Pack History: The Kingwa'mbwa were once a large pack of dogs of all pelts and sizes whom lived together. Always they lived near watering holes, where fuana and flora were populated; and always near lions. Their origin stories tell of how the first of their pack where at constant war with the environs. Hyena, leopard, cheetah, all creatures would kill their pack mates. Pups were especially vulnerable. It was these lessons that taught them the lesson of song. Now in the beginning, song was always mournful, but as time passed, they learned to sing of joy, and of the hunt. If was during a time when the alpha sang that a lion pride came. The dogs at first were understandably afraid of them; for they were very strong. But the leader of the pride spoke kindly, and praised their singing.
He then offered a valuable pact. The dogs would sing for them; warn them of danger; and of prey, and the lions would share their kills and protect the pack. The dogs whole-heartedly agreed. For many generations, the pack and pride held true, until plague scatted them both. But there are those remaining of the pack who came to be called Kingwa'mbwa; and the pack has begun to regather, and to seek a new alliance with yet another pride, in the fashion their ancestors did long ago....
Origin Song: Come, o come to me children
Learn the song your ancestor sang
The song of beginnings,
A tale of an end
Fortuanate are those who remember
Far across plains
In a place long ago
Sang the voices of a hundred dogs
Their song was woe,
I'll tell you now child
There was no hope long ago
Hyena came first, tricking the elders
Leading them to their death
Next came the cheetah and leopard
Taking those whom they could
Not even a pup was spared
Till the Lions
The lions were great
Crossing the Earth
Hearing our song long ago
They saved our kind
Exiled the Leopard
Drove off Cheetah
And with mighty claws slew Hyena
Lions came and asked for our song
For this trade we thanked them and sang
We sang of joy we sang of loss
We sang of life and they made the pact
They would save us from the others
If we but protected them with song
Aiya ya ya ya
Raise your voice to the heavens
Aiya ya ya ya
Sing for the children, the sick and the old
Aiya ya ya ya
Sing for your ancestors of old
