:~ When One Door closes, Another Window Opens ~: 1/3 “ What the heck is wrong with my key today?” Lara complained bitterly as she continued to ram her key into the lock of her door in a pathetic attempt to get it open. As usual her door was refusing to open not matter what Lara did, not matter how much she fiddled with the handle, attempted to turn the key or even go so far as to try breaking the door knob off, her efforts where proving to be useless. “Why do I bother anymore?” she grumbled moving towards a window and removing the fly screen mesh to climb her way in. Once she had manoeuvred herself into her own house via the window - a task most difficult when you have giant wings sprouting from your forehead - She placed the small brown bag she had just purchased onto her table and started making herself a cup of earl grey tea.
Lara leaned back on her counter whilst waiting on the water to boil thinking of naught a thing when her eye cam to lie upon the her recent buy resting on the table. Inside of course was the Vanilla-coconut oil and burner from the store which lay not to far up the road. Her mind brought back the memory of how alluring and attractive the scent had been in the store, how impulsively she had leapt to snatch the tempting aroma after the store manager showed it to her. And brought it before another shopper could even contemplate obtaining it for themselves.
It only took a single glance before Lara turned her back and began fumbling about in her kitchen draws looking for a tea light candle -why she hadn’t purchased one at the store was beyond her own knowledge- and a lighter or match. She found three matches in her desk draw and the candle in her bathroom.
Briskly walking back to the kitchen, Lara unpacked the oil and burner to set them up on her kitchen table but not before noticing how weak the oil smelt… surly it would pick up once she had the flame going beneath it. But unfortunately that was not the case. What she did get however, was rather a surprise

:~ Don't Pretend You Can't see Us ~: 2/3 As Lara lit the wick on her tea candle -mulling over why there was a lack of fragrance- she noticed her vision suddenly blurring, Greying actually. Instantly, as most people would, she became distracted and broke off from her train of thought. Quickly she realised it was simply smoke blowing into her face from the flames of her candle and swatted the grey out of her eyes. Nevertheless it soon came back blowing, no, not blowing, fluttering in her face. But what was with that? smoke didn’t flutter! Lara looked at the smoke this time and frowned at the site in surprise.
Small smoke butterflies about the size of a twenty cent piece flew around her head, excitedly as if they realised the things has at last caught her attention. The winged pretties flew about as if in a confused frenzy, sending shadows of their smoky tails every where and once or twice they even colliding with each other creating a beautiful grey cloud, only to reform moments later close to the collision site. Eventually, one of the murky butterflies managed to break free of the mayhem caused so easily and gently began to flit about Lara’s kitchen.
Soon the other fragments of smoke began following the less muddled one, clearly deeming this to be their ‘leader’ of sorts and the small assembly disappeared into the next room, their tails creating a clear path as if beckoning Lara to follow. Which she, involuntarily did, as if under hypnosis.
The Butterflies led Lara into her own bedroom, to the side of the wall closest to the ocean. The air in her room was cool and a little salty from the breeze blowing in from her window and yet even this did not upset the candle’s flame. It merely made the ghost like insects, repeatedly break apart and reconstruct as if set in a perpetual time loop of death and rebirth.

:~ Where We Shall Stay ~: 3/3 No sooner had Lara taken to the center of the room when the fragile wisps suddenly zoomed in opposite directions of one another, completely changing from their disposition of only moments ago when they had flitted about the flame and lead her here. The butterflies made no intention of stopping at the walls, no. Instead they hit the walls like speeding and crazed rockets who knew only their targets and cared not for what might happen to them.
As the creatures blew apart they each let a beautiful fragrance encircle the room, the same overwhelmingly calm and serene aroma she had been given at the store. A wash of home coming came over her as if she had just been away for a number of…of years really, and the relief of arriving back someplace comforting.
Lara basked in the emotion, enjoying the fluttering feeling it brought to her heart. But these were not her own emotions, how could they be? she had only been out of the house not long ago. She turned about, looking for the butterflies once more but what she found was slightly more interesting.
A smoky shadow sat, perched on top of the windowsill just next to her bed where a fantastic scent of the beach came in when the wind picked up just around seven in the morning. The smoke shadow had a human type form, genderless but definitely human. It raised a shadowy hand and patted the surface next to it, well it tried to anyway. more or less the shadows hand just passed through the solid but the message was clear.
Lara nodded, understanding at last what it desired and then it just blew away. Out the open window and into the breeze which was blowing lazily outside. She looked down at her oil and burner, still going even after all the wind it had been exposed to. Gently she placed the burner in the exact place where the 'thing' had suggest. "you could have just asked you know?"

