Being on the island was terrifying.
Being in a place that was meant for humans - or more accurately, hunters - was downright terrifying, if he was being completely honest with himself. Vaudrey had never felt so incredibly tiny and completely helpless in his entire life, and this was including the rather large and powerful sphinx-gryphon household he had grown up in. He remembered clearly a dinner one evening that had gotten almost the entire family together, and Vaudrey had been one of the youngest. He still was, technically, at least of one generation of children, but since the older generation was starting to have children of their own now, and Ren had left the family, well...
Focus, Vaudrey.
He didn't want to focus. He didn't want to think about how completely vulnerable he felt here on the island, Vaudrey slinking cautiously through the darkened hallways until he figured out where he was. It looked like a sickbay of sorts; a wide expanse of a room with curtained off sections that appeared to have empty beds behind them, probably for people who were sick or dying or maybe some combination of both.
That was kind of creepy. Vaudrey moved quietly down one row of beds and nearly leapt out of his skin as something moved in the yellowish light of the room, rising up out of a corner like some horrific apparition. Vaudrey gave a yelp and scrambled backwards, gasping, thrusting out a clawed hand in an effort to keep them from coming to close.
"Don't touch me!"

He did a whopping nothing to the things that were coming to him. Vaudrey hastily darted towards one of the curtained off areas, scrambling to find a place to hide, but there was really no point. He couldn't spend all of his time hiding, after all, and Ren would have been appalled to learn that his cousin was being cowardly.
He had to be strong. He had to be brave.
He had to not get his foot stuck in a bedpan like he'd just done, Vaudrey trying to shake it off, prying it with his other foot until it came loose and went skittering across the infirmary floor. Vaudrey snatched it up and lobbed it at the things crawling towards him, then made a break for one of the closed doors, yanking on it in an attempt to figure out if it was more than just a closet.

It was, in fact, a closet.
But a closet that held an assortment of things that could possibly be used to defend himself, at the very least. Vaudrey sorted through all of the miscellaneous items and then grabbed up a broom, swinging around and jabbing it towards the thing that was still following him.
"Get away!" he said sternly, and was relieved to hear that his voice didn't shake at all. "Get away or I'll - "
He had no real verbal ending to that sentence, so Vaudrey settled for just thwacking it against the creatures as hard as he could.

The broom was not nearly as effective as the bedpan had been, which was disappointing, but felt accurate in a sad sort of way. Vaudrey dropped it and rummaged around for something else, finally coming up with a mop - which was almost identical to the broom, but the heads were different.
He swung it like a bat in the hopes that maybe that would do something.

The mop was better than the broom, Vaudrey decided. He needed a new position, though, because if he kept standing by the closet, he was bound to get overwhelmed eventually, especially because it was against a corner of a wall and that was a bad idea.
Vaudrey lurched over a nearby bed, slipping ungracefully over the cheap sheets and almost falling flat on his face on the other side.
"Away! Away, I tell you!" he yelped, as he felt a hand on his ankle - or maybe it was a cord - either way something was holding on too painfully hard, Vaudrey waving the mop around like a wand and hoping that he actually hit something in the process.

Over one bed and onto another. Vaudrey felt like he was playing some twisted game of "The floor is minpet droppings," trying to keep away from the things that were following him and mostly failing to look graceful while doing that.
At least he wasn't dead or dissipated yet. That was always a bonus.

Was there ever going to be an end to this?
Vaudrey very much doubted that.

Apparently his last swing of the mop had managed to knock back the Jacking things than he'd thought. Vaudrey felt mightily pleased with himself as he scrambled up and out of the infirmary, finally finding the door that led out of it with a certain amount of relief.

Behind the mirror is none other than the Amityville Academy as it actually should have been. It confirms that you are trapped within this dream, as you look closer to the mirror. Examining it reveals it is just a mirror, and shattering it well-
- After a while it rebuilds itself. You are stuck here.
The mirror shifts. You can see that the school turn into a massive cage, larger than you've ever seen. How did you get here? What is this cage? You can't see anything but the cage on the other side.

Vaudrey was pretty sure that he didn't trust the mirror as far as he could throw it - which would probably not have been very far, because he hadn't been able to throw the bedpan very far, let alone a large, ornate mirror that was almost the same height as himself.
But he could see Amityville there. He could see his school, the first place he had ever felt warm and welcome and at home. He could see the main gates, achingly familiar, and the windows and the dormitories and the giant cage that was rising to wrap around it like chains -
- a cage?
Vaudrey dropped the mop and pressed both hands to the mirror's surface, staring longingly in at the scene, ineffectively trying to meld through into it, as though somehow he might be able to melt through the glass and come out on the other side to Amityville.
It didn't work.
He wanted to go back. He didn't want to be here, in this strange and scary place. He wanted to be back at his dorm, back with his minipets, back with his friends, as small and few as they might have been. He wanted to be everywhere all at once.
Everywhere that was not here. And what was that cage? What was that all about?
He didn't know. He didn't understand anything.
Let me go home.
