The Euphonium
I play the Marching Baritone, and it doesn't really ever bother me until we get to the run throoughs at the end of practice, at which point I can hardly hold up towards the end. But I'm in wieghtlifting class, so it should help (hopefully).

omg i've seen those things, we have one in our school. the rest are regular baritones. i play the trumpet so i can see how you can at least attempt to carry the marching one, but how do you carry a regualr one? (and last yr we didn't have enough tubas, so some had to march with regular tubas, even worse eek )

it kills me to go to contests and see baritone players marching with

A. concert horns (how friggine asy and cheapo)
B. shoulder horns (theyre soooo much easier to hold up)

yeah so we've got this tradition which most places have of sending people over to meet the other band... leadership mainly... like section leaders and drum majors.

so i went over to the other band right (and met a really cute trumpet whose number i got) and... they said my name, my grade (sophomore), my shoe size, my fav color, and when they said i played baritone and that i had a solo they suddenly had TWO rows of people stand up and cheer... i was like "JESUS CHRIST ALL OF YOU ARE BARITONES?!" it was like.. 16 people. man oh man. twas insane.

then the guy said "and she enjoys long romantic walks on the beach under the moonlight" i was like " ??? " and then he said "and i made that last thing up" i was like "but hes really right" and winked at him.

but yeah... we have the same marching horns that most DCI corps have i found out haha.

and its insane thought how strong you get from doing baritone. my fish year i couldnt do JACK and i was reprimanded for my horn angle all the time. this year, im in pain, but i can do it. maybe its the fact that was have 2 hours of marching after school daily plus the 1.5 hours we do during school.

I've never seen enyone ever march a concert Baritone or Euphonium, although I think it would be jsut as hard, since they can be awkward to hold up while standing, but I don't have too much experience there, since we use Marching Baritones for marching season.

And band with 16 Baritones?! That's insane! And here I was thinkin a band had a lot with 7...

i play a marching baritone and their not all bad as far as weight goes....i feel sorry for my section cause i make them stay at perfect attention if the dont do it right the first time, and if that fails they get to practice with it even if we are practicing without instruments until they get it right. im so mean biggrin

ive been playing the marching baritone for four years and although it was heavy at first, everyone in our section has gotten used to it. but our director still likes to point and laugh at us when were running laps w/instruments. it sucks. atleast we dont have to carry the sousaphone sweatdrop .

Baritone crunchies.

At least thats what Padre (old section leaders nickname) used to tell us to do.

I'm playing Baritone and found that the Baritone is very light. It's not heavy at all. For me. But to feel the Baritone light, you must join a gym before... sweatdrop
