Overview

Squad Five - Kido Specialists

Squad Five are the Kido Specialists of Soul Society. These Shinigami are the most skilled at Kido, and are trained to activate higher level Kido by the Captain.
Squad Five is combined with the Kido Corps. The Squad relies more on their Zanpakuto than the Kido Corps, but are still more specialised with them than other Squads.
The Kido Corps are under the control of the Squad 5 Captain, and have their Headquarters in the same area, but the two groups are still separate.
The Captain of Squad Five is considered the most skilled Kido user in all Soul Society. They also function as Kido Commander in Chief, and ensure that the Kido Corps operate in complete secrecy.

Duties

The main expectation held for members of Squad 5 is that they are superior Kido users, when compared to another Shinigami of their level.
Maintaining this standard is one of the primary duties of the 5th Division.

In combat, Squad 5 is expected to be spread throughout other Divisions, providing long range support through utility-orientated Bakudo, defensive Sogaido, and offensive Hado.

Duties

The Kidō Corps is responsible for opening the Senkaimon between the Human World and Soul Society, in addition to managing any other portals that the Gotei 13 requires. They are also responsible for releasing the Sōkyoku seal during executions, and handling the barriers on similarly powerful artifacts.

Rules

There are few rules specific to the 5th Division of the Gotei 13.
While most rules for Shinigami are universal, those that are specific to Squad 5, or at least, uncommon for other Squads, are listed below.
With the exception of Zanpakuto proficiency, the rules also apply to the Kido Corps.

Members of Squad 5 are expected to maintain their proficiency with Kido.
Any unusual or 'new' Kido must be reported to the Lieutenant or Captain immediately.
Though a member of Squad 5's primary focus should be Kido, they must practice with the other key combat styles of a Shinigami, to avoid letting their skills dull.
Caution must be used when experimenting with Kido. Though attempting to do something new with Kido is encouraged, it should be approached warily until its safety can be verified.