:~ This Is OUR House Now~: “Oh Shoot!” Lara uttered as she pulled a bag of groceries into the boot of her car. Lara stood on the third floor, lot ‘F’ car park. It had only taken her a grand total of fifteen minutes to remember where the car was parked. A recent trip to her pantry and fridge had forced her into stepping out of the house for about an hour to buy food and other necessities to fill her house with. She hadn’t intended to stay out as long as she did. Just a loaf of bread, bit of milk, cereal and tea bags was all she had planned to get. But as always, it was very easy for her to get side tracked in a place like this.
A cup of coffee and cake, a look inside almost every clothing store, and a browse through the shopping centre’s largest book store later. She was here at finally at her car. Only about forty minutes longer than she had thought she would be.
She hurriedly packed her bags and jumped behind the wheel. Her car cut someone off as she reversed out, and calmly the driver expressed his gratitude with a long thump on his horn and a look that could kill. Lara could only signal she was sorry and give him a look of apology.
As soon as she was out of that closed in area and past the traffic, she took a right turn and sped down the back streets towards home. “Idiot!” She scolded herself. “What kind of a moron leaves the house with a candle still burning!? Uhg!” Her self anguish was tossed aside for the moment while she concentrated on the road. Paying attention to see if anyone flashed their high beams at her. Thoughts of fire and smoke spreading across her couch, up the curtains and along her deck began to form in her mind and by the time she arrived at her house Lara was sure she could smell the scent of smoke rising from somewhere.
Her eyes darted anxiously around the establishment as she shoved the car door open not bothering to close it. No smoke from the windows, no fire blazing at the door. Things seemed to be alright.
The tension which had been rising all the way home, literally fell of her neck.
She breathed in, the imaginary smoke aroma had disappeared. Nothing to worry about. Lara spun around and shut the door, glancing at it to see if she had scratched when she thrust it open. Groceries in one hand, keys in the other. She opened the door of her home. Ready to simply push the food onto the bench top and go sleep for a while. Which was not what happened.
“WHAT THE HECK, I BEEN ROBBED!”Lara’s eye fell straight to the oil cup and broken candle which lay on the floor of her bed room. The groceries already were on the counter top so she had come in here for a single moment to lay down and…
“My oil burner,” she cried kneeling down to look at the broken pieces. “It was brand new as well,” Her fingers picked up the pieces, as if by simply collecting them back together she could piece it into a whole once more. She could fear that lump in her throat that came right before tears and the corners of her eyes burned. What kind of a rotten thief was this?
Letting the broken shards fall from her hands, Lara lifted herself off the ground and returned to the kitchen. She pulled the new box of tea from one of the shopping bags and made her self a cup. She was very distressed about her home being broken into. Lara picked up the cup and headed out onto the deck. The view always made her smile at times like this and she hopped it would not fail to cheer her up.
The view was just as wonderful as promised, beautiful and calming. She turned her head to get a look at the stretching sand which rimmed the landscape. Just as wonderful With a finale inhale of the air she turned around to head back inside. Now about those groceries…
“You’re not going inside are you?” Lara stopped in her tracks, and shifted her head to look at the ‘empty’ deck chairs and tables. Which were not as empty as they should have been.
“Why would you want to be in there when everything’s out here?” The voice had come from a beautiful looking child, who had perched herself on one of the wicker chairs. She was attractive in the sort of sun tanned beach beauty way. The sort who could just wear a two piece swimsuit when she got older and every girl on the beach would take a hit on her self esteem when she walked by.
“What are you doing here?” Lara said, still shocked to find a child sitting so comfortably in her home. “Sorry if it’s a bother but, the view was just so stunning I couldn’t stay inside. You don’t mind do you?”
“Stay inside….what?” Lara took a step towards her and gave her a gentile pull at the arm. Lara had just gotten robed. No need for a this girl to be hanging about. Unless it WAS her who broke in. she did say inside. Much to her annoyance though, the girl didn’t move. She tucked her feet under her and just gave Lara the most sly and defiante look, as if she knew something Lara didn’t. “Sorry Lady but, so long as we live here. I’m gonna be crashing in the guest room,” We?

:~ ANOTHER ONE!? ~: Lara Tired back her hair and faced her reflection in the mirror. Calanthe was still asleep in her room and the rest of the house was in fairly good condition. Now it was time for the hard part.
