Is anyone else here a fan of Shotaro Ishinomori's Skull Man? I'd describe Skull Man as a mix of Batman, Masked Rider, and Spawn. There is very little information about the series on the internet, and I've yet to find any other fans. I have the first four volumes, and I plan to collect them all. I'm afriad that I'm the only fan though...

Only thing I've ever seen was a drawing someone made. It was a site full of Kamen Rider sketches. It was just compairing how Skull Man's costume was remade in Kamen Rider 1.

Yah, the later issues have scenes that pay homage to Kamen Rider & other Ishinomori heroes in suttle ways. My fav being the cop turned into a Shin Kamen Rider-like mutant that eventually gets a motorcycle that looks ALOT like Cyclone. Heh have a sudden urge to read them all again...

Kamen Rider is actually a sort of remake of Skull Man. Ishinomori started with Skull Man, but when he submited his ideas, they made him change them so drastically that he ended up with Kamen Rider.

Yah, I know. That's why it was so cool to see the references. Also when Skull Man is repairing his ally in the final chapter....wait, nevermind. Don't wanna spoil it for ya.
BTW ever read the Cyborg 009 manga? Instead of a remake, Tokyopop released the original manga translated. It's not as emotional as the anime(if that's good or bad it depends on your taste) though the action is alot more straight forward. For example when the 0010 twins were defeated in the anime, 0011 didn't show til the next morning but in the manga 0011 showed before the twins corpses got cold.

I've looked at the Cyborg 009 manga a little, and I've considered buying the first graphic novel. The art really doesn't do it for me though. That's my biggest complaint, and my reason for not buying it. Is it worth my money?

Well the original manga was made in the 60s or 70s, how advanced did you want the artwork to be? sweatdrop I'm a big fan of Cyborg 009 so it does it for me. The cyborgs are slightly different then in the anime since it was based in an earlier era. Like how G.B.(006 or 7, I forget) wasn't a highly skilled actor when he was kidnapped, he was a wandering out of work drunk. The chinese chef was an unsuccessful peasant farmer & he was kidnapped just when he was about to hang himself. 003's abduction was just funny when her brother was trying to chase after her kidnappers.
