This has to be my favorite book of all time. It's an easy, short, highly amusing read, and the way the mystery is developed, it's hard to put the book down. Marguerite and Sir Percy make such a wonderful couple. I think Percy is one of my favorite characters of all time.
Basically, this is a 1905 superhero story. The main character is Marguerite, a French actress during the French Revolution, who is fascinated (as is all of England and France) by the mysterious Scarlet Pimpernel, a man who has been rescuing members of the French aristocracy from the guillotine. Somehow, this master of disguise is able to sneak aristocrats out of the country and elude the French officials, most notably Chauvelin, who has been assigned to capture him. The entire story is a cat and mouse game, with the smart-aleck Scarlet Pimpernel pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.

Oh I've never read the book but I hope to some day! I saw the movie in a History class back in seventh grade. I loved the movie, so hopefully I'll love the book even more!

This book was my first exposure to the wonderful writing of Emmuska Orczy and I love her work so she is my favorite author now.
I've been reading the sequels during my vacation between college quarters. Right now I am reading Lord Tony's Wife. Chauvelin gets even more devious as time goes on and I love it. I shall finish it once I log offline.

My dad read that book out loud to me and my two sisters. It's awesome! I love when he tricks Chauvelin, especially with the snuff and *spoiler*dressing up as a peasant. The whistling the national anthem was pretty cool too!*spoiler* Then we went and saw the movie (the old one), which was pretty good but not as good as the book.

funny story about that book!! i bought it where i live in a second hand bookstore...took it on vacation with me to england. Wrote my name in it and left it there on a shelf in a hotel i stayed in. About a year after i was wandering through the bookstore my mom works at, and found it on the shelf, all intact and with my name written in it. SO SWEET!
ps. its so good?? i picked it up because it sounded funny, and fell in love with it.

This makes me think, with all the outpouring of Hero themed movies & shows of last few years Gaia needs Hero type items (tho allready a Zorro like mask) Capes, masks, accessories of classic heros like Zorro or the Scarlet Pimpernell, and new ones like Superman or Wonderwoman
Villans too, ooo, villans ^^

I thought it was a pretty good book (my sister hyped it up too much)
The only problem is i knew who the pimpernel was from the begining...i am a good guesser... Though, i must say, it is one of the few books that i think is written so well, (action wise) that i COULD see it turned into a movie...

I actually didn't think it was that amazing. I, within the first few chapters, guessed who the Pimpernel was, so it wasn't that much fun to read. It IS a good book, but i wouldn't say it is in my top ten.
