Journal Entry: 1

______Dearest Journal,

I've still been struggling with my writer's block. I used to be able to weave beautiful poems together, or so I was told. But it seems as of lately I don't have that passion for writing anymore... I'm not sure what's changed. I used to have so many fascinating ideas, and I could make the cleverest of stories for the children at school... But it seems now I'm stuck with the mundane task of actually reading out of pre-made stories. (Like Goldylocks and the Three Bears- yuck! Children need more intelligent stories!) So... Yeah. I'll get back to you on that when everything's gotten better.

Oh, yeah! I went shopping today! That's always fun. I got some fab-u-LOUS clothes! (Though that's not out of the norm, haha) Let's see... I got that ultra-mega designer's ribbon skirt from Stella's Stylish Store, those cinderella-esque glass slippers from Sheena's Shoe Shoppers, and a whole myriad of other clothes. Ah, I'm so glad I'm not always worried about my budget, otherwise I'd have grey hairs right now. The day I get those is the day I DIE. NO LIES. Today was pretty much wonderful~ Except... Today I had to go to the bathroom really bad. (I didn't think to go before I left, even though I always tell my students to, oops!)

So, when I was on my way home, I just couldn't hold it in. It was almost impossible. So, I stopped by this quaint little shop to use their bathroom. The shopowner, named Olivia, was nice enough to let me use it. The shop smelled interesting; it was like a whole bunch of scents were partying together. I had a few mishaps on the way to the bathroom, but I got there! I ended up buying a new scent, which I'm about to light after I put my new clothes up and change! I'm kind of excited, I've never had a scent oil before. Hmm... I think I've written down everything that was on my mind.

P.S. ~ I'll let you know how the writer's block goes and how nice (or horrible) the scent smells!

P.P.S.S. ~ I also promise to write in you more! Sorry for neglecting you...

Marina had finally arrived at her mess of an apartment that she called "home". She promptly ripped her feet out of her painful (but ohhhh so stylish~) shoes and threw them across her tiny livingroom. As Marina walked towards her bedroom, she placed the newly acquired oil onto a table as she passed by. Marina then put her expensive clothes up, or atleast what was left of them. After, she slipped into something a little more comfortable. (Which was just a robe and nothing else)

When she went to go light her oil, though, she found that the oil was not in the place she left it. It was now on her windowsill, which faced a pond near her apartment. The children in the area had a story that a mermaid once lived in the pond, but she turned into bubbles when people stopped appreciating her melodies. Everyone knew that they weren't real~ They were just tales for children to believe in. Marina shook herself out of thought and approached the oil. She found that there was also a box of matches next to the burner, and the fish was in a cup of water on the counter.

"Uhm... Okay. I think I remember putting all of this stuff here!" Marina knew that she had not done any of said things, but she felt comfort in telling herself these things. Marina gingerly picked up the box of matches and struck one. The blaze that resulted was so brilliant and bright, and danced around on the tip of the match as whimsically as the waves roll freely on an ocean shore. As she lit the burner and the scent began to spread, it felt as if a blanket of seafoam enveloped her and pulled her into an underwater dominion. The scent's wafts made a tail-like formation, but Marina didn't pay much mind to it. It truly lived up to its name; she literally felt as if she had a personal ocean in her apartment.

As she stood over the oil and stared into the 'mermaid' pond vacantly, Marina felt the sudden urge to put pen on paper. Words and ideas flowed into her mind like a river, and it felt as if her mind was going to drown in them. The result was a poem:

    Aesthetically pleasing though it is
There is much more beneath the blue abyss
Secret filled waves tumble to the shore
Listen closely to the soft, echoing roar

Lingering below the surface are questions,
    Mysteries about the multitudes.
    Searching for answers they came
But always unanswered they will remain

But what exactly did it mean? She wrote it, but she didn't even know what it meant herself. What could the 'mystery' be referring to? She had written a poem that was an enigma even to herself. Marina abruptly came cascading down into reality when she realized that the oil was almost gone, it was about 1/4th full. "I've... Got to go get more of this." The scent was like a miracle-worker: It got rid of her writer's block, and the fragrance was beautiful to boot.

Marina reached for the oil, but as she did, she heard a familiar noise...

Psst... Psst...

"Who's there?!" Marina turned her head around and pushed her hands forward abruptly, knocking the burner and oil out of the window. Apparently, her push forward was great enough to make the oil fall into the pond, which was a few feet away. She never knew she was that strong. When the oil broke the surface of glossy and serene water, it didn't make the noise she had expected. She thought it would sound like a nasty splash, but it made an ethereal breeze-like noise. "No, no!" Marina quickly threw some slippers on and ran out her door. If she would have waited a second more, she would have noticed a strange glowing in the pond...

Sprinting, no, more like gliding, down the front stairs, Marina made her way around the front of her apartment complex. She skillfully weaved herself through dirt paths and overgrown bushes, and eventually reached her destination. Her new snow-colored slippers were dirtied in the process, unfortunately. In the pond, however, was a surprise she had not been expecting...

A petite girl was laying in the crystal-clear waters, whom had flowing blue hair that was tipped with seafoam. Her ears and hands were unlike that of a normal child, as well; they were webbed, and had a vague opalescent luster to them. Her strangest feature stood out heavily: a shiny fish tail. From the waist down, the diminutive girl was covered in scales and luminous sparkles. Rather than feet, she had flowing, translucent fins. Could she have been... The mermaid of legend? But... Something was... off. The mermaid in the legend was said to be unflinchingly kind, warm, and congenial to everyone, and she had the most beautiful voice. This mermaid seemed a bit... frightened. She was clasping a giant clam towards herself, with a nervous expression plastered onto her creamy-smooth face. Marina broke herself from thought, and brought herself to asking the tiny mermaid some questions.