Originally, Lara had only planned on getting one new child to fill up her house and occupy her with their company. Now she had two. Both of which knew nothing of the other. She would have to fill out the information on that when she went to pick up her new -she hopped- son.
Calanthe had been very unexpected, and thus she had raced around to get things ready. However this time she had warning and decided it best to organise everything before hand. She needed to work out were the new babe would sleep and what she would need. Calanthe had just appeared as a child, so she didn’t really NEED everything for her. But she would need a few things when the boy arrived.
But first things first, a room. In the beginning the guest bed room was supposed to belong to him. But Calanthe had ‘bagged’ that room upon her arrival and it seemed only fair as she was the oldest. So, which room was it to be. She couldn’t have her room, were would she sleep then? And the entertainment room seemed a little…. Well it would be too much work to move everything around. So that was a ‘no’ for it as well. So it seemed the only place left was the study. It already had some built in wardrobes anyway, so at least she wouldn’t need to buy them like she did Calanthe.
“Alright Girlie, let’s get stuck into it,” Lara shoved on a casual t-shirt and a pair of jeans. When moving heavy object around, it was wiser to go for comfort over style.
The study was very typical as to what one might expect. It wasn’t the million dollar, red carpet with wood panelled walls and varnished mahogany desk and book shelves. But it did hold book shelves, lamps, a desk and a computer plus chair in the corner. Not state of the art but comfortable for what a girl might need should she decided to do some actually work. Which Lara hardly ever did.
Yes, The study seemed the perfect place to change into a bed room.
The First thing Lara did, was to unplug all electronic items and remove them into another room. She pushed the chair closer to the book shelf and began shoving the books into a box which she let sit between the arm rests. She wheeled the chair out with the electronics and decided she would need to tackle the task of moving the desk before she could move the book shelf. After about an hour of trying to flip it onto its side to move it out the room. The best conclusion was simply to drag the damn thing, which is precisely what she did.
The rest of the moving was generally very basic, into the room, grab an item, go out the room, put down the item, repeat. It wasn’t a hard task, just tedious and rhythmic.
At last the room was empty, and all that was left was to find a place for everything that had previously been in the room and to move in the bed and equipment she had already purchased for the boy. Surprisingly, the task didn’t take her as long as she had expected and she ended up completing her work within the next two hours. Now to put her feet up and relax.
“LARA! WHY IS THERE A SECOND BEDROOM WHERE THE SUDY USED TO BE?”!
Curses, there was still one last thing to do on her list.

:~ Beach Side Carnival ~: A Roleplay with Vanyel and Kitten The Beach Side Carnival lights sparkled dimly against the intense sunset sky. They had only just turned them on to attract night time customers and even though barley visable, they still helped. The ferris wheel loomed high over the entire park, being seen from miles off.
Lara could literally feel her arm being half pulled off by the enthusiasim of Calanthe's tug. "Slow down Calie. I can't keep up. No need to be so forcful!" The young girl turned around to face her new care taker, a dissaproving pout on her face. "I wouldn't have to pull you everywhere if you learnt to use that invention you have. I believe they're called 'feet' stop dragging them," Calie rolled her eyes and skipped off down the wooden streets towards the carnival. I wonder if the freak show is looking for new acts Lara pondered grinding her teeth with irritation. I know one kid who may need a new place to stay...Vanyel and Kitten had arriven, of course, early for the carnival. Vanyel insisted that she be one of the first allowed in so that she would not be stuck in the middle of the vents with the vast number of people. The poor girl was worried about excessively large crowds and as Kitten had explained to her, the beginning of most events were usually when the smallest amount of people hung about.
Of course, it was no longer the beginning of the carnival so the activities had picked up. Some shops were just now opening and Vanyel was excited about going into them. So far she'd bought herself a small trinket to hand from her glasses and cute ties for her braids. These things weren't actually bought by Vanyel, but by Kitten.
Kitten seemed almost more excited by the carnival than the little orange-haired girl, but this was usually the case. As open and sweet as Vanyel was, her guardian was even more energetic and bubbly. "Van, let's go to the shop across the street! I think they're selling food. Aren't you hungry?" Vanyel nodded and the two made their way out of the shop they were in and into the bustling streets of the carnival."Is there anything you want look at first?" Lara question the inquisitive girl. She seemed to be occupied with everything. The screaming of people from the roller coaster, to the rigged games of side show ally. It would certainly help if the pair had some sort of direction as to what they should do first. "I want.... some of that!" Calie exclaimed brightly noticing another child like herself holding a large cloud of pink on a stick.
