Materials:
-Fabric paint of your choice in color
-A small sponge
-Manila folders
-A Screen print Design Printed from the computer
-Carbon Paper
-A tote bag or other Fabric
-An Exacto Knife or Paring knife
-Newspaper or Cardboard
-Pins
-Tape

Instructions

1.You take the image or design you want to screen print and enlarge the image to be the perfect size for what you are printing on, mirror the image [if you do not you will print the image backwards], and print it out on plain white paper.

2. Take a piece of carbon paper and tape it to the back of your design,
the black part should not be facing the back of your design other wise you will trace your design onto the back of your design,
taping the tops together would be best so you can easily remove it to use it again, and take your peice of manila folder and tape your design face up and carbon paper firmly to the manila folder so it does not move. [It should be design, carbon paper, and manila folder]

3. Trace over the Lines of your design firmly with a pen so the carbon paper makes a mark on the manila folder. If you have more then one color in the design you will need to make more then one stencil.

4. Take the carbon paper and original design off of the manila folder. Very Carefully take a exacto knife or small paring knife and cut out the design were you want the color. [be careful, the best thing to do is to cut it out in a scrap piece of cardboard or old newspaper so you don't ruin furniture.] Make sure all lines are even and smooth, any choppiness will show up.

5. Take your tote bag or piece of material and lay the cut out design down, Firmly tape and pin down the design so it does not move and so it is very tight to the material so the paint does not leak places that you do not want it, try to pin as close to the design as possible but not so close that it ruins it.

6. Take your Fabric paint and a a piece of sponge and sponge the paint inside were you want the design to be. Be very sure that you get it even and thick on your design.

7. Carefully remove every pin and all the tape and remove your design. If you accidentally nudge it it may smear the paint.

8. Your design should come out perfectly!!! You should try it out on a test piece of fabric with something small so you get used to it, also try not to do something quite so intricate until you have done more then one thing or you are very good at using a paring knife.

Viola your bag is done, just add some Nice lace and some ruffles and it looks like a perfect Lolita bag =D

If you use my tutorial and you find any flaws or you have any comments please post here, also if you have done this before and you have any comments add them too.

I would love to see the finished products!!

If you use this in something else PLEASE tell me. I would like to see it so I can inform others about it if it is on a website.[I'm not going to be crazy and say "OMG CREDIT MEEEE", pshh I didn't make up screen printing =P

[sorry if you already have one, someone asked me about my screen printing and since she couldn't do it the way I did, I came up with this tutorial.]

I would just like to point out one thing: what you just gave a tutorial on is stenciling, not screen printing.

Screen printing is done with a silk canvas, special chemicals, certain paints, squeegees, ect. Its a lot more complicated.

This is a good tutorial nonetheless! Though it could use some pictures! (pictures make everything better, of course, hahaha.)

We did something very close to that in school for graphic arts except we had to hold down the board ourselves -_-;;

I would add pictures but the thing is that some one Pmed me about a screen print I did in school and I felt really bad saying that you couldn't really easily do it at home without buying a ton of supplies. So I came up with this tutorial.

So it is more of a stencil tutorial made to be easy screen printing for home. [Although you are right screen printing is used with actual screens and screen paint and sponge squeegee things and yeah, much more complecated, =P] so I figured it was like screen printing the easy way without having to go through the entire process of making the screen, cutting out the shape, and then adhering the green jelloy stuff to the screen all before you can even start.

So i should probably re-name it to Stencil Screen Printing, but that really isn't proper. =/ So I don't know what to rename it, plus if I named it stenciling people might think that I am teaching you how to stencil on a wall ^^;;

Rename it. It's just stenciling. Say its, like, "Stenciling on skirts and fabrics." rolleyes
