Banner image goes here Hello hello! Sho and Zaire have become parents for the very first time. Godling babies are pretty big, and these two will have their hands full! Yushika and I will do our best to help them out, but we're going to need a third person!
Starts: TBA Ends: TBA
Rules ☀ In the spirit of sharing the divine love around, only people who do not own a god or goddess may enter. ☽ This couple is really, really important to myself and Yushika, and we want the bowl to go to someone who will be around. We understand that RL emergencies can happen, but please just be sure that you plan to stick around Gaia and TLN for the foreseeable future before you enter! ☀ Be mature. No discouraging others from entering, no sore loser behavior if you don't win, no whining about the god-newbies only rule. ☽ Don't mess with the form, and be sure to fill the whole thing out. You can edit your entry up 'til the contest closes, but if you don't have it finished it'll be disqualified. ☀ No proxies or giving the bowl away. Seriously, why would you even?

Meet your family
Sho Your father God of Flutes Powers: Sho can play every kind of flute there is and can coax the sweetest melodies from even the roughest of flutes. He can make a flute out of almost anything, including magic, and thus can make instruments specially attuned to specific individuals.
About: Sho was abandoned as a bowl and has no idea who his birth parents are. He spent most of his earliest days in an orphanage where he was shunned by the other children for his size and strangeness, and passed over by the adults who didn't want to risk the anger of gods in case the godling had been stolen. He spent most of his time making flutes and playing the same few notes over and over. Then one day he met Nightingale, a painfully shy Noodle with an enchanting voice, who had heard Sho playing and offered to teach him how to read sheet music so he could learn to play different songs. The two bonded instantly and Nightingale ended up adopting Sho. Though he had eventually found a loving family, his time in the orphanage left it's mark on Sho. He once hated his unknown parents for abandoning him, though he has since become merely resentful and even that is fading. The rejection of the other kits and adults, having to spend so much time on his own, has made him very reluctant to show his feelings to anyone and also causes him to harbor doubts about whether or not he was defective, a freak. A storm of negative emotions raged in the heart of the god, and besides the most immediate of his adoptive family and very young children he trusted no one. Just seeing another god or goddess used to make him upset. There's no telling of far he went on his downward-spiral of self-doubt before he met Zaire, but it's clear the influence she's had on him. While he will never be an effusive ball of sunshine he has at last found peace in his heart and a safe harbor from the storm. He's mostly quiet, has a sarcastic wit paired with a dry sense of humor, and is intensely protective of those he cares about. His fellow orphans in that orphanage aside, Sho has always liked children, even at his most depressed, and has often chatted with bowls or served as a living playground or bed for kits. He will positively adore his babies, turning into an animated and playful creature with an endless amount of patience. Protective doesn't even begin to cover his feelings towards his children. It's also a good thing he has Zaire, otherwise they would become spoiled rotten; it'll be next to impossible for Sho to deny his children anything they want. -img here- This is the bowl you're entering for! It's a GENDER, 2nd generation, and needs a good, loving home!
☀ Naming There are no naming themes or last names for this family. Just nothing too crazy please!
☽ Powers Your bowl is a god/dess, so naturally they're going to have their own domain and powers. Please keep in mind that his/her parent's domains (Flutes and Stability) when choosing your own domain. Be sure to check the Gods and Cosplays thread to make sure the domain you have in mind isn't taken.
☀ Some information Your mother and uncle are two forces of a whole, yin and yang, and in the most literal sense they need each other to survive. It's not just a matter of existing on the same planet together; they will die if separated for more than 3 days. You all live on a beach, as it is the most balanced place they have found where they can both be comfortable. Your adoptive family lives at least a full-day's flight away so you won't get to visit very often (your great-grandma has an especially beautiful and fun-to-play-in garden), but most of them have wings and don't mind dropping by for a visit. IC-ly speaking, the family members you'll see the most of are Sho's father, Nightingale, his mate, Marduk, and their children, Anuket, Grannus, and Nephthys, who are about the same age as these bowls and (again, IC) will still be kits when the godlings first crawl out of their own bowls.
