As soon as the sky had lost the brilliant shades of blues and took on a more orange approach, Qadir had left his house in a slight bit of a hurry, his hand wrapped around a smaller and paler (though not pale) hand, which belonged to a very disgruntled black haired child. Orpheus was not thrilled with this sudden change of plans. Each night had found him digging through Qadir's artifacts and trinkets, breaking a few here and stealing a few into his room there. They were interesting!

But no. Qadir had caught him before he'd woken up and to his dismay those dark eyes with puddles of blood rimming the bottoms opened to find the golden vampire hovering over him. For a moment there was only confusion, but then there had been a yelp and a very irritated, "Don't watch me while I sleep old man!"

Now they were almost at their destination, the home of a certain woman with black curly hair and a sweet disposition that Qadir only hoped could help him with such a child. A previous stop at her flower shop had yielded nothing but the sweet mother and her admittance that she'd sent Crystal home for the night.

"Where are we going? You're hurting my hand and my clothes are getting dirty," he said with the air of irritable disinterest, though he didn't sound nearly so haughty as a certain Egyptian boy. Qadir didn't answer. Instead he hurried a bit faster at the sight of Crystal's home, knocking on the door and shifting his weight from foot to foot nervously.

"Just a moment!" came a perplexed reply to the knock, the voice seeming to carry from the left side of the house.

Crystal wasn't expecting anyone, and had been in her back room preparing to paint when the knock came. Quickly dashing out of the room and locking it behind herself, she lifted her cerulean skirted gown and padded down the hallway before opening the door with a slightly confused expression. The look melted almost immediately at the sight of the vampire, replaced with a more joyous and warm smile. Steely eyes shifted down to the charge that he gripped so tightly, slender brows arching in surprise as she stepped back, holding the door open, "Qadir! Come in, please!"

She was barefoot, but thankful she hadn't changed out of her dress; she imagined she'd be horrified to have had the man over in her men's over-alls while she painted. Thank goodness for good timing! Her delicate features were inviting but curious, a gentle smile on her face for the boy should he choose to look at her. "To what do I owe this distinct pleasure?"

With a push, Qadir sent the boy into the house before him, giving a slight nodding bow to Crystal as he stepped past her and watched as the boy began a slow self tour around the house. The vampire opened his mouth as it to say something, likely a reprimand, but the boy wasn't going to do any harm to the home and he'd rather have talked to Crystal without the boy's gaze upon him.

"I'm sorry to bother you like this Crystal, but I didn't know who else to turn to, especially in this town." Well, not like it mattered the town obviously, the only person even remotely close to Qadir was his employer, and he couldn't possibly entertain the idea of handing the boy over to such a horrid man.

Gold eyes slipped back to watch the boy as he took a seat upon the couch and pulled out a small notebook he'd taken to carrying around and scribbled something within the white pages before closing it and putting it away. "Crystal. He...he came from a scented gel cup," Qadir confessed, feeling completely unnerved.

Crystal listened intently, her face remaining gentle even though Qadir seemed to be a little flustered. At his last words, her eyebrows lifted again, surprise on her face albeit without doubt. "A scented..." She broke off, startled. "Like Ment? And Tango?" Of course, she had no idea of the vampire had met her good friend May or her charge, or if he'd met the gender-confused Ment, but that wasn't exactly in the forefront of her mind. Her memory played the splintering of wood as that horrible child on a ball was born from a dark scent, tearing things apart. This one seemed about as mild as Tango.

She reached out and took Qadir's good hand, stating, "You are never a bother, my dear." Glancing over towards the boy with curiosity, she mused, "It would seem that you have a son to take care of." Her mind pulled forth images of the children she'd met that were unique like this; each of their Guardians had served as a parent. Crystal didnt' think this would be any different.

Turning her soft gaze back to the man, she smiled gently. "Certainly someone with your worldly experience would have much to share with such an amazing child?" She sincerely did not see the problem, as the child seemed to be quiet and not near as destructive as that cackling clown. Children were a blessing, so she had always believed. "What's his name?"

"A child? Mine?" Qadir asked hesitantly, confused and nervous about the fact that Crystal seemed to know what was going on and yet he was so very left in the dark. It wasn't fair, but at the same time he couldn't keep expecting that he knew everything in the world. Little Orpheus had seemingly taken over that job. Obnoxious know-it-all.

"My name's Orpheus," the boy called from the room, his keen hearing just as good as Qadir's and thus more than able to hear and understand their conversation. "You may not give me a nickname either." Orpheus' words held the weight of finality to them. No one would butcher his beloved name.

Qadir paled slightly at the boy's attitude, his eyes flickering between the woman and the boy. "I'm so sorry Crystal," he said in a whispered tone. "He named himself. Read some Greek mythology and plucked it right out of the pages and told me it was his name. I guess it fits him though."

