Alrighty, time for another yummy recipe thread! But wait... why not use the old cooking thread? Because this one has PICTURES!

Post your favorite recipe in here, and then post a PICTURE! That way, we can see what it's supposed to look like before it's done!

(Ok, so I'm really just waiting for the water to soak in. Sue me.)

HOT DOG JAMBALAYA (a.k.a. "Poor Man's Jumbalaya" or "Lazy Jambalaya")

Ingredients: instant rice, Frank's Red Hot Sauce, 2 hot dogs (thawed), fresh garlic (optional), bam ingredients*

Chop up the two hot dogs (and a piece of garlic) and mix it with 3/4 cups** of rice in a bowl. Add hot sauce and bam ingredients (I used garlic powder and Morton Hot Salt). Pour in slightly more water than you did rice. Add a little bit of salt, keeping in mind that the hot dogs and hot sauce are already contributing a decent amount of salt (may be skipped depending on what bam ingredients you used.)
Microwave on HIGH for about 5 minutes, so that the water comes up between 1/2 and 3/4 of the way to the top of the rice (takes a little trial and error.) Stir.
Bump a few threads on Gaia, like I'm doing now. Then check to see how much water is left. When it's gone, eat.

*"Bam ingredient" refers to any optional ingredient added to a recipe to "kick it up a notch." For this recipe, pretty much anything you'd throw into chili or regular jambalaya would work.
**Based on measurements eyeballed with a normal cup, not any kind of fancy "measuring cup."

Now doesn't this just look delicious?

---|So that's what jambalaya is. I'd always wondered.

The next time I make my vegetable pasta, I'll try and get pics for you all.

---|This thread was keeping me from page-dominating, so...

1 teaspoon baking cocoa
2 heaped teaspoons sugar
about 3-6 tablespoons boiling water
about 3/4 of a cup of milk

Mix the cocoa and the sugar, then add the water and stir well. Add the milk, stir again and re-heat if necessary. Add cream and/or extra sugar to taste.

And that is how you make hot chocolate when you've run out of drinking cocoa and you want something that doesn't taste like it's been watered down.

---|Yes, but I didn't feel like doing that. Besides, I wanted to make a post that was at least sort of on-topic.|---

Yeah, but when I said bump I meant "post in."

---|I knew what you meant. But this still takes less effort.

Now, another recipe (sort of):

Tomato, Basil and Garlic Pasta Sauce

1 tin peeled tomatoes
1 sachet tomato paste
About a teaspoon each of garlic, chilli, basil, sage and parsley
Salt to taste

Drain the tomatoes and blend them until you have a puree, then add the tomato paste, garlic and chilli. Heat slowly and add basil, sage and parsley. More of any of the spices (as well as salt) can be added to taste.

I usually make this sauce to go with vegetable pasta, but it works fine with plain pasta too. The spices are random ones that I picked out of our pantry (except for the basil, chilli and garlic, which I put in intentionally); you can use any spices you like, really, as long as they work together.
