Whenever a rumor began in the pack, Stag Jump always had some part to play in its growth. Sometimes, he would be the one to start it, reporting on his findings about the mysterious strangers he saw out along the borders. Other times, he would overhear one from a pack mate and make sure that it circulated to everyone's ears, regardless of the rank they held, even Elders had to enjoy a bit of hot goss every now and then, right?

However, while others tended to duck their heads when it came to discussing the affairs of wolves that were not themselves, Stag Jump preferred to go a more direct route. If he ever had a rumor going on about him, he had thought one day, then he would want to get the truth out sooner than later. Thus, when he heard the latest about their Terran, Sundew Scion, he set it in his mind to go seek her out.

He started making his rounds within the camp, asking others if they knew where she was. Let them come up with their own notions about courting or some such, but sooner or later it was sure to get to Sundew that Stag was seeking her company. So if he didn't find her first, maybe she would come to him.

Stag Jump would be absolutely mistaken if he thought Sundew would look for anyone regarding the new rumor. New authoritative position or not, she was a soft child, a shy wolf who preferred if the spotlight had never been on her in the first place. The days of lamenting her forever bar from being a chronicler were long gone now, but she hadn't changed so much that he was comfortable with the Court's penchant for talk. She had been mostly fearful stuck on survival during the Troll occupation and had barely paid any attention while they had traveled. Now...Now it was back to putting her head in the sand whenever gossip was heard. She wanted no part, even as she knew she would eventually be targeted.

Sundew pretended she didn't hear the whispers or notice the looks. Somehow, that made things worse.

"Terran Sundew Scion, I believe Stag Jump is looking for you," someone said.

He would... "Please tell him I would be happy to see him and will be at my garden for a time," Sundew told them in return. Perhaps she heard the Elf mutter "won't even take the time to meet the lower folk," and perhaps she didn't.

Her garden was a small plot of land near the base of the mountains where her and the other elder dens were. Sundew and Snapdragon's most precious treasures taken in their flight had been seeds from the family garden, and the Terran had prayed that they would take root in this new land. So far the saplings look promising, though she worried and fussed at them as if they were her own children. Wet soil clung to her paws as she dug a new hole to transplant one. The work helped distract her.

Eventually word got back to Stag Jump that Sundew couldn't be bothered to talk to him on her own. He had a pleasant chitchat with the wolf who told him as much, exchanging words about how yes, it was hard to actually get someone so important to sit down and talk to you, but by golly, he was going to do it! So, after bidding his gossip companion a farewell, he set off towards Sundew's garden.

It wasn't hard to find when you knew where it was and Stag Jump made a point of knowing where everything and everyone was at any given time. So, practically leaping about to reach the base of the mountain where the elders dens rested and with it, Sundew's garden, he stopped a few feet away, panting.

"Hello, Terran Sundew Scion! May I call you Sundew?" He greeted her and then took a large breath. "I'm here to see how you're doing. Between being our only Terran and having all these dreadful things being said about you..." He came to sit beside her. "I can only imagine what you must be feel-Oh!" He'd never actually come this close to her garden before. He peered down at the plot of land and at the saplings that were growing there. "What sort of things are you growing?" He asked, momentarily distracted from the juicier tidbits he had been after originally.

The Terran paused in her digging as she heard the telltale signs of growth being enthusiastically trampled growing louder, putting on her polite smile as they met eyes. Stag Jump had never seemed to Sundew a malicious wolf, only one with an ear and a mouth for gossiping. Sometimes it was hard to distinguish the difference when it came to the Court. Nonetheless, she was no good at navigating talk and hoped whatever tidings he brought (or whatever he was looking for) wouldn't be tiresome to deal with.

Nodding (to his first question? in agreement with the rumors being dreadful?), Sundew then indicated with a dirty paw towards a small, weathered bag by one of the holes. She was more than happy to chat if it didn't pertain to work. "Snapdragon and I brought these from the Old Land," she explained. "They are from our parents' garden. Right now, I hope I can coax some life into these carnations so that come spring, their spicy scents might liven up my den. They are also popular gifts for young lovers. You might recall seeing Elves come and go from the conclave at times bearing these for someone close to the heart." Her smile was melancholic as she looked down at the hole and slid a seed in. "I knew an older warrior who had promised to bring an extra flower for every year with his mate. It had gotten to become quite a mouthful.

"But the past is not so much your interest, I think. My apologies." Sundew smoothed the dirt over the patch and turned to him fully. "My heart is glad to see you as lively as ever, Stag Jump. I admire anyone who can weather the changes we have with the same verve as you do."

For a brief moment, Stag Jump was struck speechless. A rare occurrence for the usual motor mouth. Coming up to stand beside the Terran, he looked down at the saplings.

"All the way from the Old Land..." He breathed. "And they're thriving here?" He asked, the rumors that surrounded her momentarily forgotten. "They... they won't die, will they?" He went on, his expression betraying his concern. Shifting from paw to paw while she went on, he smiled. "Yes, well! It's my job as a scout and recruiter to be, well, lively. I suspect that new army recruits wouldn't want to speak to a glum wolf or a boring wolf, you see. Easier to attract flies with honey than sap, you know." He went on, completely derailing from what he'd previously been talking about or why he'd sought her out in the first place.

"What was I... Oh yes! The rumors! About you! Have you heard of them yet?" He asked, remembering it at last.