Prompts
1.) Your mother and uncle have a unique bond. In fact it might be fair to say that no matter how much she loves her mate and children, Zaire's brother will always be the one she is closest to. How does this affect you? Are you jealous of your uncle? Does your child only see a strong sibling bond, or do they realize it runs deeper than that? 2.) Your father was abandoned as a bowl, but was eventually adopted by Nightingale and grew up with a rather cheerful family. While Sho doesn't think about it anymore, your child won't be able to miss the fact that their family is barely any bigger than they themselves, and look downright tiny next to Sho, Zaire, and Adien. Not to mention how their bright, cheery colors stand out next to Sho's snowy white fur. What does your child make of this? Do they ever wonder whether their family is actually related to them? Does it change how they feel about their family? Do they keep all these observations inside, or do they ask around to try and figure it all out? 3.) Something sibling-oriented here 4.) You're a god/dess, so that means you have a domain. Each deity has a different domain, and equally different are the ways in which they discover them. What is your domain, and how did you discover it? Have you always known it instinctively, or did you have to search to figure it out. Did anyone have to help you along? How does knowing what your domain is affect your life, if it even does at all?

Post 2
Alright ya'll, let's get down to brass tacks! See these two lovely ladies? Well they're twins. The younger of the two (right) is owned by myself. You'll be entering for the older twin (left). Let me tell you how!
★ There's a naming theme; stars. The name has to somehow involve stars. Doesn't matter if it's a galaxy, constellation, individual star, or a mythical character who has a star or constellation named after them. Whatever you can think of! There just has to be stars involved. ☆ Since the girls are twins, tradition follows their names be similar. There's plenty of ways to apply this. They can sound similar, be two different names for the same thing, or be set names (i.e. both named after a galaxy, a star, a constellation, etc.). They can be named after stars or galaxies found near each other, stars found in the same galaxy, or stars found in the same constellation. As long as you can find a connection, it works! ★ Now here's the catch. I don't want to name my girl, because to do so would restrict the names available to you. Therefore, you are going to find a name for my girl. That's right, you'll be naming both of the twins!
That's pretty much all there is to it! Let me just take you over a few things, introduce you to the family, and I'll let you get started!
Just to reiterate, the names must be star-themed. No planets or other space-themed names. Only stars and star-related names. These bowls are 2nd gen, and will have the last name of Starbright. Your bowl is the only one who will not be transparent. Be sure to fill out the entire form or your entry won't be counted! Details are very, very much loved, but don't worry about straining to think some up if all you have at the moment is a vague idea. You can always edit in new ideas later. Family is listed in the spoiler directly below, so don't forget to read up on them!
Meet the family!
★ Starlight Starbright ★ Father Starlight is a laid-back, relaxed, totally chill guy. He's not stoned or on any other kind of hallucinogen, but it might take several chats with him before you believe that. It's like a hippie and a surfer got together to spawn him. He's go-with-the-flow, both profoundly deep and a total nutcase rolled into one. Overly serious types will probably loathe him on the spot for his eternally casual attitude. He's a kind person and very accepting of just about everyone. He's always willing to sit down for a chat with anyone, if you can put up with his bizarreness. Though his manner is somewhat blunt and tactless, he is a pacifist and doesn't like getting drawn into fights. Not that you can't piss him off and cause him to have a go at you (he's got a line just like everyone else), but this only tends to be in defense of others. Starlight likes to roam and doesn't stick to a single place for a very long time, and though he likes people and never forgets a name or face there aren't many he's particularly close to. Behind that spacey exterior there is a very keen mind, which can come as a surprise to those who make the mistake of thinking he's simply addled. Since meeting Sarah, a wanderer in her own right though not roaming as far, Starlight has settled down a bit. He still can't seem to stay in one place for long and constantly drifts, but now he has a place he can call home and he keeps his wandering feet closer to it. As a dad there's really very little discipline here. He's going to encourage his kids in whatever comes to mind, and might even collaborate or provide inspiration. They'll learn a lot from him though, about surviving just about anywhere in any weather, and how to sit back and enjoy life rather than stressing out. ☆ Sarah ☆ Mother Will add things here later ☆ ??? Starbright ☆ Brother Will add things here later ☆ ??? Starbright ☆ Sister Will add things here later ★ Sirius Starbright ★ Adoptive brother Will add things here later ☆ James ☆ Uncle Your uncle has a bit of a temper and doesn't much like people, aside from family. He's fiercely protective of his twin sister.

