Kayne trumped through the remaining wet snow that littered the ground. It was cold, it was wet, it was undesirable. In another bound, he leaped over the snow victoriously. "Hah! I win!" His loud cry of victory was soon his downfall as a pillow of snow slid off a branch above him and covered him in the cold white. "... Grrr..."

Bella walked through the wet snow that covered the ground. All around, she could hear the snow melting, and the soft splosh that came from the snow falling to the ground from branches. Her bells around her neck jingled softly as she made her way through the trees with their barren branches. Ever so often, she stopped to shake off her paws from the wet.

A moment passed under the blanket of snow before he decided enough was enough and burst out of the white in a leap and kick, throwing his head back in an agitated growl. Once out of the snow, he puffed his chest in victory; padding along his way with chin raised. It didn't take long before he ran into something and stumbled back. "Oof!" He looked up at what he knocked into. "Oh! Hello, momma!" he chirped.

Bella blinked, seeing the small neon blue runt when he ran into her. She broke into a wide, warm smile and bent down to help the small Minya up. Gently she gave Kayne a small tongue bath over his head. "Hey there, darling. You might want to start watching where you walk."

He purred at the grooming and smiled, "I was strutting after I beat the snow." There was still a chill in the air and he crawled up against her warm fur with a small shiver. "Stupid snow needs to just go away already," he snorted.

Bella chuckled and touched her nose to Kayne's. "Don't worry, the snow is melting. Soon Spring will be here and the sun will warm our fur." She wrapped her tail around him, pulling him close to her warm fur. "Now, what have you been up to?"

"Nothing much," he admitted, taking his place curled up between her paws. "I met another runt but she gave me the slip in the woods and so I had to find my way back. 'Course, I got lost..." He glanced up at her. "What have you been up to? No perverted guys trying to hit on you, right?"

She smiled, nudging him. "Why don't we move out of the cold. There's a small sheltered area near by." Standing up, she gently nudged Kayne to his paws. "I haven't really had much happen to me, and no, no perverted males."

"Good!" he huffed, tilting up his chin in a proud manner as he began to pad off. "I might have to whoop some male butt if I found out someone was hitting on my momma!"

"You're going the wrong way, sweety." She giggled lightly, waiting for Kayne to return back to her before turning and moving towards a small outcropping of boulders. They were stacked together in just the right way to form a very shallow cave.
Walking into the entrance, she looked down at Kayne. "Eventually I'm going to have to find a mate... and a father for you."

"I highly doubt any male is going to want to adopt a son that isn't his." He sat down near the mouth of the cave and looked out, watching the melting snow. "I got lucky when I found you, momma." He glanced back at her with a small frown. "I doubt I'll be so lucky as to find a dad..."

She sat down next to Kayne, pulling him into her paws and nuzzling the top of his head. "My dear, if he cannot treat you as his own, he will never be worth my time. You will always be my son, and always part of my family." She purred a little as she spoke, continuing to nuzzle the runt.

His eyes closed and he purred loudly, butting his head up under her chin. "You're the best momma ever..." Tilting his head back, he groomed under her chin. "I hope you can find a nice guy like that. It would make both our dreams come true."

Bella felt tears spring to her eyes. "I'm not the best, but I certainly will try to be, Kayne.... I certainly will try." She purred a little louder, letting her son groom under her chin, and a single thought crossed through her mind; she was the luckiest Minya anywhere to have been able to adopt such a sweet boy.
Looking down at him, she smiled. "And you, my love, are the first and favorite man in my life."

He teasingly stuck out his tongue with a grin, "Let's keep it that way." Of course he was only kidding. He did want her to find just the right male for his 'momma'. But he didn't seem to mind the thought of him being the only 'man' until then.
He continued to groom her chin and throat, purring all the while. He was content. The first real feeling of belonging he ever had. He'd do whatever it would take to keep it just like this.
