There comes a time twice every year where the experienced Genin is able to showcase to their village and others of the things they've learned throughout their career as a ninja so far. In reality, it's a way to keep peace among many villages by showing the current power of their hometown. Such public acceptance allows ease in keeping ties on one another, as it also helps lessen the fear of war. But for the Genin, it's a way for them to see how far they've progressed and to further see how much they need to progress. And for those who exhibit the necessary skills, no matter if they win or lose in the main round, will be promoted by their village to the rank of Chuunin, a prized position for any ninja to accomplish. Now it's that time of year, the time where Konoha would once again experience the flow of Chuunin candidates. It is time for the Chuunin Exams!

 Rules
~ ALL TEXT ON THIS POST MUST BE READ. NO EXCEPTIONS. ~ Obey all Gaian ToS. I shouldn't have to tell you this, but it seems with problems in the past, I might as well say it. ~ THIS EXAM IS LITERATE. Now, literate doesn't exactly mean lengthy, but it DOES mean that you use proper grammar and spelling. If you can clearly explain what you're doing in two sentences, go right ahead. If you can't, the solution is simple. WRITE MORE. You have PLENTY of time. To make it easy on you and whoever you're combatting, so you don't spend half of you allotted time trying to explain what you did, a bulleted summary of what you did works best at the bottom of your post. ~ Spectators are definitely welcome. There will be plenty, just make sure you do not get in the way of battles. ONLY MEMBERS OF TEAMS ARE ALLOWED TO ASSIST THEIR TEAMMATES, and only after every SEVEN POSTS. That means a team could have up to two assists per fight, and there must be at least a seven-post gap in between. ~ For roleplaying outside of the exams, please visit the Konoha: Village Hidden in the Leaves thread. ~ Foreign ninja ARE allowed to participate. Allies of Konoha may be paired up in teams along with Konohakagure ninja. Unless you have a team of three from your village, you'll be moved around where a space is available. Foreign teams may also have their own specific Jounin, but they must report to ME OR SHIKAMARU for approval. ~ Jounin will be proctoring the matches, and their word is law. The Jounin will treat all genin under their jurisdiction fairly, and will assess all problems.

Team Tournament The object of the team tournament is to obtain two things: A Heaven Scroll, and an Earth Scroll. Each member of the team will be given an image by PM with their designated scroll, and are only to give the image to the other team upon defeat. All the teams will be assigned a squad number, and half will be drawn randomly. Those that are drawn will have to pick a location (North, South, East, or West Sector) and wait there. Those teams that were not drawn are allowed to pick their opponents, by approaching the team at a designated sector. Since teams are oblivious to which team has which scrolls, it may take more than one battle to complete the first round of the exam. You are allotted more time to complete more battles to obtain the right scrolls. You do not have to start a battle immidiately, you ARE allowed to approach the team and ask what scroll they have, but it MUST be done in character. You are also allowed to pass up a battle if they don't have the scroll you want, and may wait for other teams to finish before scouting for a new opponent. TEAMS MUST SURRENDER THEIR SCROLL UPON DEFEAT. If in the event that they have the same scroll as the team that fought them, the winners may allow them to keep their scroll. This tournament will run for THREE WEEKS TIME. That means, after the alloted time ends, this elimination tournament ends. The point of this part of the exam is to lower the number of participants. Those who do not advance through the Team Tournament will likely not be made Chuunins by their village. Now, the battles are orchestrated as such: only one member from each team is allowed to fight at a time. Each fight is made up of three battles. Another member cannot be tagged in until the end of the fight. A fight is declared over by the designated judge when a fighter is A) unable to fight, B) loses conscious, C) surrenders, or D) goes out of bounds. The Out of bounds will be told to the participants before their match, as each team battle will take place in different areas. If a battle durates too long, or cannot be finished on time, a proctor will make an official decision based on the posts available. In a fight, both active fighters can only make a max of 17 posts. That means, if not one of them loses before then, the fight is over, and both must tag out, as long as they have a member who can fight. If they are the only ones capable of fighting, then they remain on the field and continue until the entire match is over. Before every match, all three members of the team must be present. If not, then that team is disqualified. So in summary:
Half of the teams will choose a location, while the other half are allowed to approach a team of their choosing. The object is to find a team with the opposite scroll, and win it, and bring it back to the tower in the middle of the forest.
You may battle more than one team, if they don't have the correct scroll. But keep in mind, the longer you dwell and fight in the forest of death, the more tired your team will become.
You may pass up a battle if they don't have the right scroll, but both parties must agree to it. From there, you can spy on other teams or wait until other battles have finished before challenging another team.
Teams who have lost need to stay in the area they lost in. You will be given a second chance to earn a spot in the next round.
Each match will have a max of three fights.
In each match, each fighter can make a max of 17 posts before the referee ends the fight. If there is no definite victor, the winner is not declared until the end of the match when the judges review it.
Team members can tag only after the end of a match.
If a referee sees that a fighter is no longer able to fight or is in great danger of being killed due to a injury of sorts, they will stop the fight immediately.
All matches have three weeks to finish. If they do not by then, judges will declare the winning team.
Team Assist
There is a way, however, to gain assistance from your teammates, as long as you listen to the following rules: If a team member feels like they need to assist their teammate, or if the active fighter calls for this assistance, the member who is going to make the assist must make a post immediately stating their about to make an assistance, usually posting in big letters “ASSISTING” works well. Once the assisting member says this, he/she then posts again with their post. In this post, the member is allowed to perform their action. However, the assisting member only has one post before they must return to the sidelines. Which then, the team cannot make a Team Assist again for six of their teammate’s posts. If they do, the current fight is declared a DQ to the active fighter, giving the other team one win within the two out of three win limit. When the team assister makes his/her post, the fighter who was supposed to go next in the post order will make their reaction. The assister returns to the sidelines once their turn in the post order comes up. If they are in some opposing action, such as being attacked, then they can defend however they wish, but must return to the sidelines right after. Remaining in the ring willingly will count as a DQ for the current fight.