Username: jinxgirl5 Bowl Name: Himura Ryota Bloodfire Personality: Ryota is a quiet guy who likes to observe. He looks at things and thinks of their potential, all the various ways they could be used. He especially loves to watch something being made, how something can take shape out of bits and pieces and time. Sometimes he watches people, but only when they're doing something. He likes to watch people cooking, dancing, being active, creating. People-watching for the sake of the people themselves doesn't hold much of a draw for him. - - Ryota loves trying things out. He's kind of a dabbler, wanting to try a little bit of everything. He can become insanely proud of himself any time he achieves a new bit of skill or is praised for doing well, though he'll be the first to admit that he's not good at everything he tries. A lot of it is just for fun so he's okay with only having a passable grasp at achieving something, but when it comes to his passions he'll push himself hard to do better and become better. - - Though he's quiet most of the time, Ryota is pretty friendly and can be really sweet. He loves to clown around and have a good time, especially with his big brothers, and he's been known to tease others on occasion. He's not the type to overindulge though, and can actually be counted on to be the sober friend when out at clubs. He's more likely to encourage others than to step into the spotlight himself. - - As a child, Ryota is likely to be a ball of happy. He'll be following someone, either a parent or a brother, around almost all of the time. He's really good at listening when he's told what to do or not to do, though he's not above a bit of mischief.
(optional prompt) I wanna apologize if I created an incorrect setting or misused Reiko or Frezir in these! Poke at me if you'd like me to alter something.
With Mom
- - Ryota was still so small that he feet didn't touch the ground when he sat on one of the benches that bordered the big open space the adults called the "practice grounds". He kicked his little feet in the air as he contemplated the terrain before him a bit wistfully. Children weren't allowed to play here. The adults said it was because it was he could get badly hurt. Everyone said Ryota was a good boy, so as much as he wanted to run around and climb things he had to be good and stay put. - - To distract himself Ryota turned his eyes to his mother, currently running through the course. She was up high, on the wooden poles, and hopping all over the place. It was really hard to see where she was going, she was moving so fast! Mama told him it was something called "agility", and that it helped her to move around better. It must work really well, cause Mama was the fastest person he'd ever seen! - - Ryota's feet kicked faster and faster through the air as he watched his mother. Would he ever be as fast as Mama was, or as good at jumping? She never fell, never seemed to place a foot wrong! By the time Reiko was done with the exercise and looking around for Ryota, he was leaning forward on his seat, practically vibrating with excitement. Reiko smiled and called Ryota over. He leapt up and and dashed over, feeling a distinct thrill as he entered the practice grounds. Mama took him over to a spot where the younger kids practiced, showing him how to jump up on the wide rounds of wood and the best way to jump from round to round. Ryota wasn't very fast and he fell down a lot, but each time he got back up and kept at it. He wouldn't get to be as good as Mama if he didn't keep trying! Mama stayed with him, correcting him if he stood wrong or didn't land quite right. Finally they had to stop when Ryota''s legs, unaccustomed to the exercise, began to tremble and didn't want to hold him. But, despite his legs, Ryota was happy, so very happy! Then the best part of his day. Mama smiled, and told him he'd done very well. Ryota thought he might burst with pride, and even though his legs were tired he had never felt so light!
With Dad
- - Ryota breathed in the familiar scents of wood, metal, and oil. Dad's motorcycle was on one side of the garage, near the doors. The rest of the space was filled with tables, the walls covered with boards from which hung tools, the tables themselves usually holding bits and pieces of a project in varying stages of completion. To Ryota this was a place of magic, where things came in broken and came out working as good or even better than before. New things appeared on the tables all the time, some strange, some that weren't to be touched, and some that were amazing to play with. - - There were rules to this place. The first was that Ryota and his brothers weren't to enter the workshop unless Dad was with them. The second was that they weren't to touch anything, not unless they asked first. Ryota followed these rules strictly, not wanting to be barred from such place full of wonder, but it didn't stop his hands from itching with longing when he saw something he particularly wanted to pick up and examine. - - Dad was with him now, of course, working on his motorcycle. Ryota wasn't sure what he was doing, it seemed to involve a lot of twisting various bits of metal and wiping things with a rag. He turned his attention from the tables to watch. There were so many tiny pieces that made up such a big machine, now that he really looked. How did Dad know what was supposed to go where? It was fascinating, more evidence of magic in Ryota's eyes. Dad looked up and noticed him watching. He grinned and gestured for Ryota to come closer. Ryota went right up to the bike and squatted down next to Dad, staring at the shiny metal and not daring to touch lest he break something. He didn't know how long the two of them sat there, working on the motorcycle. Dad pointed to different things, telling Ryota what they were and what they did. Ryota nodded, his face scrunched in concentration as he tried his best to remember. He even got to hold tools for Dad, and a few of the little round parts called a "nut"! Finally they called it a day and went back to the house to wash up, for Ryota was as covered in grease as Frezir was! And when Dad ruffled his hair and thanked him for his help, well... Ryota couldn't help but puff out his chest a bit in pride, grinning from ear to ear in happiness.