"Don't point Calanthe, it's rude!" "How so? it's not even alive?," "That's what I thought, until I brought home this wired oil burner," Calanthe laughed, clearly enjoying the experience. "What ever he pink stuff is, can I just have some?" "Manors?" "Please?"
Lara walked Calanthe over to a food stand across the street, they were about fith inline at the moment. Which would usually be okay, if the vendor wasn't so slow.Kitten didn't notice Lara and her charge slip into line behind them, but she would have certainly agreed about how long this vendor was taking. "How bloody long does it take to roll cotton candy? It's sugar for pete's sake,"
"Who is Pete?" asked Vanyel curiously, tiling her head up to look at Kitten and in turn readjust her glasses that were slipping down her nose. Kitten groaned at the question. "You know Van, I keep forgetting that you came from a little gel cup and that you don't actually know all the slang that someone your age would have picked up by now. Especially since you can't read about this Pete man in your books. But I don't know who he is actually, he's just some guy that has a sake apparently," Kitten said with a laugh, ruffling Vanyel's hair much to the girls dismay. “See what your slowness has done to us Lara? Now we stuck behind THESE people,”
Lara wondered if anything she did could make this girl stop complaining. “Calanthe, don’t you think you could use a little less tone? I would hate to see you grow up spoilt,” “So…making yourself happy isn‘t right?”
“No, I’m just saying be nicer about it,” Calanthe looked at Lara. She had the most sincere ‘I only want the best for you’ look in her eyes. It wasn’t pleading, just a sort of look that meant it would mean disappointment for her if Calie began to let her behaviour slip. Calanthe settled down and just turned to wait inline. She felt as Lara comb her hair with her fingers as they waited.
Lara looked down at the crown of creme shaded hair which spread from little girls head. She could still smell the scent of Vanilla-coconut wafting off her skin, mingles with the scent of orange. Hang on, orange wasn’t usual. Lara bent her head lower to Calanthe’s as if kissing her on the forehead, and breathed in the scent. Nope. Her little one was orange scent free. “It’s from the girl in front of us,”
Calanthe said, guessing what Lara was doing. “Tangy isn‘t it?” Despite the hustle and bustle of the loud carnival, Kitten and Vanyel found themselves able to hear whisps of the conversation between the family behind them. It was most unfortunate however that the only thing Vanyel caught from Calanthe was the line "It's from the girl infront of us."
Quickly Vanyel turned around and placed her hands one her hips, her long sleeved draping half way down her thighs. "Hey, I don't know what it was, but It wasn't 'from' me," she retorted with a wrinkle of her nose. She obviously wasn't actually upset, just playfully testy about being accused of what she thought was something much less innocent than smelling like orange haze.
Kitten laughed and turned about as well, putting a hand infront of Vanyel and pushing her back a bit. Atleast if she planned on pouncing the long haired girl she'd need an extra step or two from the added distance. "I'm sorry about this..."Lara laughed, how cute the red haired child appeared with her pose matching that of a scolding mother when she was hardly over the age of thirteen herself. She shook her head, looking down at Little Miss Orange. "It's really no trouble at all," Lara said, turning to meet the mother's eyes. "If anything it's our fault. We really shouldn't have been speaking about you," "It's not like it was anything bad," the creme haired girl chirped in. Eager to prove herself innocent. “ It's just that you smell like orange colour," "Fruit Calie, Orange fruit," "That too,"
Lara rolled her eyes, it was a strange to think that a child of her age still got them confused. It often seemed that she was a normal child, until things like that occurred. "Either way Miss, Calanthe and I would like to apologize,"
Calanthe would really need to get a better hold over what she said, she obviously didn't understand how saying things like that could effect people. What was she to do? clearly however, Calie cared very little as to what was going on. She continuously kept kicking into the dirt, looking ahead of the line to see how long until she got her fairy floss and generally being very fidgety. When would she learn such behaviour really was frowned upon?Kitten smiled warmly and shook her head, releasing Vanyel and gently playing with one of her braid while she admired the other girl's light and lofty locks of hair. They were truly stunning. Honestly, Kitten was fairly interested in what she used to shampoo and condition, but she didn't really think it was the most appropriate topic to talk about at the moment.
At the mention of Vanyel smelling like oranges Kitten paled slightly; she wasn't sure if she should be explaining why or not. What did one say in a situation such as this? "Well, uhm, I actually can't get the smell off of her. I'm sorry if it' a distasteful smell to you but I'm sure once this line starts moving you'll be rid of it."
