It was when Johnson was president. He pushed Congress to pass a Civil Rights Act which allowed all blacks to vote. And even through they got want they wanted, the blacks pushed for more. That's when a whole bunch of black rightists turned violent. CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), SNCC, and the Black Panthers turned to embrace an idea called Black Power.
In case you wanted to know, Stokely Carmichael was the leader of SNCC.

Oh. That's something that our teacher had left out when he taught us that in 8th grade.

Maybe it wasn't that important overall? Maybe he just wanted you to get the main idea without knowing the itty-bitty details.