Wylie x Wild bowl contest
Post 1:
Wylie and Wild would like to welcome three lovely bowls into the world! If you're interested in owning your own little bundle of joy, check below for details.
Starts: TBA Ends: TBA
Post 2:
( GENDER, OLDESTMIDDLEYOUNGEST )
So what's up?
Anyone may enter. No guilt-tripping or discouraging others. If you don't win, be a good sport about it. Fill out the entire form or your entry won't be counted. No proxies allowed. There is no specific naming theme for the first name. Last name is Green. The last name Card will not be passed on, to avoid any awkwardness. Prefixes are allowed if you really want to use one (Mr., Ms.) The bowls are 2nd Gen.
Family
Mr. Wylie Morgan Green Mr. Green is proud, a tad snobbish, and can come off as arrogant in certain situations. He has a high opinion of himself, his family, and the family name he's attached to. He has no problem dropping the name of his very rich grandmother. He's also not the most ethical of characters. He has a successful financial adviser business and skims from his clients to pad his own pockets. After Grandma's murder Mr. Green has become quite paranoid so he can be a bit jumpy at times. He's built a large wall around his home, and he carries his knife everywhere with him. It's become a habit to pull his knife on anyone or anything that startles him. Don't sneak up on him, you take your life in your own hands if you do. Wild Draw Card Wild Draw has an energetic and fun-loving shell wrapped around a sweet and caring core. She's always trying new things and keeping active, with a slightly disturbing disregard for caution. She keeps an open mind and rolls with what she's given, so in the end she seems to manage to have a good time no matter what happens. She's very friendly and just a bit nosy, and loves trying to help people with their problems. This can be a double-edged blade, however. Sure, she practically bubbles with optimism and energy and doesn't give up easily, but she's also a little reckless and not much given to planning. Her "help" could just as easily make things worse as fix them. Thankfully things usually work themselves out, and it's been a while since her last mistake. As a mom Wild Draw's a total sweetheart and up for just about anything. She's an odd mix of mother and best friend; she doesn't use discipline too very often, but when she does she means it! She loves snuggling and will encourage her kids to explore the world. Dual Card, Deuce Card, Sieben Card, Sudali Card Your half-siblings. Wild keeps in touch, but she doesn't see her kids too very often. Sudali has kids of her own, but it seems like none of the boys have children yet.

Post 2:
Family Time!
Zenzi( Mother; Owned by jinxgirl5 ) Zenzi was born from a plushie. She's had a lot of time to get used to life as a Noodle, but she can still be called eccentric at time. She's fascinated with the very concept of life and doesn't easily lose her wonder of the new or extraordinary. The cycle of life and how things affect one another, the relationship of everything in the world... She's never bored with it. Honestly she could sit and watch grass grow and not be bored. She loves experiencing new things and brings all her energy to the task at hand, but she's not the daredevil type. She's very sweet and always willing to give a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen to troubles. She's both wise and naive in turns, with a simple view that's almost childlike in its directness.
Zenzi is ecstatic about the bowls. She will have to be reminded to eat most likely, for she will sit there and just watch them all day if she's left on her own. She will be just as involved when they're kits, wanting to share everything she's discovered in the world with them. A love of food is included in this; there is literally no treat she wouldn't buy for the kits (and herself and Zell) to try. She's not used to discipline or schedules so her parenting might be a bit chaotic, but she knows how to keep the kids out of danger and will be a most loving mother to them. Zell( Father; Owned by Yushika ) Zell sticks up for what he believes in no matter the size of his opponent or whom it may be. Loud and energetic, Zell has been caught training in the mornings and running about in the afternoon and night, rarely seen sleeping. He fights for fun, using only his hands and feet and has become a master in hand to hand combat due to this. He tends to use his fists when his words do not work in troublesome situations. He defends those weak or female, believing you should never harm children, weaker opponents, or females. Zell is over-protective of children and has been known to baby them beyond belief, boy or girl. It's best to keep your child away if you wish for them to grow up strong and able to function for themselves... or at least slap his wrist when he gives them their every desire.
