The Bottomless Hall is a rather misleading name. While there is a gigantic pit throughout the majority of this area, the pit is most certainly not bottomless. In fact, if you fall into the pit, you will end up in the Silent Chamber below. This area has faces that spout water (like in the Hall area) that can send you plummeting into the area below. There are two levels to this area, and in order to reach the Treasure Chamber on the other side, one must climb to the upper level and move across to the other side, all the while battling whatever enemies appear in the room.