Vanyel put her hands on her hip and gave an irritated look. "Excuse me? You make it sound like I'm a bad scent. Didn't you pick me out? I'll have you know that a large majority of people prefer fruity, citrus scents like myself to other scents. If you disliked it so much then I suppose you should have picked a different cup. Maybe you'd prefer the scent of wet dog." “Oh we didn’t think that at all Miss! Really it‘s a very pretty smell,”Lara was already apologising before she had heard the end of Lady kitten’s sentence, but what she did heed was when the older women said she couldn’t get rid of the smell, and what did the child mean by “You picked me”?
“I…actually have the same dilemma with Calanthe,” she gestured to the Vanilla-Coconut scented girl. “Did…How to put this. Did you come across your little one only after you brought some incense oil, from a store run by a girl with curly brown hair and a freckled boy with the faint smell of mint?”
Mean while, Calanthe was still pushing her way to the front of the candy floss line. Not caring a bit for the conversation Lara or her new adult friend might be having. A few people grumbled about being pushed back, but Callie didn’t seem to mind at all. Far to eager for the pink thing to listen to any comments from those she passed.

:~ Coconut + Mango Smoothie! ~: A Roleplay with Tango and May ( Hikari Chou ) The shopping mall was no place to keep a free spirited girl like Calanthe. There was nothing to like about it in her opinion and the girl found herself trying to recall just what Lara had said in order to make her believe That this shopping trip could be anything close to actual ‘fun’ There where people everywhere, either walking too close or walking too slow. Clusters of teenagers laughed in that annoying way which drew the attention of every head, and the ‘ I hope you buy something’ smile on every clerk was way too fake.
“Can we go now Lara!” Whined a bored Calanthe, her voice adding to the chorus of coffee making, cash exchanging, metal on metal screeches as people pulled coat hangers back and forth on metal racks. Nothing about this placed seemed appealing to Calanthe, oh yeah, walking around in circles for an hour inside an enclosed building! What was fun about that?
“We’re here looking for new clothes Callie. Unless you want to always wear that same plain white dress every day of your life,” Lara rolled her eyes. Surely she had some idea of fashion right? She was a girl after all. Maybe she would find something in one of the various clothing outlets located in the store. “Umm… Do you want to look in that one there? I think it will have some dresses that fit! And just look at how pretty they are,’
Lara rushed over to point out the white and red polka dot shirt with puff sleeves. It was on a mannequin which wore the shirt with bell bottom black jeans. It wasn’t too bad really. But Calanthe stuck her tongue and blew a raspberry in her disliking for the garment. The winged guardian sighed, let go off the shirt and went back to Calanthe. “Next store I suppose?” Tango rarely spoke to May. Matter of fact, from the moment he was born he had only said hi. And that wasn’t even to her, but to Carrie. However, it seemed drastic measures were needed to be taken, as the thick headed woman didn’t seem to get the hint that there was nothing more boring then shopping for 3 days in a row. “Why are we here?” He hissed out, glaring daggers at the woman dubbed his mother. May glanced back, a blank, clueless expression on her face, which prompted Tango to huff and roll his eyes.
The meaning behind the words were, however, lost as the woman seemed baffled and overcome with joy that the boy had actually spoken. “Tango!” She cooed out “You spoke!” He shook his head agitatedly and shoved his hands in his pocket. He had enough of her random babbles and with a brisk change in speeds set off to find someplace that sold food. Maybe something to eat might make the trip just a tad bit better.Calanthe followed dejectedly behind her mother, who to say the least, seemed much more excited about shopping for Callie’s new wardrobe than she was. He arm were folded across her chest and Callie’s mouth set stubbornly into an ‘I hate this, take me home’ pout. Store, after store, after store. They all sold the same thing in her eyes. Shirts, shorts, accessories. Selection? There was no selection.
Lara turned around to the girl with another outfit, this time it was a bit more sporty. Maybe she was into more tomboy clothes than pretty things. But her hopes were dashed in an instant when, before she could even present the outfit properly, Calanthe was vigorously shaking her head again. Such a picky thing. Well whether Calanthe likes it or not. That girl was going home with a new stack of clothes to hang in that closest of hers.
“My feat hurt and I’m tired. It’s past twelve and you haven’t fed me yet Lara,” Callie, stopped Lara from walking when she sat down on one of those random seats they placed in stores. The pair stood looking at each other for a moment before Lara sat down next to Calanthe. “I just thought I could do something nice for you Callie. Used this as a chance to find out what you like,” “How will picking out an outfit tell you what I like?” Calanthe made a face, clearly believing her guardian to be deluded in thinking that way. “Well if you picked out a nice frilly dress for example… I would know you’re into girlie things like dolls and tea parties and stuff. But if you likes shorts and tennis shoes. I could get you into more active things,"
Calanthe contemplated this for a moment. How cute she looked thinking away like that. Lara smiled waiting on her decision. “We need to eat,” Wow. That definitely wasn’t the brilliant conclusion she was hopping for. Calanthe got up and began walking in the direction she had come from towards the food court.

