There was some advantage to having Silver on one's side when it came to intimidating small animals, apparently. He followed closely behind Fae, not letting the boy get too far ahead for concern that the dog hadn't just been bullying some other creature but had instead been on some sort of defense.
But when it turned out to be nothing more than --"Kitty..." Alex echoed in a mix of relaxation and an odd sort of awe, hovering behind Fae. How apropos.

He held the kitten at arms length, the little thing curled its hind legs up against its belly, arms spread from the child's hands beneath its shoulder. It mewled out loudly, distressed and frightened. A little while thing...a black smudge smeared over its face, leading from right under its left eye, all the way over the nose, over the right eye, and ending at the tip of its right ear.
He looked over to Alex and Silver, holding it to him, "..I want this one," he murmured, quietly, his father giving a light laugh...commenting how that was easier than he suspected.

Well they certainly couldn't just leave it. Alex's wings flicked once with sympathy and amusement - the first that... well, that a kitten should be alone. How odd and... somewhat painful. The second that... things should fall into place so easily and without effort.
"I cite divine providence," he turned to glance up at Silver, voice gone mildly sage-like for effect, "This must be the kitten we seek."

Silver couldn't help but snicker, and rose a hand up to take it up by the scruff, setting his hand below the tiny kitten to balance it when his released the scruff. It mewled once more, tail quivering for a lack of able-movement..probably from fear, and hunger.
He giggled a bit, "I think it is!" He chimed, and moved up between the two adults, grasping onto his father's arm while he inspected it.

There was something to be said for animals no longer quaking in fear (or, alternately, screaming) when one approached. The bird leaned slightly over Fae's head with tilted, arching neck to observe the kitten more closely, lips curling slightly in a vague and somewhat spaced-out smile as he lost some part of reality to a mixture of memory and contemplation.
"What are you going to call it?" he asked absently to Fae - names were important, after all. Well... at least so it seemed to everyone else in the world. He would just as soon go without.

Fae squeaked when the kitten was handed back down to him, and he took it close to his chest, ears flicking curiously..the gesture returned to him by the kitten, which was calming, slowly. He used a single, clawed, finger to stroke the bristled fur...not from anger, but from time spent on the street. It was obvious that its mother, and maybe siblings, were no where to be seen...hopefully they hadn't been taken out by the dog.
"I donno`," he replied, and frowned, before nudging the kitten on the head with his nose. It mewled, lowly.
"..Rowan," that was quick. He blinked and looked up at Alex, then to his father, "Can I name him Rowan?" Fae smiled when his father nodded, and looked to Alex for some kind of gesture.

He could probably ask Kingsley for the meaning there, if he really wanted it. But for Heaven's sake, it was a cat! 'Rowan' sounded nice, slipped off the tongue and into soft, mellow air. That was all the importance it needed.
The bird's head inclined slighty as he bent down to get that closer look once more, strands of hair falling loosely from where they'd previously been tucked away, "There can't be anything better," he affirmed loosely, appreciatively, that same smile still curled slightly over his mouth.

He giggled a bit, the kitten calming after a few moments. He looked up to the two elders--the kitten reaching a tiny paw up to swat at the loose strands of hair that hung decently far from his reach. Fae scratched under the feline's chin, his father patting him on the head.
He was contented, obviously, though he had a feeling their housemates wouldn't be too happy about the little one.

No there was the question of practicality post-serendipity, a somewhat unfortunate recurrence. Why couldn't the whimsical be so steadfast as to be typical? Because it would lose all semblance of its definition, of course - or at least all positive aspects.
But to deviate from senseless entanglements of words...
"We're still going to need mice," the bird pointed out the another cant of head, light whiff of amusement coloring the comment with a sweet shade of ironic humor.
