 "NO!" Dawnbreak kicked out in her nest her back paw colliding with her sister, scattering a feather collection the size that no cat should have. While her sister had been sleeping closer and closer to Dustfeather, and she had been trying to weasel her way in next to splitnose, last night she had collapsed next to her sister after a long day of searching for prey... she couldnt even call it hunting at his point... there was no prey... She had even seen one of those large carrion birds that wait till you collapse and then eat out your eyes... she had seen them devour prey before it was all gone.
She sat up with a hiss to the semi sleeping den. She jumped on Duskwing. "Wake up... You need to play medicine cat and tell me that everything is gonna be fine..." She looked worried, her blue eyes reflecting in the moonlight. She pawed her sister until the other she cat gave up sleeping and then she tipped her head to lead the way out into the camp. It was so quiet. She sat there, in the middle of camp looking up at the moon, waiting for her sister to join her. As soon as DuskWing was out she looked to her sister. "Just because im dreaming about birds eating my eyes out... doesnt mean im gonna die right?!"

 Duskwing is jolted out of her nice dream of catching a large hawk for the clan when she is pounced upon. "wha... MY FEATHERS!" She exclaims as they come raining down on her. She looked over at Dawnbreak's retreating back as she wandered out of the den. "Geeze someone got up on the wrong side of the nest this morning." She gets up and follows after her sister. "Play medicine cat huh, So whats the issue dear nest-mate of mine?"
She was stuck in place at the words that her sister said. She slumped into a sitting position trying to figure out just what her panicked sister meant. "Sooo, Birds, eating your eyes.... OK Lets break it down further." She lost the birdy puns as she got serious, she never did like joking around when it came to her siblings when they were stressed. "Alright take me through it step by step. It could be something minor or it could be Sunclan giving guidance." She sat patiently waiting for her sister to recite the full dream as there had to be more to it than just birds and eyes being eaten.

Sunclan knew that the clan could use that hawk. She just waved her sisters frantic tone off. They were just feathers, yes she knew how much they meant to duskwing, but th she cat would enjoy reorganizing them probably anyway. She fluffed her fur out and then gave Duskwing a look that said she was serious. She nodded. "I think im dying thats the issue..."
"Not just anybirds... Those big ones that rip apart the dead animals!! I saw some a few days ago...." She nodded flicking her tail, noting that her sister had her serious face on. "So i was hunting... but then you know when you are being stalked and all your fur stands up... i got that feeling.. and then... this giant bird swooped down and started pecking at me... i couldnt get away and then it ripped out my eyes and i was falling into darkness and then i woke up.... " It wasnt a long dream... just traumatic... It definitely wasnt sunclan, though there was no way to know for sure....more of her just spreading her doom and gloom from seeing the bird before. But she wasnt being reasonable right now. Not waiting for her sisters analysis she stood up. "Do you think i should go hunt down one of those birds?!" She nodded slowly. "That would make sense... they cant eat me if i eat them first right!? Will you come with me?!"

She nodded at the explanation her sister gave her. This was as strange of dream, but not too unrealistic, like some her sister had at times. "Ok so you saw the Rot-Eaters, and then had this dream?" She watched Dawnbreak for confirmation, but her sister was too far in her own head to hear the question. She shook her head and tried to keep talking in hopes of being heard, it wasn't likely when her sister gets like this. "Well I can tell you right now they don't usually hunt live prey[. I've never seen them hunt us, but I suppose times are desperate, so it could happen should a cat be weak enough. I can tell you right now it doesn't mean you are dying, just that you've had a very scary dream about a bird you don't understand all that well." She tried to make it clear that not everything in her dream is as it seemed. Now if the bird had been an eagle, or hawk, then she'd be worrying for the entire clan. She watched as her words fell on the deaf ears of her scared sister. She sighed as her sister stood up and started ranting about hunting the carrion birds before they hunted her.
When Dawnbreak finally looked at her, Duskwing just nodded and said. "What kind of bird hunter would I be if I let you go off and get hurt trying to tree-walk? Of course I'll help." She grinned even as she was privately thinking of how they could actually track the birds, as the rot-eaters weren't like the active hunters, or the peaceful seed eaters. It wouldn't be easy as they were literally looking for death, to be used as bait for the large birds.
"Its not going to be pretty finding them. We're going to see a lot of their gross behaviors as well as their actual feeding habits. I'm not going to lie to you, they are much bigger the closer you get." She spoke as she started off towards the forest thinking her silent prayer to Sunclan for safety and good hunting. She had gotten curious as an apprentice and had gone to find the rot-eaters to study them to see if they would be easy to catch, and had gotten more than she had bargained for as the birds didn't even seem to care that she approached them closely while they were feasting on a pitiful rabbit that had died from some unknown cause. It was an experience that had made her want to study other types of birds to see if she could use their feeding habits against them.

