Oi... what a day, Sine thought as she turned the key in the lock and opened her front door. Really, shopping was not supposed to be a stressful experience! At least the last store she'd visited had been calm and quiet. Kicking the door shut, the young woman gave a sigh and dropped most of her bags where she stood. Except for the small bag containing a small oil filled glass cup and burner. Carefully taking the fragile piece from the bag, she held it in one hand and thought about the best place to put it. Stuck for inspiration, she placed it on the coffee table and smiled as a whiff of the sweet, faintly salty scent reached her nose.

"I'll wait a bit to light it," she murmured to herself. It would be a shame to light such a pretty thing too soon. From what she'd seen of the shop when she'd bought the burner, they only carried just one of any scent. Why waste what she wouldn't be able to replace after all? Smiling happily, Sine scooped up the rest of her bags and wandered into the bedroom to begin putting away her latest bits of clothing.

Wiping a hand across her forehead, Sine tossed her dustrag to the ground and grinned. Now her home was completely clean. Wandering into the bathroom to wash the grime from her hands, she wondered where she should put her oil burner. The kitchen was right out. As were the bathrooms. Which left her bedroom, the guest room or the living room. She walked through each, considering every pro and con.

After an hour of pondering, Sine finally decided on the living room. Taking up the oil burner, she eyed a small decorative side table near the bookcase. Re-arranging a few small decorative peices, she placed the burner on the table near a bamboo filled vase and stood back to examine the effect. Perfect!

"Well, after all that work, I think it's time to light you, my friend. And to take a bath," she muttered to herself as she struck a match and placed it to the candle wick.Inhaling the scent as the oil began to warm, Sine smiled and gathering up her cleanign supplies, went to put them away before hopping into the bath. She'd let the oil burner for a bit to allow the scent to spread.

Closing the door with far ore gntleness than she'd shown when she'd dashed out earlier, Sine smiled to herself and fanned herself with papers she'd had to run back to work to retrieve. Heaven help her if the Smithinbroke account had been lost due to sheer carelessness. settig the small sheaf of papers atop the coffee table, Sine allowed her eyes to close for a moment, willing her still beating heart to relax. When she opened them again, she gave a most undignified squeak and jumped backwards, startled to find a small, mohawked girl staring solemnly back at her.

"W...where did you come from?" she gasped out. The child, for her part, merely gave a wistful little smile and walked right past, now staring curiously at the knob on the front door. Sine watched her, mouth agape. She was certain sure she'd locked the door on her way out. In fact, she'd needed the key to get back in just now! So how had this mite of a girl gotten in?

Happening to glance at the floor, Sine saw small, oily footprints showing the way the girl had come. Ignoring the child for the moment, Sine followed the tracks into the living room. Much to her surprise, she saw the oil burner and candle broken on the ground, wax and dribblets of oil staining the carpet. But, the footprints seemed to originate from that spot.

"Great patron god of Underpants," Sine muttered to herself, staring at the broken burner and the footprints and then to the doorway where the child now stood still silently watching. The thought that this girl had coem from the oil burner was slowly beginning to percolate through Sine's brain. But no, that couldn't be. She simply had to be some orphan or somethign who'd found a way in.

"Well, my dear," Sine began, taking note of how the child smiled when she talked. "Since you don't seem intent of robbing me blind, I can perhaps let you stay a bit. What's your name and how did you get in here?"

The child, smiling widely at this point, simply pointed to the broken burner, then to herself and uttered a single word. "Tevadi."