:~ Bad News ~: “So we’re going. To have a. Little. KID! STAYING HERE!” Calanthe was not impressed with the idea of having a younger brother. “Why wasn’t I told SOONER!” Calanthe walked in a huff, pacing constantly back and forth across the small room. Her temper would have sent the small girls face a tomato red were it not for the natural tan she held in her complexion. The whole idea was, to her, idiocy. “Yes…but you’ll still have your own room, your own bed and I’m sure he won’t be a fuss. Calanthe don’t act like this it’s pointless anyway,” Lara pleaded desperately to the young girl. She was not used to having Calanthe so furious with her reaction. Sure the kid could overreact, but it was nothing like this. She seemed sincerely upset. “What would be so bad, really?”
“EVERYTHING!” Calanthe turned on Lara, pulling her face into a lasting scowl and pushing her face into Lara’s, emphasizing her point. “Send. It. Back,” She pronounced every word accurately. As if she was making a point. Lara as the child, Calanthe as the superior. “You can’t just ‘send’ a child back where it came from Calanthe. Things don’t work like that,” The winged woman shook her head, pulling away from the young child. “ What’s done is done. You just have to accept it the way it is. He’s coming and it’s far too late to stop things now. Nothing can be done, even if I did want to send it back,” “So you want to send it back?” “No! I didn’t say that, I Jus-” “ Then you are obviously bisist. Why would you try to send something back if you want it? You haven’t looked because you don’t want to!” Lara rolled her eyes, ignoring the fact that Calanthe had misplaced the word. Using ‘Bisist’ instead of ‘Biased’. But her mind didn’t have time to think over Calanthe’s lack of grammatical skills. She had to do something about this dispute with Calanthe. Clearly, asking the girl, was the wrong way to handle the situation. Lara straightened her posture and placed her arms tensely by her side.
Calanthe had turned her back on Lara, clearly in a gesture of rudeness to spite her soft hearted guardian. She had not been expecting the sudden pull as Lara spun her about, bringing the bickering pair to face one another. “Look,” Lara’s voice was sympathetic but unyielding. “ This ‘adoption’, so to speak, has been arranged before you even came to stay here. Thus, I can assure that there is near to naught that will change my mind. I admit, I did not intend to have two young people running about but I refuse to exchange one of you for the other. I won’t throw you out just for the sake of the soon to be ‘brother’ you will have and I won’t let you ruin his chance of being happy here either,” Lara stared into Calanthe’s eyes, or rather her eye lids. The girl seemed to find the wall far more approachable than her it seemed. Lara let her arms which rested on Calanthe’s shoulders fall, waiting for the girl to react.
With a furious and almost tearful look, Calanthe marched past Lara and sat down on the bed in her room, not bothered to close the door. She leaned against the bed head, muttering angry sentiments to herself and about this horrible new brother that would be coming to stay. How she hated the idea, not even the heavenly scented sea breeze which blew in through the window helped her relax. It only reminded her of the anger she felt towards her half siren custodian.
Back in the living room, Lara sighed exasperatedly, looking on as Calanthe shoved her knees into her chest. Just as before she was staring at the wall ahead, only she talked with it now. The wings which crowned Lara’s head slumped, it seemed her entire being felt the wave of discontent for Calanthe. She hadn’t shouted or hit Callie, but she still felt the guilt for being the reason for making the girl unhappy. Not even the heavenly scented Vanilla-coconut breeze which blew in through the door helped her relax. It only reminded her of the distraught sense she felt towards her fragrant little girl.

:~ One Summer's Day ~: A Roleplay with Crystal ( Chrystali ) Summer was finally here, and it was showing gaily in the lower portion of Cyrus City; the streets were filled with people, the air was thick with the scent of foods and the day was hardly noon. The sky was the type you'd see in paintings, a clear and unbelievable blue without a cloud in sight, the weather warm without being stiffling just yet.
