Oh... wow..
rolleyes nice theme... I personally think they are a distructive cult, afterall I read, heared and experianced. So first of all I can advise evryone to read the wikipedia entry on them
here There are many links pro and contra in the end.
Last year I read an interesting discussion on New Kadampa in the buddhist forum on beliefnet.com, but this must have been removed, tryed to find the thread... sorry...too bad, because I found this very illuminating!
Anyway, I also once went to a New Kadampa Meeting in my city (they are everywhere) and listened to what the teacher there said. From my experiance and what I had heard from buddhist friends, this young lady who taught there didn't have any profund understanding of what she was talking about. It didn't make much sense. Also the people I met there where kinda strange (you must know, I hadn't heared anything about New Kadampa at this time), I talked to them after the teaching and said, that I read some books by H.H. Dalai Lama and also mentioned other famous teachers (Sogyal Rinpoche, Trungpa and others), but they where like: Oh haven't you read a book by our teacher, you should do that etc... It was like they wanted to sell me the book very badly, also they showed me some photos of a center in England and very really talking me into the ground. Asking will you come back etc.
xp gonk Let's say I just realized, there is something wrong, it smelled like rotten fish to me, the only thing was, that I didn't have a clue, what the point was. So i did some research on them, and came to my conclusion. They are a cult! And from my experiance with members I can say, they acted like cult members. Also their teacher Kelsang Gyatso, does not seem to have the qualities a good dharma teacher should have.
