Yes, I've made one thread before. In the picture post section or something...but yeah. I wanted critique, I got compliments. I was then directed to you. I've been told you're harsh, but I see you're just honest, I want critiques on a handful of little things I have scans of. All I ask is that you bear in mind that I had a low quality scanner, thus, low quality scans. However, please tell me any improvements I can make, or anything about my style that I can change.

Not my true feelings, this was a commission for someone I vaguely knew.

Hearts I drew for a friend, I know I could've done better with it. I changed media from pen to pancil after starting.

Another gift, this one was done in a hurry, since the recipient was moving, and you can see the crude work on the lame blue flames.(cheap blue pen =P)

Unfinished, was supposed to be a mother's day gift, but my friends cat started to chew on it while I was away, and now it is dead. =(

hmm.

not many artfags are into abstracted patterns or nearly anything that is not based on or around the human figure, so this is interesting.
i think that these definitely have some graphical merits- there's some very interesting and appealing organic form going on here, but that is about all i can say for it.
i think that the textual elements seem a little neglected compared to the patterns, and if you're going to include text you'll want to pay some more attention to it- "deeper i dove into sorrow," for instance, i could barely make out as words, and i'm only fairly sure that those are words at all on the one with the cross. i do think that text is a good thing to include in art like this, but if i were you i would take a look at sixties and seventies psychedelic pop/text/graffiti art.

these would also be great in media other than pencil or pen- pencil specifically gets kind of sloppy with highly graphic patterns. these would look good as paintings, maybe, if you have access to acrylic paint or something.

Yes, I know, The smile one wasn't nearly finished, it was a recent one, I had realized that the words were kind of...illegible in previous works. Like the one with the heart and words, "Deeper I Delve Into Sorrow" it says, but that's alright, I'm not doing words anymore unless I have a good feeling about them. The one with the cross say something like..."Overwhelmed by darkness." It was meant to be there as a joke. You see, the person I drew it for is a very religous person, and I didn't like them very much in the first place. I was sort of mocking them. It's written in some text I found online, unfortunately, I lost it. I really like the way it looks...those letters I mean.

And recently I've done 2 paintings, one in acyrlics, and the other in oils. I just don't have a camera, a scanner, or anything to transfer images...Soo, we'll just have to wait to get those online.
Also, my girlfriend and I have been working something with that 70's psychedelic feel to it. I'll take a picture of it as soon as I can, and it'll come up with the 2 paintings.

Was the first one bubbling up because of the scanner or from pressing too hard onto the paper? Because the wrinkled effect looks pretty bad, but then again it could have just been the way it scanned.

When drawing in pen you should always use good quality pens or you get the shotty scratchy effect, inkier ones are easier to work with : p I myself draw with pen&ink mainly, so I know investing in something good is worth it : ) You can get really nice pens to work with that you just buy re-fills for, which is good because then your always working with the same thing and you get used to it, I find if you buy lots of different types of pens its harder to get the feel of a certain type.

I think some of the designs are a bit cheesy/kitsch, but I do like the circle/web shape on the last picture and the red heart on the first.

p.s- Glad to see someone else around here draw with pen+do more abstracted designs mrgreen Although mine are slightly less geometrical.

Oh and I do love the 60's-70's feel of your drawings.

Anyways I am just kind of rambling sorry. Not sure if any of whut I said is helpful, but just my thoughts nevertheless.

I would suggest putting down the gel pens altogether. They are really easily smudged and you can get the colours you want for a little bit more money and time.
Your style is funky but I can see the bubbling and scratching on the page.

The bottom circle reminds me of a butterfly's wing, it's very swish. I also like the bottom half and background of the top picture.

Will you come back and see us sometime with more?

Yeah, sure, I'll come back with more. =)

And no, the bubbling wasn't from pen pushing, it was from that horrible scanner. Heated things up like an oven. Over the inch of plastic covering the actual scanner, you could feel the heat as the light passed under D=

The pens and pencils make the colors all dusty and boring-like. I like the designs, tho.

I do like the style you've got going on, but it lacks some impact. If you polished them up some, and applied some smoother inks and colors I think you'd really have something there.

I prefer the unedited one. The radial blur really takes away from one of the things I like about your work; the deeply distracting detail.

I do like how it looks with color. I would want to see what sort of things you do in the future, it looks like you have interesting potential.

Latrans is my beautiful, brilliant girlfriend. I know this isn't a bragging board, but this seems like the best place to say it, it is my thread and all, not to mention the artwork is hers as well. Well above 60 hearts, I never want to lose her...
