Legend |
The story of how gryphons lost their wings has been passed down before the written languages had been established. Most gryphons still accept the story as fact of how they lost their wings. Some gryphons take pride that their kind had the humility to sacrifice such a great gift. Other gryphons resent the story and question if giving up such a gift was really worth their pride. There are also those gryphons who don't take the story so literal and question whether or not their kind had wings in the first place.
The point being that there are a variety of ways gryphons have reacted to the legend and possibly flocks who have established them selves based on certain beliefs. There will be no right answer that is clear.
Aging |
Aging affects every Gryphon differently. For the most part, like most birds, it will be very hard to tell an older Gryphon from a young adult Gryphon physically.
Death is not something you have to worry about unless you decide you want to kill your gryphon off. Some Gryphons may age faster than others. Some Gryphons may die from old age. Some Gryphons may get certain sickness with old age. This and more is up to you.
Food |
Gryphons are Omnivores so they don't have any limitations on what they can eat unless you give them an allergy.
Gryphons do hunt but they also farm and keep live stock in some cases. Some gryphons prefer the feral life while others prefer something more 'civilized'. Depends on the Gryphon.
Living Conditions |
Gryphons can live any where from a cave to a hut. Some Gryphons just don't believe in living in a hut while others cringe at the idea of sleeping in the wild. This is up to the Gryphons preference.
Hierarchy |
For the most part Gryphons aren't pack or pride animals. They are flock minded. That means there are no real Alpha's or Omega's. This means that any Gryphon is able to lead a group and the group won't always blindly follow. There tends to be SEVERAL leaders in a flock instead of just one true leader. Our wingless Gryphons think much more like birds than they do mammals.
Gryphons do tend to want to be close to other Gryphons subconsciously. They are very rarely loners. This doesn't mean that they are all super social, but it does mean they have a need for interaction here and there.
Gender Roles |
This varies from Gryphon to Gryphon. Some Gryphons may see males as superior and females as inferior and the reverse can be true as well. There are no established gender roles unless your Gryphon is part of a flock which has established such roles.
Relationships |
Life Mating |
Life mating can happen between any gender, however, only male and female couples may produce offspring through breeding while same sex couples can adopt.
Life mating means that the pair does mate for life and isn't to be taken lightly when the agreement is made. Gryphon kind tend to take more after birds than lions in this sense.
Families |
Every family unit is different but what does overlap in all is that at least one of the parents needs to be around the newborn at all times as they can not survive on their own.
Hoarding |
It is actually very common for Gryphons to be hoarders. They tend to like shiny things the most even if the object is a piece of junk. Some Gryphons may only collect treasures and rare things while others collect whatever they can get their paw/claws on.
It is also very common for Gryphons to store their hoards of stuff some where and then forget about it. So it is very likely that every once and a while another Gryphon may stumble upon a stash and start to add on to this stash.
Gryphons also like to use junk and shiny objects for setting up their personal nests.
