They exist, there are good covers, there are bad covers, covers that beat the original song and covers that should never see the light of day. What's your personal take on covers?
And list your favorite covers and the covers you hate. (try to stick to 3 songs on each list!)
Good covers: 1. Help Save The Youth of America - Rat City Riot (Originaly done by Billy Bragg) 2. Boys on the docks - The Wrecking Dead (Dropkick Murphys) 3. Happy Hour - The Griswalds (The Housemartins)
Bad: 1. Story of my life - Reel Big Fish (Social Distortion) 2. I Got Your Number - Wallride (c**k Sparrer) 3. Ring of Fire - The Regulars (Johnny Cash)

I like Gray Matter's cover of I Am The Walrus, and if I am right, that's originally composed by The Beatles.

Cake does some EXCELLENT covers: "I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor)", "Guitar Man (Bread)", "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town (Kenny Rogers)", "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps (Doris Day)". the only BAD one i can think of is their cover of "War Pigs"... it just wasn't very well done.

The Blood Brothers also cover Queen's Under Pressure, which blows the s**t out of the cover that My Chemical Romance and The Used did.

I enjoyed The Living End's cover of Tainted Love. It's a million times better than Marilyn Manson's version.

The Cure did a cover of Hello, I Love You / The Doors. Now, that's my favorite The Doors song, and The Cure's my favorite band, however, I was a afraid they might have ruined it..
I was pleasently surprised (: .
Even though some covers turn out as rubbish, I've heard so many good ones that I have a positive attitude towards the whole cover-idea.
Franz Ferdinand also made a descent cover of All My Friends / LCD Soundsystem.
Also, I'm a big fan of both The Cribs and Kaiser Chiefs. But Kaiser Chief's cover of Another Number, almost made me vommit xD. Their style just doesn't suit that song at all..