It took quite a bit of control for the woman not to burst into laughter as an ancient vampire stood before her, looking for all the world as though he was just told the world was flat. She lifted his hand and pressed a comforting kiss to it before releasing him, turning as the boy talked. This time, she did laugh, giving Qadir a playful wave of her hand before walking towards the couch.

Leaning against the arm of it, she tilted her head and held out her hand to the boy. "Orpheus, is it? Very nice to meet you. I'm Crystal, and I do not mind if you choose to give me a nickname." Her smile was kind if not a bit charming as she admired the youth. He looked quite like Qadir, actually. "Would that be Orpheus, the Father of Songs? A good, strong name suits a grounded young man." She wouldn't bother him if he preferred she did not - he was, in all technicalities, a noble - but she thought it would at least be proper to introduce herself, in her own home.

Orpheus watched the woman come over to him with a lofted brow before he scribbled one last thing within his notebook and closed it, tucking it back into the back pocket of his pristine pants. "I'm sure it's a pleasure to meet me miss Crystal," he said with a nod of his head before slipping off the couch and returning to his inspection of this part of her home. He wasn't interested if Qadir and Crystal had stopped talking, listening to their conversation had been the only reason he'd stopped wandering for the moment.

The older vampire was at a loss for words, his mouth hanging open quite unsightly and his eyes wide. The boy's vanity was likely to get both of them shot some how.

"Do you have anything to drink here Crystal? I'm quite thirsty. Water would be nice, thank you."

Crystal chuckled softly, moving towards her kitchen before catching sight of Qadir and his gaping maw. Biting her lip to keep from laughing again, she walked to him and gently used her forefinger to shut his jaw, giving him a playful wink. "He's got your looks, a sharp mind, manners of a noble and it seems he can speak and write well enough to put most people to shame. Truly, you should count yourself lucky, Qadir. Would you like a drink as well?" With another wide grin, she returned to her kitchen, removing two pristine glasses and filling them with fine water; she kept clean water in her home for the flowers, and she did not mind sharing it with Orpheus and his father.

She returned to the boy, offering one of the glasses with a gentle, "If you please, Orpheus." She would return to Qadir to comfort the poor man while the boy wandered. There wasn't anything breakable or even remotely expensive in her home, as such things were not the likes of that which she could afford. The most priceless items she owned were in that locked room or in the bosom of her gown.

Qadir refused the glass offered to him, completely frigid in his stance in the middle of her hallway. He didn't want a kid. He certainly didn't want a kid with the personality of a little Irene either. Lucky was having a sweethearted little girl that would follow him everywhere and that he could dote upon with numerous gifts. Orpheus was beginning to look like more of a curse. Finally Qadir's good luck had run out.

Reaching out he grabbed for Crystal's hand after Orpheus had politely thanked her for the water. "Crystal. I don't know how, but he's a vampire too. I mean, when it, he, was just a cup I stuck my finger in it, but I don't see how that would make any difference!"

With a gently pull Qadir tried to find somewhere where his voice couldn't be heard by the boy and nervous tone dropped to less than a whisper. "I don't think I can do this. I don't think I can handle another one," he said, though his eyes were sadder than his words.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2007 8:20 pm

The young woman was surprised at Qadir's reaction, looking upon his sad face with confused grey eyes. Another one? Something clicked in Crystal's head, vaguely hearing the vampire's voice talking about things in his past that were still too painful. She suddenly felt naive and foolish for not realizing he may have had a family at one point, or that perhaps, he still did. Would Orpheus being a vampire mean he'd always be this way? For some reason, she had simply assumed the boy was a vampire, and was not the least bit surprised to hear it confirmed.

Delicate hands reached out to cup Qadir's face, making sure he was looking at her and really hearing her as she lowered her voice to match his. "Qadir," she rolled his name adoringly, "I know you can do this. I believe that things happen for a reason, both good and bad. Please, have faith in yourself, and this boy's future. You are all he has in this world." What could the man do, take Orpheus back to wherever Qadir got him from? The boy was a living, breathing creature, and whether or not he was a vampire was moot; he was still a child, for goodness sake!

"I will help you, if you will let me. You are not alone, Qadir, you're never alone so long as I am able to be here. I will do my best to help you, but please, do not give up on him." She lowered her hands, her eyes stern in her gentle face. Crystal meant well, both in her words and her intention.

Vampire blinked at her words before signing and turning his head to look at the boy who'd decided to come and stand next to the two of them. A groan. One minute the boy wanted nothing to do with the older man, the next he insisted upon standing right next to him and listen in on a private conversation. It wasn't that big a deal though, Qadir hadn't thought at all about abandonig the boy, but, how was he supposed to handle it since he was going to keep him?

"I don't think he'd get rid of me miss Crystal. This man keeps everything, did you notice? In his house there's almost no room for me." A pretend sniff. Little liar! There was more than enough room for the boy in the large mansion and Qadir had even gone through all the trouble of figuring out the second biggest bedroom in the home to clean out and give to Orpheus, at the boy's request of course.