He is over-confident in his abilities, taking on those stronger than him at times and returning with bruises, only to grit his teeth and train harder to attempt to battle them again. He also over-reacts when teased.. He wants to be friends with anyone and everyone, often going out of his way to hang out with people or make their life happier. He loves to explore and he loves his food. He's lucky he has a fast metabolism... Also, be careful with shiny things~ Zell loves any sparkly and will probably run off with it, yelling about its shine, forgetting he had it, and ending up keeping it. That is Zell for you~
With bowls of his own now he's a bundle of emotions. Excited. Nervous. Sad. He wishes his mother could have been here to meet her grandchildren. The loss still pains him, but he also believes he's ready to move forward and become a parent himself. He's taking a break from boxing, to help raise the children and also because he doesn't want his kids seeing their dad get beat up while they're still young. Name( Sibling; Owned by person ) Things about Name go here Name( Sibling; Owned by person ) Things about Name go here Name( Sibling; Owned by person ) Things about Name go here Bubbles( Zenzi's familiar ) Bubbles is quite chill, to the point of seeming lethargic. She's used to following Zenzi around on her adventures and is a willing enough participant when need be, but she much prefers to sit on the sidelines and just keep an eye on things.
Bubbles will be a bit wary of the kits at first since she expects them to be rambunctious and full of energy, two things which she very much lacks. She'll warm up soon enough though, and while she's not much of a game companion she's usually a nearby presence and a pretty good pillow for a nap.

Let's meet the bowls! ( Gender, Age ) ( Gender, Age )
Quick recap! These bowls are 2nd Gen There is no last name There is no naming theme Neither parent has magic or any inheritable skills
Prompts!
Your mom wasn't actually born from a bowl. She was a plushie that was brought to life. ( So was your dad, actually, but for IC reasons we're going to say he wasn't. ) How does this affect your view of your mother, if at all. Or do you think Zenzi is just pulling your leg? Zell is a boxer by profession. He's given up on fighting for now so his kids don't have to go through watching their dad getting bloodied, but he'll still probably get into fights here or there. Eventually they'll learn just what it is he's training for. How does the kit view this? Does it scare them? Do they admire their dad for his fighting? Both of your parents love to eat. Zell consumes large portions, and Zenzi loves trying everything new. Do you take after one or both of your parents? Or did their fascination with food not get passed on. Describe an average day for the kit. Write whatever comes to mind!

Need to rewrite this at some point, since I'm redoing the Pack
Elder's Story In a land far to the east a child was born, and her family rejoiced. The land they lived upon was beautiful but it did not give reward without great effort. Every paw was needed to lend help if they were to survive. At first things seemed promising. The girl was strong, intelligent, energetic, and had a lovely coat of fur. Her family was sure she would grow up to be the best of them, but as time passed her stature remained the same. Perhaps she was simply a late bloomer? But as the weeks turned to months, they could no longer deny the true nature of the child. She was a permakit, the most cursed of creatures in their land. She could only be a burden in this beautiful, harsh land.
In a land to the west where a vast plain met forest and river, there lived a permakit with a coat that looked as though it had been dipped in the night sky. He liked the tall grasses of the plains, which hid him from predators and held many small animals suited to his size for hunting, but it was lonely. One day while out hunting he came across a female kit with a coat the color of sunrise. She was unconscious and would not wake no matter how loudly he called, but he could find no visible hurts on her. He carefully dragged the kit to the nearest spring and splashed her with water. When the water ran into her mouth she started to come around, so he carefully ferried water to her. Soon she could stand, and quenched her thirst from the spring. For many days he took care of her, encouraging her to eat and drink. He was happy, for though his new companion never said a word he was no longer alone.
Many days passed before the girl said her first words to the one who had rescued her. She couldn't decide if she wanted to curse or thank him for saving her, so she did neither. Instead she told him stories of the land where she had come from, far to the east, and told him of the many adventures she had encountered in her travels. Though one so young could not possible have so many stories and still be a child, she never admitted to being a permakit. It was the male himself who commented on it. Her first reaction was terror and denial, but then he said, "So am I! Isn't that great?" It was the first time anyone ever seemed to value that part of her.
The girl stayed with the boy, for her heart and soul had found true acceptance and a place to belong such as it had not had since the days when she was a newborn. Together they made a family, perhaps an odd one for they were two very different kinds of people, but it was a family full of acceptance and happiness. They decided to form a tribe, so that any of their kind who were lost or lonely could have a family and place to call home.
