First off, i'm not saying Naruto is a bad anime (the countless awards have proved me wrong on these accounts, I'm saying its over-rated and theres a HUGE marjin of a difference in those two words.)
Ninja's for me are:
* Discrete
* Minimum colour
* are covert with their operations
* pretty much emotionless when it comes to missions
* you know, the basic stuff, call me old fashioned.
To have a whole clan of brightly coloured, scantly clad ninjas (im talkin Gai sensai's revealing green suit with bulging ballsack) with more flashy effects than a Kylie Minogue concert I failed too see or even class the whole cast of Naruto crew as Ninjas.
Orange....Enough said.
Anyway, you got the cast of the sterotypical pre-teens
Naruto: Class Clown
Sakura: Mean girl who judges people before she properly knows em. I.E my worst nightmare, it makes it worse that shes compeltly ******** useless and Stevie wonder could spot her pink pubes a mile away.
Sasuke: "Im popular but dont wanna be, the stick up my arse has a stick up its arse."
Ten-Ten: Phail.
Gaara: Complete God, he's got good character development and if his story can make me cry, its instant win. It invokes passion and trauma, two things i love in stories.
Rock lee: a Bruce lee + Jackie Chan Fusion HA! creates this guy, he's pretty mcuh what i like in a character, a hard working type of fella whos in no way getting the girl, too bad all the other a** wholes steal all of his moves.
The absolute worse thing about naruto is the mutha F*** fillers! You can get those snakes off my plane, 2050506000 and something episodes is enough for me to go batty.
What else do i hate?
*Poor voice acting
*The fanbase is laughably huge
*too many flashbacks
*too much talking
*everyones a ninja, i dont lyke it, it scares me
* a lot of their work isnt all that original, i can back that up but its better off if you do your own research.
Naruto Shippuden: I watched it in able for Naruto to redeem itself, it worked, my respect for Sakura has gone up 5 points, Naruto not so much, i wanted him to mature a bit more. He's become so repetative and im not talking about his catchphrase, I'm talking about finding Saskue, then all these promises he makes during which time he's managed to be able to keep. but its like:
"I'll definantly get [Insert-your-Captured-princeess-here aka Saskue-is-in-another-castle-] back"
Which takes whum million and dickity two episodes and by which time i've grown a p***s and have called all my kids charlie by the time the series ends.
Im so f*ckin glad i never watched this stuff when i was Ryoko in FG, i would've gotten distracted
Advice: Watch Avatar the Last Airbender, you get great character development, sweet plot and awsome kungfu without stupid fillers.
And if you DO watch Avatar already?

Why not jus skip the fillers? I agree with most points there, ESPECIALLY the fillers, but saying something you can skip brings it down that much is...kind of illogical.
However, I agree, it is overrated. It's quite good...but still, yes, it is overrated.

Its gateway-kids anime, even in when dubbed, you can't really expect it to be tailored to the tastes of older teen/young adult. ~_~;;

I dunno, I've seen some clips that make me think if they hadn't dubbed it for kids, it would be so much more awesome... The only reason I have the first 4 seasons on DVD is because I enjoy watching Naruto get his arse kicked and because some of those episodes have Gaara. And I missed a few episodes during the Chunin exams (Sakura vs. Ino--total les hawtness n_n). And some things with Orochimaru and Sasuke... Total ***** right there. And Michael Jackson. With snakes. Scariest thing I've seen in my entire life. And I was hoping that I could figure out how to upload the eppies onto my comp without destroying anything. Nothin' on that yet. Okay, lotsa reasons. Anyway, yeah, it is over-rated, but that doesn't stop me from being a total Narutard.
And I'm sure I could write a few fanfiction and/or doujinshi that would make it more appealing to the, er... mature crowd. ^o^

I've already actually made myself a Naruto OC, i wouldnt go so far as to call myself a narutard though....huhuh (narusaku 4eva) ninja Yeah the chunin exams was pretty cool and Gaara just keeps getting sexier...Yeah i said it, sue me. Orochimaru just makes me laugh, he keeps belching out snakes everytime i see him im suprised Sasuke hasnt gone 'Eww' In the gayest way possible.

It probably doesn't help that I'm dead scared of snakes and Michael Jackson is the most disturbing dude on the face of the universe. And I agree, Gaara does keep getting smexier. 3nodding But I personally ship NaruHina. I want Lee to get Sakura, and Sasuke can stay in his own private little emo hell and do whatever little emo things he does. I also have an OC for Naruto. Her name is Hitomi and she somehow managed to become Tsunade's little mini-clone before I even knew who Tsunade was. xd I dunno how I do that. And I only say I'm a Narutard because I cosplayed as Ino once. n_n That was fun.

If you're watching the english dubbed Naruto, that is a major mistake on your part xD The moment I heard 'Believe it!' a third time, I switched to Japs with subs and just started over. Made things THAT much better. Seriously.
I'll admit, it is definitely anything but Ninja-esq, and over-rated too, but it is nonetheless a good show. ^^;;

I'm gonna have to help Rae and Sou shamelessly plug. o.o Berserk and One Piece are surprisingly awesome. Though Berserk is gory, so people who aren't into that sort of stuff shouldn't read it.
Also, Naruto Shippuuden has faced a serious drop in quality. Sure, the plot has gone down an interesting area but it can't back that up for too long without some actually entertaining fights. Don't get me wrong, the fight with Deidara and Sakura and Chiyo was full of f***win animation.