Crystal already missed the cooler weather, but that might have been that she wasn't a big fan of wearing shorter dresses. As it was, she doned a plain summer dress that fell just below her knees, a blue just a few shades lighter than the sky that brought out the muted cerulean in her eyes. Her normally curly hair was strangely straight, pulled back into a braided ponytail, hardly looking like herself without those signature ringlets. She was outside of The Gilded Lily, watering the plants, much to her mother's dismay; the grand opening of the cafe had been her birthday, but the girl had refused to stay home. She'd been working, as it was really all she knew to do.
The two rascal children she'd been watching over were strangely quiet and demur, sitting on a bench just outside the store with guilty expressions. They smiled at people who came and went, but said precious little.
The store itself was bustling; there were flowers of yellow, orange and red displayed outside, welcoming the summer with a grand swath of color. Arrangements hung from hooks upon the awning, with various potted plants lining the path to the store, although there were small routes where one could look at the smaller floral displays that were placed to the best advantage. It was these smaller ones on the opposite side of the cafe that the flower girl was tending to, humming to herself and her floral audience. “Its such beautiful weather today isn’t it Callie!?” Lara smiled at her little crème haired child. For once, the girl seemed to be enjoying the day as much as her siren mother. Unexpectedly, Lara had left her wings out today. Not bothering to try and make them less discreet as she normally would. The feathers moved very cautiously in the wind, as if they would all blow away if it started pulling too hard. Larainne wore her usual salmon pink dress, perfect for this type of temperature and kept her cool under the sun, when the breeze wasn’t blowing.
“We’re going out again aren’t we?” Calanthe leaned against the rail of the decking, at exactly the same spot Lara had first come across the girl. A salty breeze mingled with the smooth scent of coconut and Vanilla drifted past. Surprisingly enough, Lara had indeed found the girl one out fit she liked while walking along the street of beach side shops. It was a basic pair of three quarter yellow board shorts with flower patterning on one side and a white draw string, topped with an orange singlet inscribed with the words ‘ Island paradise’ and a picture of a beach in gold thread. Which of course, was the outfit she has selected for today.
Lara nodded. Today they were heading into the city. Despite how much they both disliked the metropolis. Unfortunately it was an unavoidable outing as Lara needed to pick up some new furniture that the beach regions just didn’t offer. So here they were, two sea lovers in the big city. “It’s nice…but some of building close out the sun,” Calanthe always had one thing to complain about. “But it’s better than being locked up in the house right?” Calanthe shrugged, giving her mother a black expression and tone in her response. “I’m here because I have to be,” And that was the end of that.
Lara sighed, still walking along the street towards their destination ‘ House and Home furniture store’ “Can I ask you a question Lara?,” Calanthe caught the attention of her mother, pulling her hand to stop. She spoke in that way kids do when they want something. “The idea of watching you looks at beds is really boring to me,” Of course it would be. Not even Lara found looking at beds fun. She nodded. “ Well… you see. The store you want is just up ahead but on the opposite side of that you may see a.-,” “Toy store eh?” Lara laughed. “You want to go in while I’m looking?” Calanthe nodded.
The Woman bit her lip… unsure if she wanted to let Calanthe go in such a big place. It was going to be boring, and the store was just across the way but… “I’ll be careful,” Calanthe tacked on the end, once again in that typical child like way. “Fine. But Be careful. Promise?” “Promise!” Calanthe gave Lara a high five. Her own way of saying ‘Thanks, I love ya’
Lara entered the furniture store while Callie entered the other. However the toy store didn’t end up being nearly as big as it looked on the out side and it only took her about five minutes to look at everything she found interesting. “Well that was a waste,” Calanthe gripped, stepping out the front of the store. Hesitant to go find Lara. She really didn’t want to go on a bed shopping spree, and would much rather hang around out side.
It was at that moment she caught the most wonderful aroma of lavender, rose, jasmine and an assortment of other flower scents she couldn’t pick out. It really was heavenly. I promised to be careful…but she didn’t say where I had to be! Calanthe took of down the street, following where the perfume came from.
“The…Gild-ed…Lily,” Calanthe read the words hanging over the store. This place was a fire work of colour on a grey back drop. She breathed in the scene of the store, beautiful it was. She bent her head low over a bouquet of assorted flowers. Maybe the city wasn’t as dull or lifeless as she had gained the impression of. >> In Progress <<

:~ The Cabbage That Wasn't A Cabbage ~: And there she sat. Or kneeled rather, the winged maid was sitting upright on her knees, bending over the square, wooded box which sat in front of her. She had only just finished packing it and she took the moment to look at her handy work. It was not what she had expected, but all the same Lara had been compelled to follow the direction given to her. What Larainne Kardon was looking at exactly, was a planting box, just filled with the soil she had purchased from the nursery not far away, and the cabbage plant left on her door step over night.