Tribe's Story The two permakits, Ilithyia and Phosphoros, knew that few chose to cross the grasslands they lived in. With its powerful storms and scarce water sources, even those with wings might balk over crossing such terrain. The two decided to travel together, to either find a new land that was more hospitable to start their family, or to find others in need and bring them back to the plains. So they headed north, to the forests and mountains. In some ways the land was more forgiving than the plains, and in others it was more harsh. After two months the permakits reached the base of a vast mountain range, too tall to climb over. They could go no further north, so they turned west. The forests grew thinner, and food became scarcer. Still, it was a beautiful land, and both were used to harsh climates. They quickly adapted, learning what plants were edible and were to find then, and how to hunt for small animals living under rocks and in burrows. Then, they ran into a river that seemed to come from under the mountain, too board for them to cross. The mountains were as impassable as they had ever been. The permakits backtracked for a few days, returning to a cave system they had passed. They decided they would live there for a time and rest while they decided where to go next.
The caves themselves traveled deep into the mountains, twisting and turning to create a vast warren of tunnels. The pair spent days exploring, using foliage from outside to mark where they had been so they did not get lost. One day, while exploring, the two found a tunnel so small that they barely fit through it. It seemed to extend deeper into the mountain than they'd gone before, with fewer branchings than the main cave system. They traveled through the tunnel for so long that they began to get nervous, and were debating turning around when the smell of fresh air and growing things struck their noses. They eagerly hurried forward, tumbling free of the rocks and finding themselves in a perfect little pocket valley. The mountain loomed all around them.
About the Perma Pack
The Perma Pack is based on two maxims that define what they are.
A haven Permakits are different. They look like kits, physically they are kits, but mentally and emotionally they can be just as mature as adults. In a sense it is like the species is isolated. Permakits are rare; a normal adult who happens across one may treat them like a normal kit, even upon learning learning otherwise. Some adults will try to treat them as a fellow adult, but subconsiously still see a kit. Some permakits see this as an immediate insult and some will get tired of it over time, it just varies from personality to personality on if and/or how the offense is taken. In an all-permakit community this misunderstanding is removed; it is truly a place of equals.
Therefore the Pack welcomes all permakits, even those who don't want to join as offical members. Visitors do not get to participate in tribe festivals, have no rank, and must follow all Pack rules, but otherwise are treated the same as members.
A family Permakits tend to be lonely creatures. They're often abandoned, and if raised by their birth parents they rarely keep in touch with them later in life. They almost never have siblings. Some get themselves adopted into small family units, some join tribes, but there can still be the issue of being treated like kits. The Pack strives to be a giant family, one bound not by blood but by a common purpose, respect, and affection. No one is left out and everyone is cared for.
Since permakits are still physically kits they do not form romantic relationships but they can still form soul-deep bonds, friendships that may or may not have turned romantic had they grown up. These bonds are purely platonic and are usually formed between two individuals, but can sometimes form between three. Bonded pairs, or trios, will be closer to each other than anyone else and tend to share a den.
The Perma Pack pays homage to two Deities
Modeity of Children, Nameless While not all permakits act child-like they all still inhabit the bodies of children, and thus are favored by her. Once a year they hold a celebration to honor her.
Modeity of Bonds(Friendship), Nameless The Pack is a family forged from, not romance or blood, but bonds of friendship and mutual understanding. These bonds hold them together and bind them as tight as any blooded family. Once a year they hold a celebration to enforce and renew these bonds, that they never take them for granted.
Celebrations
Spring Cleaning On the first day of spring old bedding is taken out of their dens and disposed of. The Pack spends the entire day collecting new grasses and herbs to line their dens.
Kid's Day On the last day of spring the hunters and gatherers bring in enough food to last the whole Pack for two days. On the first day of summer the entire Pack gets together to play games, feast, and run around being silly like true kids. At the end of the day they make offerings and give thanks to the Modeity of Children. The next day is spent in leisure recovering from the festivities.
Bond's Day The festival takes place after the first snow of the year falls, or on winter solstice if it is a warm year. The entire Pack travels north as a team to the forest's edge to spend the night together in a communal den. The next morning they gather extra nesting materials from the forest floor before heading back onto the plains together.

Usernames: jinxgirl5 & smolderingskies Nixie Name: Flax (smolderingskies) Grimm Name: Laurel (jinxgirl5) Entry: 135. That was the quantity contained in a jar of plastic, glow-in-the-dark, adhesive stars. One-hundred and thirty-five. But Flax was paranoid enough, so he bought two jars. And, boy, was he thanking the gods for his precognition that morning as jar number one ran out and he had to crack open the second. The last roommate wished him luck as they buckled their belt and shoved a granola bar into their mouth, and he could hear hurried footsteps in the hallway as they rushed to class.
