I know this because last night I finished Assassin's Creed: Revelations, felt an overwhelming rage and hatred towards Ubisoft for raising more questions rather than answering the existing ones, spent 5 minutes maturely directing my middle finger at the TV, went to bed... and then I woke up this morning and thought about whether I should go preorder 3 now or wait a little longer.

The only explanation is hypnotism.

None of these seem to be particularly new or exciting revelations
And one of the points (longass trips vs shortass trips) encompasses every scenario, as every level is either long or short and its distinction is made by the players themselves (for instance, someone might not think that a WoW raid is long...)
That being said, these same types of things can also apply to non-video games (particularly sports watching), something else people spend a lot of the their time on, yet they don't seem to get any flak.
Also, while I used to be a person that'd be like "why would anyone spend money on virtual stuff", after taking economics, I have taken a different view. After all, people derive their own value from things. For instance, I might not think that tickets to a baseball game is valuable to me, but someone else would kill for those tickets. In the end, it's about whether the person thinks they get something out of it, and if they want to spend money on a virtual object, then they should because it'd incur a small opportunity cost upon them. Sure, people might say that it's "fake", and not tangible, but at the same time, many things that ARE tangible are a lot cheaper without that fancy logo or player's name on it, meaning you're paying more money for something that is intrinsically the same. So while yes, I am not invested in Gaia enough to buy Gcash, some people are, and them spending money on it is the best purchase for them.
I guess because I play MMOs, have spent a small amount of money and a large amount of time on them I'm defensive about it (actually I probably am proving to be very defensive), sometimes mindless entertainment is still entertaining, as to quote my brother, "for some strange reason, my favorite part about maplestory was just grinding".
Though having things with upkeep and must constantly be watched over is really stupid, and are among the worst of games to play

It's also humorous that right underneath the article was an advertisement to Maplestory