Semi-Finals Since there are so many people guaranteed into the exams, we're going to need a semi-final round to narrow it down even more. These battles are all one-on-one matches, and all matches will be pre-determined. These battles will start taking place ONE WEEK after the team tourney has ended. This gives proctors time to grade, and to set up for the Semi-Finals. Fifteen genin will have passed by obtaining both scrolls. You won't have use of those yet, but you WILL see what's inside. However, you won't be given any direction on what to do or how to use them until the final matches. If you can crack it on your own, then you have an advantage in the final rounds, if you pass the semi-finals. As for the number, it's obviously odd. Since we need an even number of matches to take to the finals, FIVE GENIN WILL BE ADDED TO THE ROSTER FOR THE SEMI-FINALS. All the teams who didn't pass have a chance, and proctors will be referring who'd they'd like to see pass on to the next task. There will be a competitor/spectator (those who have posted, only) vote for the five genin who should be added to the next round. The only rule is that you cannot vote for yourself, or someone on the team you just participated in. Please give your honest opinion of who you believe is the most qualified to compete in the next round. Proctors will be judging these one-on-one matches, just like last time. Keep looking for more updates once the team tourney is over. Quote: In each fight, each fighter can make only a max of 19 posts. Each round of this tournament will last for one week each. All fights will take place on the same terrain, though in different arenas. If no one loses before their post limit or time limit is reached, the judges will declare the winner.

Final Tournament After the Semi-Finals in the Chuunin exams tower, the final part of the exam takes place one week after it has ended, in the Chuunin Exam Stadium. This is when the fighters are able to showcase their skills to their leaders to see if they have what it takes to become Chuunin. No matter if a fighter wins or loses, at the end of this tournament, those promoted to Chuunin will be announced. Being a Chuunin depends on the fighter’s performance, intellect, and skill in battle. Just because a fighter uses a powerful skill over and over doesn’t mean they’ll be likely to become Chuunin. More likely the fighter who can fend against such attacks with tactics will become Chuunin. However, in the tournament, all Genins are for themselves. That means, who may have been your teammate in the team tournament is now your opponent in this one. Though all fights are randomly chosen, so they may or may not have the luck of facing their own team member. In each fight, each fighter can make only a max of 21 posts. Each round of this tournament will last for one week each. All fights will take place on the same terrain, though in different arenas. If no one loses before their post limit or time limit is reached, the judges will declare the winner. Scrolls Remember those Heaven and Earth scrolls you obtained through the team tournament? These will provide some useful help for you in this series of one-on-one matches. You will be given more details later...