    "Who're you?"

"I... I'm not... Exactly sure."
"Not sure? Aren't you the mermaid of legend who sang beautiful songs?"
"I... Don't know... I'm sorry."
"Well, why don't you try singing for me? Then I can help you figure out exactly who you are!"
"Okay. I'll, uhh, try!"

Singing ensued. Her song was so peaceful, and so soothing. When the mermaid inhaled to catch her breath, it sounded like rain drops pattering on treetops. When she sang, it sounded like waves gracefully crashing onto the shore. But, as she carried out her melody, her voice gave out. The last notes she sang were like nails on a chalkboard, and it quickly turned into discordant noises. Marina covered her ears and flinched, not realizing the mermaid's feelings.

"O-oh... I'm, uhm, sorry... Honestly. I guess I'm not that mermaid."
"I guess not. Aren't mermaids supposed to sing, like, pretty?"

The words stung the mermaid's heart like a needle as she pulled her clam close to herself. If she was not the mermaid in the stories, who was she? And how did she get there? Marina again pulled herself out of thought, and remembered why she had come to the pond in the first place. She once again questioned the young mermaid, whose feelings she had unintentionally hurt.

"Have you seen, an, uhm, oil burner around here?"

"Oil... Burner? What's that?"
"It's a, uhm, well... I don't know how to describe it. It's a thin silver stand with a glass bowl inside of it, and a candle on the bottom. It had some oil that smelled like the ocean in it, actually."

The mermaid looked around herself in the pond, and shook her head. A breeze blew in the direction of Marina, from the direction that the mermaid was in. It was faint, but it smelled like the ocean. Putting two and two together, she concluded that the oil she had purchased was not ordinary. Marina then decided to bring the girl inside, even if she did not know her. She changed her tone from something that you'd interrogate with, to something you'd use in a more nurturing manner.

"Well, I think you need to come inside~! We can get you all dressed up."

"Uh... Well, I... I guess that'd be nice."

The girl seemed hesitant towards Marina, but that was to be expected. There was no bond between them, and Marina had been less than nice to the poor mergirl. She would have to earn her trust, even if it would be hard. Marina struggled to pick up the mergirl, but as she tried, she whiffed a strong waft of ocean breeze emanating from her. Once again, she had an intense feeling of inspiration to write. As thoughts rushed through her head, she finally understood the meaning of her poem: mermaids. Marina gingerly dragged the mermaid towards her apartment, and struggled to carry her up stairs.

When they were finally inside her apartment, Marina gathered a fine silk sheet she used to have and cut it into a stylish top for the nude mermaid girl. As she did so, the mermaid looked around the room inquisitively, staring at all the wonderments Marina's room contained. The girl was very quiet, or perhaps it was just that she was extremely shy. A familiar noise droned...

______Dearest Journal,

So, life with this young mermaid has proven to be quite taxing on me. That's not to say I don't enjoy her; that's far from the case, actually. But, for some reason, she's deathly timid. (Almost literally!) I first found her in a pond outside my humble abode, and I thought her to be a mermaid of legend that children speak of. It turned out, however, that she was not! I do not know why this child is so shy, however. She's extremely beautiful! Her skin is a creamy white, her hair is a soft arctic blue, and it has a wave in it like an ocean. She has the sweetest, most angelic face you would ever hope to see, as well! She's gonna be a head-turner when she's older, that's for sure. If only she would get over that complex she has... Huh... I wonder if I could help??

That... Just gave me an idea! I shall be back, and report to you how my ideas goes!

Journal Entry: 3

______Dearest Journal,

The plan was a success! Well, not a complete success, as the poor girl has been staring at her reflection for the past hour or so. Well, what happened was that I decided to give her a complete makeover! It was so fabulous; I would have killed for a makeover at that age. So, when I went pull her out of the tub, she would simply not leave that clam behind! She even held onto it whilst I gave her a makeover. Anyways, this is what the makeover included:

1. Hair
~ First, I washed her hair with shampoo that had pearl extracts in it! Her hair was so slimy; it even had salt in it! After I washed it, it shined like a sparkling ocean wave. I then proceeded to blow dry her hair, to which she exclaimed "it's too hot," so I let it air-dry. After about a half-hour, I then had to choose what style to make her hair into. Although her hair was naturally wavy, it was just... Plain! She needed style! So, it struck me. Ringlets! When I started to curl her hair, steam arose and sizzled, like normal, but she didn't think so. She started to cry "no, stop, stop, it's cooking," but I think she was satisfied with the overrall result.

2. Accessories
~ Secondly, she needed something to go with her (other than a clam). I had a surplus of jewelry already, and giving some up wouldn't hurt. After a thorough searching, the fruits of my labor were silver bangles, a ruby choker, pearl baubles, and a sapphire ring. The girl looked at all the jewelry as if it was trash! She refused to wear anything except for the pearl baubles. I'll have to admit, I was slightly offended that she turned down my jewelry, but I supposed it is a matter of preference. She did, however, look adorable with the baubles.

3. Clothing
~ Lastly, she needed something to cover her chest! The sad thing was, I had nothing that was for children, nor waterproof! I searched high and low through my vast closet, and came up empty-handed. I couldn't bare to alter any of my precious clothing for something that would most likely be ruined in a short amount of time. And then, I noticed my blinds! They were simply perfect. I grabbed a strand down, tailored it a bit, and wrapped it around her! She ended up looking adorable, and it fit her to a t.

Now, she just needs a new personality... And a name!!
