Escaflowne_11 I guess I know the tones then! I already know who I like, so I think I am going to go will a full Ampeq stack! Im gonna go get myself a 4x10 and a 15 with an ampeq head! Is there more I should know about this gear before I buy, or is it straight forward. (I am leaning on the idea that I should know more razz ) Hmmmmm, what head are you looking at? There's the SVT II, the SVT III, the SVT IV, the SVT 450, the SVT CL, the SVT VR, or if you want to go a bit cheaper, there are is the B series, which are solid-state rather than tube. It all depends on how much you wanna spend, and what kind of tone you're looking for.

Im hoping to aim for the 2.5k range as a max, but I can reach a bit further for a great tone.

Do you need an extended bass response, or are do you mainly need highs and mids? How much power do you want and how big are the venues you play?

8x10 is about the best you can do with a single stack, and the ampg gear is some of the best tried and true, they were the first to make bass only amps. I'm not sure about the heads, because a lot of others make good options too, if you're looking for a nice clean standard bass tone ampg, I think they have a few options with them over all i'm not sure I haven't looked at ampg that much out of price range by a lot, I would go for the stack at least, 80 in of speaker area is a good thing.

I like to have a good solid tone with my bass that allows a steady balance of mids highs and lows. If I want to go punk I can, If I want to play a jazz balled, I can. My venues usually vary from about 10-1000 people. I want to anticipate for large venues though. That would be wisest, because I am investing in shows of larger size.

My venues usually vary from about 10-1000 people. I want to anticipate for large venues though. That would be wisest, because I am investing in shows of larger size. Then I'd recommend: HeadThe SVT-3PRO head ($900), tube preamp, 450w@4 ohms (Kinda hard to explain if you don't know, in amps, your head can put out different wattage at different impedances, the impedance varies usually with the number of cabs/speakers, cabs usually come in either 8 ohm or 4 ohm, two 8 ohm cabs will add up to a 4 ohm load on the head, and two 4 ohm cabs will add up to a 2 ohm load on the head, maybe that explains things.) CabsAn SVT-410E 4x10 cab ($600) and an SVT-115E ($400) cab, they're both 8 ohms so you'll hit the heads 4 ohm max load. Plenty of volume, and for gigs any bigger than what it can handle, you will most likely have PA support anyways. The 15" will handle your lows mostly and the 4x10"s will handle your mids and highs with the horn's support. The main problem I see with everyone getting the 8x10 cab is that they're sacrificing bottom end for the sake of having a huge cab. Oh, and I recommend get a tow dolly for your rig, it'll weigh in excess of 200 lb. all together. And you're going to need a rack case for the head (about $150 for a good one), do yourself a favor and get a 4-space rack, and put a rackmount tuner of some brand ($180-$80) (Korg, Fender, or even Behringer makes them) and a Furman power conditioner ($55) to power all your stuff. Oooooh, and besides any effects you may have, I recommend the BBE Sonicstomp Sonic Maximizer pedal ($100), it really brings out the voice of you bass and gets rid of a lot of unwanted background noise. All together, this'll run you about $2400. This all assuming you get everything new. You can always shop around eBay for deals or scout out music stores and wait for clearance days and used gear. Hope this helped a bit.

That sounds like the price range I was hoping for, minus some of the extras. I'm not gonna need to spend 150 bucks for a tuner, and that sonic maximizer might not be needed for me. I like the idea of the power conditioner though. I am going to be hunting for deals for a while, but I don't plan on buying it for a while. At least till I get a job so I can put money back into my savings for a while. I would be screwing myself unless I started my retirement plans and stuff extra early...
