It was about midday, and the she-wolf still hadn't found herself anything to eat. It was becoming increasingly harder for her, what with winter settling in and everything. And it seemed that she always ventured into areas with few predators, so abandoned carcasses were few and far in between. She only seemed to get skinnier, and it was amazing that she had managed to survive this long on her own. She needed to find a permanent home and quick. There wouldn't be much wolf left within the next couple of weeks.
Coughing, her whole body shaking, she found herself in a small meadow. Tall grasses, though they were brown from the autumn, awaiting winter. She sighed. If she couldn't find a steady food source any time soon, there was no way she'd make it through the winter.
Feeling a bit discouraged from her morning scavenge, Whisper decided that she'd rest here for a little bit. Perhaps she could manage to warm herself up in the sun a little bit and get in a good nap.
Walking quietly and slowly into the meadow, she sniffed around to make sure nothing was dangerous here. Finding nothing, she found herself a suitable resting spot and immediately plopped herself down. Her frail body was tired, and she needed a great rest. Once she was settled, she licked her lips then rested her head on the ground, her tail curling around her body in an attempt to keep in all of her body heat.
She sighed. Life was so complicated now.

*Along side the eastern part of the meadow stood a large male, sturdy in frame and stance. Within his jaws lay a dead bird, with feathers of black. His golden orbs softly narrowed as he gathered his direction and padded down a slope in the earth. His paws, though large in size seemed so graceful and full of character as he moved with his head held high; Ashkie was a very strong wolf, and though he could not recall much of his past he walked with pride.
His coat was a soft mixture of browns and gold and it seemed to shimmer as he moved along. Today was a slow day for him, all morning he had been searching for something to do and out of pure boredom went after a crow- looking for a ‘game’ to play. Well, he didn’t think he would have caught the thing… but it seemed that he had.
His poor attempts at making nice with nature always seemed to fail. But on the other hand he had food now. With soft eyes the male padded onward until his moon lit eyes settled upon the form of a female wolf. She seemed very small in size and her body looked rather thin. With a soft frown the male slowly made his way to her and gazed at her closely. Though his kept himself at a safe distance he couldn’t help but feel a bit… obligated to help her.
With a soft smile he placed his kill at his paws and spoke to her softly.*
“Excuse me… but it would seem that I have had my fill and I can not eat another bit of my meal, would you like the rest?”
*He didn’t want to seem rude, but by the way her frame quivered he worried.*
“It would... be such a waste not to.”

Whisper watched the grasses sway with the gentle breeze. Somewhere in the distance birds chirped and sang to one another. Despite the cold, harsh winter setting in, they could still manage to be happy and tell delightful tales with their voices. Such melody in those voices... they reminded her of a time when she was young and she still had her friends, she still had a life. She wasn't wasting away like this.
Suddenly her head lifted. Something nearby had rustled the grasses, and it had sounded too big for just a normal squirrel or bird or some such animal. Yet before she could figure out what it was, the creature appeared in front of her.
As a first reaction, she rose to her paws and backed up a little, her tail curling between her legs and pressing up against her belly. Her ears fell flat against her skull and she lowered herself slightly so that she appeared compeltely docile and not harmful at all. It was then that the extent of her bad health could be clearly seen. Every single one of her ribs was visible, her spine was easily seen, and she appeared to be nothing but skin and bones.
Despite her situation, however, Whisp shook her head.
"Oh, no.. I.. I couldn't t-take that," she hesitated, wondering where on earth this other wolf had come from. Her golden eyes remained averted from his eyes as she shook with fear.
"I-It's fine.. you don't have to..."

*At her reaction he could see that she was very fearful of him. Again there he was, forgetting that others didn’t know his kind nature. With a soft smile his ears slowly pinned backwards as he took a few steps away from her. His nose softly pressed against the bird’s body as he pushed it forward, moving it closer to her. He didn’t say anything, no; but he did whine a little.
He knew she needed food, it was obvious. He really wasn’t going to eat this thing anyway… so why not? With a soft nod he moved himself back up and gazed at her; though he wouldn’t do that for long, no… that was rude. Turning himself he sighed and looked out at the oranges and reds of the meadow. Oh how he looked this weather, he loved the cool air that passed his fur every time the wind blew in his direction.
“No, no, I want to, it really is alright.”
*He spoke to her, though he wasn’t looking at her. He didn’t want to make her frantic or worried, so he would advert his eyes until she was done eating.*

Whisper still remained in her submissive stance, her eyes flicking nervously from him, to the ground, to the bird that he was offering her. She didn't understand why he would be offering it to her--well, she could given her current condition, but that didn't matter. She found it weird that a complete stranger would be offering food to someone who looked like they'd be gone in a week anyways.
"B-but it's y-your food," she stammered, thinking it might be some sort of trap or something. Yet then she saw him back off and look to something else. She then saw that he really meant for her to have the bird.
Relieved yet at the same time still quite nervous, the green wolfess simply stood still. Yet then she shook her head and glanced at him. What an idiot she was being! Just standing there while he was being so kind and offering her food... she felt ashamed.
Taking a small step forward, she glanced at him, hoping he didn't suddenly change his mind. He was still looking away. She looked back at the food and stretched out her neck, grabbing the food delicately between her jaws. She pulled back almost immediately, and turned so that her side was facing him. She glanced at him one more time, then glanced at the food and started eating. The meat tasted so good!
Once she had finished, she turned back to him and sat down, her tail curling around her skinny frame.
"Th-thank you.."