"I have noticed, and it's quite a feat, if I do say so myself." She smiled at Orpheus, watching Qadir out of the corner of her eye. Crystal thought that the vampire would do much better if he'd treat the boy like a human - or a vampire - rather than a lost pup. "We practically had dinner sitting in the hands of one of the statues. Quite remarkable." Of course, she was going a little far, but she rather enjoyed poking a little fun at Qadir. Really, he had to lighten up! Orpheus was a child, he needed to act like one!

That might be easier said than done around a man who was...well, old. She really didn't know his age for certain, but it didn't matter, as she figured he found the ability for patience somewhere down the line. He put up with her, didn't he? The thought made her grin, unable to help herself as she watched Qadir's nearly forlorn expression. He truly was at a loss, wasn't he? Crystal was no mother, but she had the instincts, and she certainly did not mind paying the charming boy some attention anymore than she did his father.

"Well. If you ever get pushed out, you are free to visit me, seeing as you know where I live." It was an invitation out of courtsey and teasing, as she truly didn't expect the boy to want to leave Qadir, least of all for her significantly smaller and far more sparse home. Part of her could feel the maternal response to having a child near by, and it was close to alarming how at ease she was with the vampire suddenly having a son no older than her cousin Edward.

Orpheus shook his head at the woman's offer of coming to her home. Qadir was, from what the boy had witnessed, a very warm care-giver and well suited to taking care of him, that's why this whole trip was such a surprise. So what if the man had once had a child? What was so big and important about that that it would freak the older one out so much?

"Despite your well-wished attempts, I'm sure Qadir would not kick me from his home. Also, this one is not big enough," he said simply, in no terms trying to be insulting to the woman or her home, but speaking truthfully all the same. Not even a week old and he was already too vain to accept anything less than his own standards.

One would think the boy was Amahte's brother the way his cold eyes surveyed things, though unlike Amahte, Orpheus didn't have the air of belief that he was in ownership of everything around him, the boy, instead, watched to see what was worthy to be made his.

Qadir continued to remain speechless and tight-lipped. He was treating the boy quite well, in his opinion, it was the boy that was making Qadir out to be an unfit father, though considering the past that wasn't far from the truth.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:57 pm

"I am sure," she agreed with the boy, looking over to Qadir once more. Her smile faded a little and she reached out to touch his arm, trying to wipe that look from his face. He hadn't smiled once since he had come with the boy, and she certainly didn't want him not to smile again simply because he had a son. Was it truly so bad? To him, she asked quietly, "One of those things from the past?" It wasn't a very well articulated question, but she hoped he'd get her point. Crystal wasn't trying to pry, just...understand.

The woman slipped her hand back into Qadir's, unconsciously trying to give him strength of presence and reassurance with her touch. She felt somewhat at a loss, unable to see that carefree man from just a few nights before. She did not mind Orpheus' vanity or way of speaking to her, for quite frankly, she was more used to that than the older vampire's kindness. Knowing well how much Qadir disliked the nobility and their mannerisms, she found herself a little horrified that the child might very well be everything he disdained about the high class.

Crystal looked between the two, curiosity dominating her features with Orpheus and a gentle something else, something softer with Qadir.

Qadir had reached his limit, and at her words and soft attentions he gave a bit of a start before blinking and regaining that regal Qadir smile and attitude. He couldn't sit there like a statue any longer, but he couldn't sit there and talk about the topic with the woman either. No matter how good a friend she was trying to be to him, the vampire had his guarded secrets. "As usual Crystal, my dear, you've been nothing less than a complete savor for me, but I'm afraid Orpheus and I have things we must attend to tonight and I've let myself lose track of time." Qadir reached out to take Orpheus by the hand, looking very much like a doting father keeping close to beloved son. Yes, that twinkle was in Qadir's amber eyes and the smile was upon his face; he was over what bit of panic he'd slipped through.

"Truly though, we must get going. I'm so sorry to have intruded upon your presence as we have. I'm sure I speak for both of us," Orpheus shot his father a dark look, "when I say thank you for all your help." Cold eyes gave sweeping circular roll before he shrugged. He wasn't all that ungrateful for the water afterall.

Orpheus sucked upon the inside of his cheek as he willingly left the house, more excited about going back to his own home of expanse and leaving behind the more modest dwelling of the flower girl. Without so much as a good bye he slipped past the door with Qadir in tow and the two of them set off before the boy piped up with, "I forgot my journal," and with hurried steps he strove back to Crystal's door and knocked, waiting for her to open it.

Dirty liar. He'd not forgotten the notebook that was tucked and prized so securely within his pockets, but at sight of the flower girl his lips twisted into the closest thing of a smile he'd mustered so far, though no one ever call it that. "Likely he's nervous because I remind him of his killed son miss, so don't take any offence to him," and that was the last he said, for with childlike speed he dashed off into the darkness to join Qadir.