Flax was focusing on being calm.
Or at the very least, he was trying. Even though he was easily going to be late enough to his first period to be considered tardy, the Nixie really needed to put effort into today. He ran into the shared dorm bathroom and checked himself in the mirror. The skin on his face, while pallid, was hydrated. When Flax had first rolled out of bed this morning, he had been sure to smear his cologne-scented salve all over himself. Although it wasn't recommended because it wasn't natural, he wasn't going to risk smelling like the odd combination of organic sage and lavender all day. Not today.
He ran a comb through his straight hair nervously, before returning to his room. A small, unmarked box rested on his bedside table. Flax picked it up and opened it, looking at the contents. A deep breath. He closed the box again and put it back, delicately. Finally, the Nixie lifted his burgundy backpack and strode out.
Third period was the first class they had together. She sat two rows in front of Flax, one to the left. She was there before him, and he couldn't even look at her on the way to his seat. The knot in his stomach twisted anxiously at the thought of approaching her later. He stared at the back of her head the whole class. He imagined caressing those gentle waves of hair, holding her hands, even kissing those supple lips. But not yet. Flax needed to focus on the task at hand, first. He needed to get through this class, and the rest of the day, first.
It had been months since Flax had realized how head over heeds he was for Laurel. They had classes together before, perhaps could even be called friends. He went out of his way to spend time with her, making a show of being funny. He often wiggled his gills at her, trying to get her attention. He would send her notes in class complimenting her outfit, or her hair, or her intelligence. He had even cooked her food, bought her trinkets, drew things for her out of the blue, asked her to various events and dances. And yet, she never reciprocated.
One might think she was giving subtle hints that she wasn't interested, yet Flax felt this wasn't the case. Laurel seemed to be genuinely enjoying the time spent with him... or was it all in his head? The Grimm never declined his invitations, without fair reason. She accepted his gifts politely. So why weren't they dating already? Flax had never thought Grimm courting behaviors were so different from the Nixies'. In fact, he had presumed they were pretty similar.
The final class of the day ended, and Flax struggled to stuff his bag full of the books strewn across his desk. He wasn't even sure what they had gone over today. The Nixie was sure he had made a show of being anxious, tapping his pencil on the desk, bouncing his leg, staring off into space. Now, it was time to put all that nervous energy to use.
The footsteps to her locker were memorized. He watched his feet move past each other, past the patterned tiles of the school floor. And finally, he saw hers. Flax's gaze panned upward, meeting her eyes. "Hey, Laurel," he said. His voice was shaking, and he was making a clear effort to seem relaxed. The words just tumbled out. "I, uh, got something really cool. It's in my dorm room. Do you want to come see it?"
Laurel looked over, ears perked up in interest. She was considered a cheerful, friendly, outgoing person by many, but she was also known for being totally, completely oblivious. Sarcasm not only flew over her head, it performed a series of fancy tricks along the way. She thought flirting was just a display of friendship. What was the difference between a sad face and a sleepy face? More often than not one had to be bluntly direct before Laurel understood.
Flax was Laurel's best friend ever. He was always so nice to her, giving her gifts and keeping her company! He fin wiggled a lot when around her, so she was pretty sure he thought she was his best friend as well.
"Really? That sounds neat!" She put her most of her books away, keeping the ones she'd need for homework, and hoisted her bag onto her shoulders, tail wagging slightly and expression a mixture of eagerness and curiosity. "I've got a free period right now!"
Flax let out a breath of relief. "Great!" he said, a toothy grin spreading his face. He couldn't resist wagging his gills. She had taken the bait, and his plan would be carried out easily. Over the past few days, the Nixie had informed his roommates of the situation. Of course, they had heard his moans and bellyaching about his affection toward Laurel for months. Staying out of the room for an evening was nothing compared to future peace and quiet.
The walk to his dorm was pleasant, as their walks always were. Flax mostly listened to the beautiful girl talk, unable to recall most of his own classes throughout the day. He loved how comfortable she seemed around him. Flax would feel the same way, he imagined, if he didn't always have unspoken words on the tip of his tongue.
Finally, the pair approached his dorm. The student began to buzz with nervousness. He clenched his jaw, and fished for his key in his pocket. They stood outside the door, and as he stuck the key into the lock, he flashed Laurel a smile. The knot in his stomach twisted once more. "Are you ready?"