“Your welcome.”
*He replied with a soft nod, before turning back to face her. His ears slowly started to draw forward as he sat himself down too, a good few feet away from her; he still had to keep himself at a comfortable distance. With a soft smile he yawned and spoke.*
“My name is Ashkie, by the way.”
*His voice was very kind, though a bit on the husky side. He seemed well.*
“If you do not mind me asking… what is yours?”

Whisper simply sat ther, her tail curled around her body and her eyes watching the ground. She didn't know what else to do rather than just to be there. She was bad at starting conversations, and besides, she was nervous enough as it is. Why add to the stress trying to think of something good to say?
Yet it seemed that she didn't have to worry about starting a converation. Ashkie introduced himself and asked for her name turn. Finding it only fair, she nodded to herself.
"It's Whisper," she said quietly, glancing up at him with her sad, golden eyes.

“Whisper.”
*Ashkie repeats, as if trying to get her name right. He found himself saying it at least three times before he stopped and gave her a weak smile.*
“What are you doing out here all alone?”
*He quested with an arched brow. She seemed too frail… she looked like if a strong gust of wind hit she would fall over. He didn’t really know why but he felt for this female. Maybe it was because she was so needy-looking, and it was his heart telling him to aid her. Or maybe it was just his need to help others that drove him to come to her like this. Whatever it was the male found himself debating what to do next.*

The small female's ears perked slightly as she listened to him repeat her name several times. It had been quite a long time since she had heard anyone say her name. It actually felt rather nice, like there actually was someone out there who still knew her name and knew her face. It didn't matter to her that he had just met her and so couldn't forget her so easily.
Frowning slightly, she brought herself out of her memories to think of what to tell the male. What was she doing out here exactly? Certainly not living a life. Skinny and with no real place to stay wasn't much of a way of living.
"Wandering," she said quietly, figuring that was the best that she could do. After all, was that not what she was doing?
"I follow my hunger." It was a shame, really, that she had to live by her stomach. Most wolves could spend their days relaxing in the sun and chatting with their friends and family. But not Whisper, not this wolf. She had no home, no friends, no family. She lived every day in constant fear, a fear that drove her insane sometimes. And what did she fear? She feared simply disappearing from the earth. She feared being forgotten.

“Mmm… that’s no good, Whisper; you shouldn’t have to live life like that…”
*He trailed off softly. He felt very sad for this female; though he didn’t pity her… she was still alive after all. Ashkie only ever felt pity toward the dead, because unlike the dead… the living could still be helped. With a soft gaze his golden eyes traced along her frail frame as he spoke once more.*
“I know… I know you do not know me, but maybe I could help some? I wouldn’t mind keeping you company until you are able to get back on your paws… I could help you hunt and everything…”
*He paused and sighed. He couldn’t really speak the words he wished he could.*
“I mean… it’s better then being alone, right?”

Whisper shrugged her shoulders slightly. She didn't really mind being out her on her own. It was just the way it was, she supposed, and so dealt with it accordingly. Sure, she would prefer to live with a pack and actually have some meat on her bones to keep her warm at night and so she could be capable of really taking care of herself, but it didn't seem like that was possible for her any time soon.
As the male offered to stay with her, at least until she could get back on her own paws, she folded her ears back and frowned slightly. It wasn't that she didn't want him with her, it was just...
"Oh, oh, I couldn't... I couldn't ask that of you. Really, it'd be too much." As he mentioned hunting, she shook her head. She had had one horrible experience with hunting (she had come within reach of death) and that was it for her. Mostly she only ate rabbits and mice and whatever leftover meat she could find from other predators.
"I suppose it is but.. still. I-I can't impose like that. Really, I doubt I'm worth saving.." she spoke, as if death meant nothing to her.

“You wouldn’t be imposing at all, because I am offering to stay…”
*The male trailed off slowly. He didn’t want to startle the female… but he didn’t want to leave her in such a state. Death would take her if she continued on this path… he could smell it.*
“I really do not mind, I always have enough food for myself and others as it is.”
*He nodded again; trying to slowly persuade her into letting him stay for at least a few days at the most. He was kind at heart… and felt so bad when he looked at her. He was sure that under this frail frame stood a strong female… but something must have dragged her down. He wouldn’t budge though… he would let her deice on what she wanted to do.*
“But this dissension is completely up to you, I will not persuade you into making a wrong choice.”

Whisper blinked at the male, but not in that clueless sort of way. She knew that he was doing this from the kindness of his heart and that he probably couldn't bear to look at her in this sort of condition, but the thing was that she really didn't have a problem with it. She figured this was how her life was meant to be and there was nothing she could do to change it. Obviously, however, this wolf had something else in mind. He seemed to think she didn't have to be this way.
Perhaps he was right... after all, how could her life get any worse? Letting him help her couldn't be all bad.
"Well, I suppose I could use a little help," she admited. After all, she only managed to feed herself by eating off the carcasses of dead animals. Basically, the vision of royal wolves had been diminished with her because she had fallen down to the rank of scavenger. And she wasn't proud of it either.
"And I won't mind if you decide to leave soon enough," she told him, thinking in her mind that he wouldn't stay more than a couple of days. Whisp could only be more of a burden than anything.
Settling down to give her frail body a rest, she lowered her head and licked at her scraggly fur. It wasn't at all shiny or healthy, but she still believed it was best to keep it looking as nice as it could.

“You rest then; No harm shall come to you, so long as I am here.”
*He nodded with a soft smile. His golden eyes softly narrowed as he sat himself down not to far from his new female friend. He would keep to his words and help her for as long as she wanted him to. Ashkie would not over stay his welcome, so when the day comes that she tells him off then he will go.*
“I promise.”
