FIRST DAY OUT OF THE DEN
[BYAKKO ] [YOSHINORI] [OIVING] [DAR]
Not the brightest of wolves, but a careful father strangely enough, Byakko had volenteered to take half the litter out to get some fresh air from the den. They were well old enough and the poor mother needed a rest. The other two were fast asleep so it was as much rest as she'd be granted for a time. Byakko was smaller than most wolves, about as large as an adolecent at most though his long legs made up for that. "So when we get to the river be afraid of the fish, fish are bad. They eat the flutter-byes and they're good luck. They show you how to fly and dance."
Yoshinori followed in along behind his father though slightly more distracted. It was outside- so this is how everything looked. The grass he knew about, and the sky, but he'd only seen trees through the mouth of the den where they slept, smelled other creatures now and then. Now he could see somethings darting around in the trees, other somethings flying around in the air. "Is that a flutterbye?" He nodded up towards one of the birds up ahead.
Oiving followed closely next to Byakko. She was a little scared to be out in the world. It was so big, and this talk of mean fish was starting to scare her.
Dar trouted along behind the rest of the pups. Her dark eyes gazing up at the birds that flew up ahead. She was overwelmed with the sense that she was now out of the den and in the world she had smelt and listened to ever sense she was born. "Flutterbye? Thats a Flutterbye?"
"You'll see them in the flowers time." He explained matter-of-factually. "It's almost snow time, leaves falling time right now. The flutters don't like the cold. That's when I was a puppy too." "Snow on the ground, snow all around, everything white! Just like me." He pranced, wagging his tail happily behind him.
Yoshi's nose wrinkled, "Ground was white?" Well that diddn't do him much good...
"White ground all around? Da, why is that?" She looked up at him with a cocked eyebrow.
Dar looked down, a bit perplexed, "but the grounds not white? When does it become white?" She looked up at her father cocking her head to the side as well.
"Genbu told me that when it gets really cold it's because the sun's getting sleepy, and when the sun gets sleepy the wind gets sad and makes the sky water turn white and fluffy to try to make light again, it's all over the ground until the flowers make the sun happy again and the white goes away."
"So the white is a bad thing?"
"Can be, it's real cold and it makes it bad sometimes. Hard to eat, hard to find food and fishes. But good for me to hide."
Oi looked at her own fur. It was white too, so she could hide well. "But fishes are bad. It's good not to find them." "... right?"
"You eat the fishies. That's what you do with them because they're bad... sometimes wolves can be fishes too and they bite other wolves. Fish-wolves and bear-wolves are bad.'
"Bear wolves?" Yoshi snorted. He had heard stories of bears, big mean creatures that stood as tall as trees with claws as big as a wolf- or so Byakko said.
" IS that why we eat them? cause they are bad?"
"Yes, if you kill a fish thenthe flutters will live and you get good luck." He grinned, lopping his way up a small hill. The trees were thinning here, a normal wolf would grow more cautious as the tree cover thinned but Byakko had never learned much about that. With feet as swift as his were, if there was danger he'd simply outrun it.
Dar looked around at the trees that surrounded them. She became nervous as they walked uip the hill into more of an open area. "Where are the trees going?"
"The trees sometimes live away from the open places so we can run faster and get more sun." He explained, "The open place has the river, we're going to get drinks and I'll catch some foods for you. sound good?"
Yoshi trotted ahead of the others, parting his mouth in a wolfish grin, "The open place...we can run here right?" He looked back to get an approving nod from his father.
Oi ran up to Yoshi and troted along side him. Of all the brothers she felt more connected with him..."Yes, I wanna run."
Dar ran up to along side of Byakko. She was more of a brown nose to her father and didn't get along with her siblings very well. Her dark eyes looked to Yoshi and Oi and then to Byakko as she waited for his answer.
"Run, you want to run? When you run fast you fly! Fly fly flyyy!" Byakko stood up on his hind feet and danced around in a small circle. Basically hopping around and barking upwards.
She gasped as she looked to her sibilings, her eyes were filled with excitment. Dars tounge hung out as she ran to Yoshi and Oi. " Lets go! lets run run run, and FLY!"
"...wolf can't fly." Yoshi shook his head and began simply walking out onto the field, "I don't think wolf can."
" If daddy say we can we can!!!!" Dar ran around in little circles soon coming to a hault. She felll on her back haunches. "you can get dizzys too"
"Don't know about fly..." Yoshi smirked and looked over a shoulder, "But run yes? I can beat you to the water place."
"I'll take you on that!" Oi grinned as she troted to get even with her brother.
"What? I can beat both of you!" Dar walked back to get even with the two of them. She looked to Oi and grinned.
"No way." Oi laughed and bumped Dar's shoulder with a playful yip.
"You'll see! Daddy tell us when to go!!!" Dar bumped Oi back playfully. Soon she turned her head to face the direction of the river.
Yoshi crouched down and pressed his ears back against his skull, ebony lips curling back into a smirk. He took more after his mother than his father, giving him a stocky appearence. Short as his father but bulky as his mother, kind of akward.
Byakko chuckled and stood behind the pups as they lined up, "To the waters, first one gets first fish. Go!"
Dar crouched down low and began to run. her feet slowly started to accelerate. her start was not to quick, but once she got going there was no stopping. "I'm winning!!! you can't catch me"
Oi ran once the word was spoken. She, on the other hand, took after her father. Tall like her mother, but slender like her father. This was the perfect build for running. Her long legs carried her quickly over the ground, her small fiz tail stuck streight up un the air as she bolted toward the river.
Dar looked behind her only to see Oi catching up. she started to vreath faster. She looked to the river hoping that would get her there much quicker.
Yoshi, unfortunately, was slower than the other two and ended up waddling behind them as the other two shot foward. Byakko followed in behind them, walking easily to keep an eye on all three as they went forward.
Her fram was not built for running like her sisters, but she was still quick. Maybe since she got a head start she could win.
Oi worked as hard as she could to catch up to Dar. dar had a good head start, but Oi was quickly becoming at nose level with her sister.
Dar started panting as she noticed her sister comeing to her side. Her face turned into a serious competative face as she stared harder at the river. her pace became faster but still her sister was catching up.
Yoshi, far behind his siblings, began whining and whimpering as he fell further and further behind. He was still young, and crying over such silly games wasn't unlike a wolf his age.
Once Oi was at a tie with her sibling the river was fast there. She wasn't sure if she could pull off a clear victory... a tie seemed inevitable. But still she pressed to run faster.
Once Oi caught up. Dar crouched down lower hoping that maybe this would help. She lowered her so that it was lower than her shoulders. Her speed slowly picked up and slowly she started to get ahead of Oi but not by much
Yoshi grumped as Byakko lifted him up by the cuff of his neck and trotted to catch up to the girls. Wouldn't do to have everyone falling behind...in case there was a fish wolf around.
