The shadows had disappeared into the night, and the dark stallion continued his wandering path across the field. Only the clink of his lantern hitting against its own metal rod and the soft whip of his cape made any noise in the gentle evening breeze.

Glowing orange eyes peered out over the lantern's dull light, and he searched about the land for mischief and life. What a dull evening it had been so far.

The night was cool, the breeze was soft, it was dark as--or maybe it wasn't so dark after all. From where she stood, Wyrsa could make out a light bobbing through the field. Odd indeed.

The mare studied the area around the light, and finally determined that there was indeed a creature of some kind there. Hmm...perhaps a bit of fun to lighten her night. A look of mischief crept into her eyes as she made her way slowly, and seemingly unknowingly over towards the light. She always met the most interesting people at night.

Clink, clink, clink, went the light tinkering of the lamp, but Poe didn't care who or what heard him. Nothing seemed to bother him; he was always the one to do the bothering.

His cape gently rustled in the passing wind, and he scrunched up his nose. Was that a whiff of another being he smelled, carried in the cool air? Or was that just his imagination playing tricks on him again?

His ears perked up. Perhaps there was fun to be had this evening!

Wyrsa made her way to within a few horselengths of the stranger with the strange light. So far he seemed oblivious to her...though he was downwind...maybe he was just doubting his nose.

So she would make her presence slightly more obvious. The mare looked, to a viewer, like she had not a care in the world, contentedly cropping the grass in the dark of the night.

Then again...an astute viewer would note her dark coloration, her unusual hide, and the odd yellow eyes that kept a careful watch.

Glancing about the surrounding area, his glowing eyes did a double take. Where those yellow eyes peering back at him?

He grinned, the lantern loosening up in his mouth as he did so. So there was someone else out there, then! Happy with the discovery, he took a few steps closer, cautious, but more curious than anything else. After all, if it tried to attack or harm him, he'd merely bonk it on the head with his lamp. Bonking was so much fun, now that he thought about it. Perhaps he'd bonk them anyway!

Looking up from one mouthful, her yellow gaze met a stranger's orange one. And the light of the lantern he carried. An odd item indeed. Wyrsa's focus was more on the lantern as she considered why the other Soquili might carry it. The most obvious reason was that it held some personal significance. Of course, he (she?) might actually need it on this moonless night...

For the moment, the mare said nothing, merely continued grazing and gazing, keeping her wonderings and conjectures to herself.

Well, this was quite odd.

The mare noticed him noticing her... and said absolutely nothing? Never had he come across a creature that didn't even react to him!

He snorted, tightening the grip around the lantern in his mouth, shaking it a bit to make it clang a little bit louder. He was determined to get a rise, a reaction, an ANYTHING out of this creature!

Now Wyrsa was truly amused. This stranger must be male, with this need for attention. She knew he was there. He knew she knew he was there. And he wanted her to acknowledge that she knew that he knew that she knew he was there.

Well, he could keep rattling that bloody lantern for all she cared. Men. Bloody showoffs. In fact, just to annoy him, she altered her position so that her head was no longer pointed towards him, but her ear was slightly closer and could easily hear the jangling. Every bit of her body, from her eyes to her tail, read "stupid boy."

Well, if this didn't beat all he'd ever seen!

Frowning, he took a step closer. Miffed, he once again contemplated bonking her on the head with the lantern, but thought to give her a second chance. Maybe she was just imagining him standing there. After all, he was ghostly.

Now standing only a few feet away from her turned head, he rattled his lantern even louder than before. If THIS didn't get her attention, he might be forced to take drastic measures!

The amusement now had a competitor in annoyance. Really, was he that desperate for attention? She almost snarled, baring her tiny fangs, when reason reasserted itself. That would give in to him, and this was now a matter of pride for the mare.

She gave no sign that she heard him, though she moved slightly in his direction for fresh grazing. She'd give him opportunities, but no openings. This was no Kalona, Wyrsa was sure of that. And that meant he had to earn any respect from her. So far, he'd won none.

Getting huffy, Poe found that he had no other option.

Swinging back, his lantern sailed high in the air and came rushing down in the direction of the mare, specifically towards her shoulder and side. No sense in aiming at the head... he'd surely never get her attention if he knocked her out!

There was a whup that resounded loudly in the quiet night as the lantern hit Wyrsa in the shoulder.

Okay...now she was really annoyed with this guy. But...she was still in control. She'd made him lose his temper, and now wasn't the time to lose hers.

Wyrsa slowly raised her head and turned to look at him, yellow eyes unblinking in the dark. Her eyes contained no little annoyance, a hint of disdain, and a mere touch of anger. The rest of the emotion was carefully controlled.

He'd gotten what he wanted. She was looking right at him, no longer with any pretense of pretending he wasn't there.

Giddy that he had finally gotten his way and was now the center of her attention, the stallion stood still, grinning from ear to ear. His lantern remained dangling from his mouth, now only slightly swinging from the impact it had just made. Not only had he gotten her attention, but he had also gotten to bonk something! Oh, what a good evening this was most definitely turning out to be already!
PostPosted: Sat Nov 10, 2007 8:23 pm

It was a stallion. Wyrsa could clearly see and scent that now. And he seemed quite pleased having gotten a reaction out of her, even if she hadn't said anything. Fine then.

She looked him over, making it quite obvious she was examining him and finding him wanting. Then, deliberately, she turned away and went back to her grazing. Stupid, stupid boy.

He remained standing there, smug and quite pleased with himself, as he watched from the corner of his eye the mare staring at him, walking about as she examined him. Of course he was an interesting sight to see, and it was about time she noted that!

His brow creased, however, as he watched her turn away from him and return to her eating. What in the world was her problem?! Was she starving or something?

To emphasize his displeasure with her choice of action, he began to rattle his lantern again. It was early in the evening, and he could certainly keep it up all night if he had to!