Laurel was a few steps short of actual wiggling from the excitement. She didn't know what she was about to see, but if Flax said it was cool then it had to be! She'd been chattering almost nonstop the entire walk, talking mostly about how classes had gone that morning and other little things. It was usually a solid way to judge her mood, since the chattier she got the more excited she was about something. She flashed a grin a Flax.
"Completely ready. Should I brace myself for how cool this will be, or do you think the shock and awe will be at standard levels?"
Flax had a moment of doubt. Laurel always expected the best of people. What if she didn't think his surprise was sweet? Or even worse, get upset at him because he had (only sort of!) lied about what he was taking her to see? It was definitely a thing, that, in some cases, could be considered cool. And it was in his dorm room. So, yeah, he hadn't lied at all. "Well... I just hope you like it!" he admitted honestly, turning the key.
His room was as neat as he had left it, and the blinds on the other side of the room were open. Flax did a little half-jog over to the window, and pulled the string, shutting his bedroom in darkness. "Close the door behind you, and come look at this," the Nixie instructed. He was vibrating with tension.
On the wall were gently glowing words, arranged from plastic stars. They spelled out, in no uncertain terms, Flax's proposal. Will you be my girlfriend?
Flax inched over to his bedside table, feeling for the box he had left there earlier. He felt the soft velvet of the container, and picked it up. Then, the Nixie moved cautiously toward Laurel. He wanted to ask her what she thought, but the words caught in his throat. Instead, he gave her an expectant look.
Laurel had been a little bemused by the request, but readily shut the door and walked towards Flax. She'd initially thought the room was completely dark, but a soft green light in front of her made her pause. She read the words, eyes widening. She turned to look at Flax (her eyes had quickly adjusted to the light change and she could barely make him out), confusion on her face. "Me?"
Oooh, but what if he was just showing her an idea to ask out someone special, and he just wanted her opinion? Well that would be a little embarrassing on her part, not to mention that would hurt a bit; why wouldn't Flax have told her before now if he had someone he was interested in?
Flax could only faintly see the outline of her face, but he could tell by her tone of voice she was confused. At the same time, he wanted to save this moment. The air dripped with anticipation. It was as if the whole world was waiting for him to say it. "Yes, you!" the boy cried, feeling heat flush his face. Before he could stop himself, Flax was monologuing.
"Laurel, I am so in love with you! With everything about you. You're beautiful, you're smart, you're funny, and you're everything I want. And with the Hunter's Jubilee coming up, I just thought, well... Will you be mine?" His now slippery hands fumbled with the velvet box until it popped open. "Please?"
In the dim light, a small pendant could be seen. It was a heart-shaped, silver filigree necklace. A slight luster could be seen from the beautiful mother of pearl that made up the stone. Flax presented the gift to Laurel, one final, definitive icon of his yearning for her affection.
Laurel's paws had come up to cover her mouth, and with each word Flax spoke her eyes seemed to grow wider and wider. She'd had no idea he felt that way about her, no idea at all! There was a moment of silence that couldn't have been more than a few seconds but felt like it lasted for an eternity, like the worlds of Above and Below themselves were holding their breath in anticipation of her answer.
"Oh my," she finally said softly, the words muffled behind her paws. Tears started to gather in the corners of her eyes. "Yes," she said, lowering her paws. A smile started to form on her face as the joy-induced tears ran down her cheeks. "Yes," she repeated, a bit louder. "Oh my goodness, yes!" She reached out and wrapped her arms around Flax, laughing a little in disbelief that the talented and clever Nixie would want her out of all the people he could have chosen.
Flax gasped when the Grimm's paws reached around him, but he couldn't help but catch her case of the giggles. Relaxing, the Nixie reached his arms around Laurel as well, burying his face in her hair. She smelled of flowers and candy. And now, she was his girlfriend. The restless nights, dreaming of being hers, the feelings of longing and yearning. The fact that she felt the same way, that his wishes had finally come to fruition, filled his chest with an unbelievable lightness.
As the Nixie held her, he felt a sense of relief. At the same time, however, he felt excitement and anticipation for the future. Every moment with Laurel, from now on, would have no reservations. There would be no more secrets, no more unspoken feelings. Flax was ready to open up to her completely, and he couldn't be any more elated. "Thank you," he murmured softly, clutching onto her tighter. He never wanted to let go.
Laurel didn't seem to share that thought. Or, rather, she had something else in mind. She pulled back a bit and brought her paws up (carefully, no matter how energetic she was she was always very careful with her claws), placed them on either side of Flax's face, and drew the Nixie into a very sweet kiss. They were both probably going to be late for their next classes, but neither would hold any regrets.
