My friends and I went to a poetry reading today. I read four of my poems during the open mic portion of the reading. I honestly didn't know what to expect. I got some funny looks as I walked in for some reason, but that's probably just because the regulars had never seen me before.

After my poetry class this past semester, I had lost most of my faith in my poetry, not because I thought it was bad, but because according to my professor it's "not publishable" because it's not what people want to read. I didn't like writing like my professor, but it's part of what I had to do to pass the class. anyway:

My friends and I sat around for a while afterward, my one friend bragging about this and that that he's written and sent out and so on. Blossom called me and so I went out to talk to her, but when I came back inside, a few people called me over to ask me about the poetry class I took, and to tell me that I write very well. Several people told me they really liked my work and that I have a lot of talent. I never thought I'd actually hear that from somebody, especially since most of the stuff I've written is mediocre at best. I think they were even trying to compare my work to my friends when they made some comments about the way I rhyme.

Anyway, this is sort of a reverse-rant. It was definately refreshing to talk to some of the poeple I spoke with after the reading.

That's excellent. Will you share a poem with us?

Yeah, please share! I don't recall ever reading any of your stuff, but I could be mistaken.

That's too bad. I always found it interesting. I prefer older poetry to contemporary stuff though.