Dawnbreak was known to have wild adventures in her dreams, not one had ever come true... and none ever involved sunshine cats, but she did have some out there ones. She once dreamed of flying... she was sure her sister had been jealous when she told her about that dream. "USUALLY?!" So this could be the one dream that came true... now what was she supposed to do? She seemed to calm a bit though. With her sister on board she purred and pressed against her sister. "Thanks Duskwing! So where do the rot eaters sleep... " It was still night and she wasnt going back to sleep until she had caught one of the foul birds and killed it for its intrusion into her sleep.
She listened and then nodded. "We can take them if we work together.... So i just need an 'its possible' and we can be on our way!" But her sister was already off so possible be damned they were going. Dawnbreak trotted along and came up to walk beside her sister while letting her lead. "I saw the one on the north peak but im sure that he is long gone by now...."

Duskwing purred back at Dawnbreak when she rubbed their sides together. She was happy that her sister had lost some of her terror since the talk. She huffed a tiny laugh at her sister's question of when they slept. She thought it was nice that Dawnbreak thought she knew all the answers, but not even she knew every thing about every bird like creature.
As they walked she thought to herself keeping mostly quiet as she thought about where to find them. Her ears perked up when Dawnbreak mentioned the north peak. "The rot eater you saw, was it circling in one spot? She had already corrected her movement to head in that direction. "When they circle they generally have an eye on a rotting rabbit or something.
She paused walking and looked up at the trees. Dawnbreak, we'd have better luck at getting the surprise on the rot eaters treewalking. She knew her sister knew what she was referring to. She had come back to the den scuffed up, but not hurt and told her siblings about treewalking and watching the birds, she knew her older brother and sister probably set in their own ways didn't even want to try treewalking, but Dawnbreak had never given her a direct yes or no. She looked directly at Dawnbreak waiting to see what she'd say.

If it had wings... Dawnbreak would take anything Duskwing said as law... Owls only had one leg... sure... she had seen some with two but if Duskwing said it was so, apparently they had a strain of mutant owls running around.... well hopping...
She shook her head, "It was pulling something apart on the ground but i did see some birds circling a bit... i mean... I thought they were hawks or something... they were pretty high up!" She nodded, pausing she frowned. "Why would anything eat something Rotten..."
Dawnbreak trotted to catch back up. She looked to the trees. "Ok... lets do it... but if i die its your fault." She found a tree, limbs high up and ran up the trunk. She clung. And then she slowly slid back down her claws digging rivets in the bark. She flicked her tail. "Yep... ok... You first..." She flicked her tail as she tried to rid the bark from under her claws. She watched her sister... peeved that she couldnt just magically climb trees...

Duskwing nodded at the added information. "They eat it because they don't really have strong enough talons to catch and hold prey is my guess on the matter."
She watched as Dawnbreak went to climb the tree only to make no progress in climbing, Duskwing would have laughed at her, but she knew that would only upset her more. "You might want to try a different tree." She walked over towards a tree with broken branch nubs closer to the ground than the one Dawnbreak had tried to climb. "Its all about finding a catch hold"
She crouched down and lunged at the tree as high as she could with claws extended. Once she was hooked in the tree she moved one paw at a time towards one of the broken nubs to place her back feet on it. She jumped to a higher broken nub then on to a full branch. She looked down at Dawnbreak from above. "Now see if you can try for that broken branch catch hold there" she gestured with her head and left front paw for the lowest broken branch nub.