It had been coming up to eight in the morning when Lara stepped out of her doors to fetch the mail, when she found the strange ‘gift’ left for her to receive. Along with it came a card with instructions to take care of the cabbage and keep it in safe conditions. Because apparently, this was going to be the child she adopted.
Normally, one would naturally be VERY sceptic of such an idea. But it was hard for Lara to believe the idea completely impossible when all she need do was look over her shoulder and spot the child with white hair whom had sprung from a broken oil cup. So here she sat…
Dirt was thrown all over the deck from where Lara had failed at pouring the dirt into the potting box via a wheel barrow. She had very little knowledge on gardening at all, but then again she didn’t know what came with raising a child either. But if Gardening was suddenly a new requirement for bringing up children, then she would work her hardest to make the plant grow! Or what ever it was it should or might do.
At the moment, her first experience in children was running around on the beach. That was one good thing for Callie at least. A house directly in front of the beach meant she could go and run about in the sand almost whenever she wanted, and it only took a glance out the back window for Lara to see she was still in one piece. Today however, Lara was on the back porch anyway, so she could practically hear Callie laughing her brains out at the strange grabs shuffling by, or her distress when finding the mote around her sand castle destroyed. It was honestly hard to pick her age up at times. The appearance of a twelve year old but amused by things which could entertain a six year old. She had also noticed Callie was much more suited to being by herself than with others. Around others she was sarcastic and borderline rude. But by herself she could very easily smile and be amused by her own day dreamings. What was that girl thinking?
Lara stood up at last, brushing the stains off her clothes, luckily she had chosen to wear a pair of jeans and a baggy shirt while gardening. It was the only pair of ‘ratty’ clothes she had. Living by yourself for so long meant you had more money to spend on yourself, so she never had to hold onto old clothes and part of wished that could continue even with Callie and this new one. Lara turned around and headed towards the kitchen for a drink-
“Why all the dirt?” asked a curious Calanthe, gazing at the spilt soil everywhere. Calanthe really had no idea, because once Lara had realised what the cabbage was, she had sent Callie down to the beech to play so she could plant the cabbage without grief. However she had been in such a rush to stop Calanthe knowing, she forgot that Callie didn’t actually know that her brother WAS the cabbage. And for the moment…wouldn’t it be better if she didn’t know? It had taken her awhile to stop looking at Lara with such a sour expression.
“Just gardening. I went down to the nursery and got the soil this morning. Things won’t grow in beach soil. Too much salt. Needed the good stuff for it,” Once her question was answered the curiosity was gone and Calanthe went back to her…less cooperative self. “ What do you need it for? The beach is already good scenery so you don’t need ‘plants’. You’ll probably want me to eat it when it’s grown,” She made a face, not hiding her dislike for healthy food. “Nope,” Lara replied. Being completely honest. Callie was NOT going to eat her brother. “ I was just wanting to grow something, a new hobby I guess,” At this Calanthe stopped to think. “ Think I could have a hobby…?” a natural response for a twelve year old. She needed something to fill her time. “ Well… if you want you can garden it for me. I’m sort of already over it. Too much time outdoors and way too much dirt,” She gestured at the mess. She really would have to hose It off. “I…can do that,” Calanthe said with a nod. Suddenly remembering something. She had met a lovely lady at a flouriest named Crystal. She was very kind to Calanthe and she recalled Crystal telling her taking care of her plants made her happy. Maybey growing something would make her happy too. It was then that Calanthe decided to take care of the thing.
“ Okay. Now what do I have to do to take care of it?” Callie turned to her guardian looking for answers. “You could always…stop calling it ’it’. I’m sure you would hate it if I had called you ‘it’ right?” The girl nodded in agreement. What a terrible thing it was to be without a name. “ I already named it actually…while I was potting it. You should stick with the name I gave it,” Lara said the words sheepishly, as if she was admitting something wrong. At this Calanthe rolled her eyes. “Fine, just take the fun out of it for me huh? Well what’s it?” Her tone picked up an octave in annoyance. Lara let it slide. “Lucien,” “Fine,”Calanthe looked at it again, putting her hands on her hips and then walked into the entertainment room where Lara had moved all the study stuff to. If she was to take care of ’Lucien’ She would need information about it right? TO THE INTERNET!
Lara smiled at her handiwork of the situation, standing up to admire it more clearly as it disappeared into the house. Right before she turned around and saw all the dirt she now had to push off the Veranda.
