Other spoke of sin, and from there had been born his deluded mindset. But, you learn a lot when you do nothing but sit like a bump on a log, or a fly on the wall. People talk. People gossip. All sloth had to do, was sit and let it all sink in like osmosis. One would be supprised how well that worked for the vile nightmare.

"So has been said many a time *breath* By many who travel this very path."

"I'm flattered." She practically purred, inwardly satisfied with his response--and no less amused at him for it. "You are not so difficult to humor, fear not." Ohh, she knew he meant that in another way, but why bother when it was so easy to take and twist it to her liking? Besides, he'd already shown he could handle a few jabs and not get huffy about it. Not like a certain sibling of hers...though, she supposed it made him endearing.

Gossip, mm? She'd much rather twist the information out of them herself, using clever words and mind games to crack just what she wanted from unknowing souls. Not that she'd encountered many, mind, and the intelligence of her 'family' was debatable, but. "So people chatter at you freely? I thought you said you only wasted energy on those who humored you..." Nefertiti mused, perhaps a little teasing as she twisted her head in the direction of his voice. "Wasn't that right?"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 30, 2008 9:47 pm

"Those who travel together talk among themselves. *weeze* Others might comment to me, but that doesn't mean I will waste my *breath* breath with a reply." It all depended on weather or not Sloth wanted to reply or not. Sometimes, it just wasn't worth the effort.
Just like it wasn't worth the effort to get upset. Considering that, Sloth was an easygoing fellow, if one could ignore his lack of....any sort of cleanliness.

So he had a keen ear for gossip, hm? That in itself could be useful, and she, too, knew of its uses. "Yet you were quite keen to call out to me~ I can't fault you, I suppose. After all, besides the obvious, I was also an...intruder in this little abode of yours." Her tails flicked absently to themselves. Hm. Could it be that she was...content with this one's apathy? Well, of course. After dealing with the psychotics of her family, any sort of calm and reasonable conversation was welcomed. "And if you're taken unaware?" Nefertiti prodded idly. "Can you move fast enough to save your own skin, I wonder...?"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 30, 2008 10:28 pm

"When it directly benifits me -- that is when I take action. *breath* Unless something is going to take little to no effor to achieve, it isn't worth my time." Sloth gave a grin.
He had been fast enough to snap up his food, certainly he was fast enough to save his neck, and live to sleep another day--

"Not a complete waste of space, then." Nefertiti laughed and parted her jaws almost playfully to hiss. "Are your only motivations food and idle gossip? What a waste of potential..." The female yawned and gave her head a dainty shake, tongue snaking to touch at her muzzle. "I can almost feel myself beginning to lose my motivation...almost."

She pushed herself to her feet once more, her lack of interest slowly sapping her desire to linger for much longer. "I suppose it would have to benefit you to discuss these matters, however trivial, with me...though might I suggest you drag yourself down to a river? If the cleansing didn't benefit you, I'm sure it would benefit everyone else."
