Long ago I created a base-7 number system as a precursor to a conlang... but I never got around to making the conlang. Now that I've found this forum, perhaps I'll actually get around to it! Of course, back so long ago... I wouldn't have imagined that other people would also be interested in this type of stuff.
Anyway, I'm no longer interested in writing the story that this numbering system was supposed to be for, but I'd love some feedback on how easy or difficult it is to understand the numbers. Really, the numbers look like our current set... because the story was to have something to do with an alien species seeding life on our planet. The alien numerals were the original inspiration for Arabic ones (before the zero was added, of course.)

Since I don't have a font for the numbers, I've made a webpage with some image files for counting, adding and multiplication. I haven't added the multi-digit multiplication yet... and it could also use some simple addition problems as further explanation.
If anyone takes a look, please let me know what you think. mrgreen

Awesome! biggrin
It's kind of funny, you know? Every language you can think of...it's always a 10-based number system. Well, why? Of course! It's our fingers! biggrin Ever since time started, people have used their fingers to count, and it eventually became more complex over time.
Now, a 7-based number system? Does that mean the people only have seven fingers? I mean...why is it in groups of seven? There has to be a reason... eek

Very spiffy. Me likey. 3nodding I may adopt it into my code... I need a better number system. ninja @MiasmaMoon--well, why is 7 so lucky and 13 so unlucky?--places importance on them. (rhetorical smile ) BTW, you can count other bases on your fingers xd Counting explanation...