Battle Rules In Short ~ Only one offensive-type ninjutsu per post. ~ Jutsu must be of appropriate genin level, and must display the originality of an original character. To have acquired a skill familiar to a canon character, they must have trained with that character IC in the roleplay. ~ No innescapable genjutsu. No godmodders, you guys know better. ~ Taijutsu wears out energy. Use your stamina accordingly. This is your place for battle etiquette rules. I don't want people arguing too much about using different attacks. Whether it's a spar or a battle vs enemy forces, you must use these rules, and refer to these guidelines. Keep in mind that Taijutsu uses pure stamina, but Ninjutsu and Genjustu both absorb chakra. Come on, people, be reasonable with how much chakra you have. Make sure that none of your attacks godmod in any way, or else I'm going to need to have a serious talk with you, which may result in blacklisting. So, let's just be safe about it. Also, keep in mind, NO CHARACTER IS INVINCIBLE. Be polite, take a hit every once in awhile. Okay, we know that there are some Narutard-haters out there, ones that believe the system of how their attacks are classified doesn't fit a realistic genre. Of course, THIS ISN'T REALISTIC. But anyway, for characters who aren't Naruto-related, or need a little help with the chakra system, we have a little synopsis to make it a bit easier. --- WHAT IS CHAKRA? Chakra is the energy needed by a ninja to perform special ninja arts and techniques called 'jutsu'. Chakra is generated within the body by the combination of two elements: physical energy that comes from the body's cells and spiritual/mental energy that it gained through training and meditation. HOW DO I PERFORM A JUTSU? Special hand signs, known as seals or katas, convert chakra into a specific jutsu. WHAT TYPES OF JUTSUS ARE THERE? Jutsu can be classified into 5 different elements: fire, wind, water, earth, and lightning. Depending on which jutsu a person uses, the type and amout of chakra that is used is different. --- Taijutsu: Martial Techniques Pretty much, all I really have to say is, no going overboard. Make sure that each of your attacks are clearly noted, where you're attacking, and if you use a weapon, make the range known. Genjutsu: Illusions Remember, these techniques do drain chakra. BY NO MEANS, ARE THERE UNESCAPABLE ILLUSIONS. I wanted to make that perfectly clear. If you have any questions about what is or is not acceptable, please feel free to PM me. When all else fails, use chance. Set a time limit by rolling a few-sided dice or selecting a random number in post actions to determine how long a genjutsu effect will last. Genjutsu are the hardest to functionally roleplay, so they're not recommended for use. Ninjutsu: Chakra Infused with the Elements Okay, here's how this is going to work. ONLY ONE OFFENSE-TYPE NINJUTSU PER POST. I don't want each post having a bazillion attacks in them. Also, since each Jutsu is performed by katas, you have to take those few seconds to perform your katas. Larger attacks have a cooldown time, so provide that ((Noting cooldown in OOC is fine.)) Combos: Just don't go extreme, please. Remember what level of ninja you are before you attack. If that doesn't seem like an attack a genin would be capable of, we might have a bit of a problem.

About Using Dice/Random Numbers Should you choose to use the dice or random number function to help your attack along (say, per example, the duration of how long a genjutsu will last, or how many punches out of a certain number will hit), you do have to take into consideration that your opponent must have an equal chance. For dice/random numbers to be legal, your opponent must "mirror" you. However many you roll, your opponent must roll as well. Let me show you an example: > You will roll a certain-numbered dice, to show how many of a certain number hit their target. > Your opponent will then roll the same type of die, and how many your opponent has rolled will be subtracted from the number you rolled, showing how many they dodged on their own. Per example: If you were throwing 64 punches and you generated a random number from 1-64 and got a 38, that's how many you landed on your own. Your opponent generates the same number gap, from 1-64, and gets a 14, which is how many of those 38 that you hit that the opponent dodged. 38 hit minus 14 dodged equals 24 that hit overall. If the number the opponent threw is higher than yours, none of your attacks hit. You are allowed to use chance if you wish, and the person who initiates the attack has to be met with the "mirror" by the opponent. ONLY A PROCTOR CAN DISQUALIFY A CHANCE ROLL. If the proctor thinks that chance isn't needed, he/she will cancel the chance, and make you write out the attack, and your opponent write out the defense. AND IF ANY PROCTOR CATCHES YOU CHEATING THE ROLLS, YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE EXAMS IMMIDIATELY, AND WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NEXT EXAM.

Rules on using Canon Abilities All we're really going to say is that NO ONE should be able to use the Rasengan, Chidori, or Raikiri. And no one at the genin level should be able to use the flash step, or any teleport other than substitution. If you're going to use an ability that isn't basic genin knowledge, one that is specific to a character (say, Konoha Senpuu like Lee for example) we expect you to have LEARNED THE SKILL. These attacks have already been made up, and we expect you to do the work to be able to use them. We want you to be ORIGINAL, so come up with your own attacks. Now, that doesn't apply to those of a designated canon CLAN. If you're part of the Inuzuka Clan, naturally you'd have some attacks that coordinate with Kiba. If you're a part of the Aburame Clan, you'd have some that relate to Shino, and so on and so forth. But, there is such thing as too extreme. Remember, your characters are genin, and not carbon-copies of the characters. I better see that you have trained for long periods of time, gradually building skill while you're roleplaying In Character. Remember, proctors will be deciding the winners of matches, and will constantly be watching you. Their word is final.

Teleportation/Substitution One of the familiar genin skills is the Kawarimi no Jutsu, or the Subsitution Jutsu. In this skill, the user of the jutsu is replaced with a nearby log. Since it is unfair to have a teleportation device used within battles, we're setting a limit to it as of now. Subsitution can only be used ONCE PER BATTLE.In addition, it can only be used in an EVASION. When the substitution jutsu takes place, the user and the log switch places. Meaning it would place you out of harm's way, and likely not in a position to attack immidiately after. NOTE: NO GENIN SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE THE SHUNSHIN (BODY-FLICKER/FLASH STEP) JUTSU. This is reserved for Tokubetsu Jounin or higher rank ninja. Genin do not have the attuned skill level to perform it.
