So I wanted to run this by you guys, or atleast post this, before I ask Djehuty about this.
But I've been thinking the last couple days about some kind of Kemetic name that I could use online(cuz I don't want to keep going around the internet calling myself Yami) and possibly one that I would see if the gods would use when we converse. They only either call me "Child" or "My Child". I could still be jumping the gun on this but I wanted to see what you guys thought about it. On and off I've been looking up different Kemetic names and picking them apart to find their meanings. The one day, a while back, I was glancing over a list of names and Kama'at(roughly translated to Spirit of Ma'at) seemed to stick out. But since then it doesn't really stick out as much anymore.
But some of the names that have seemed interesting are: Nefertma'at(Atleast I think that's how the female version would be spelled. But roughly translates to Ma'at is beautiful) Hemetdjehuty(Servent of Djehuty) Djehutyhotep(Djehuty is pleased) Nesdjehuty(She who belongs to Djehuty) Sherit(Little one)
Going through the list I actually just found Sherit. But if I was to use and of the ones dealing with Djehuty I'd want to ask Him first if He was ok with it. But what do you guys think? Now that I found Sherit I'm kinda leaning towards that one a bit. I'm still going to ask Djehuty first. But do you guys think I should wait a bit longer and see if They say anything about it?

While I have yet to any real conversations with my Gods I think it might work. Though if they call you something thats probably what they want to call I'd think. Though Sherit seems to be in the same train of thought.

TheyCallMeJustiursa Though if they call you something thats probably what they want to call I'd think. That's why I've been iffy about just finding a name for myself. Quote: Though Sherit seems to be in the same train of thought. And that's probably why I'm starting to feel more inclinded to ask about that one over the others.

You could always ask if your Gods, or at least the ones you are primarily working with want to give you a name. In Middle Eastern Cultures, names are a big deal.

I'm going to try asking tonight. Last night I was way too tried to try anything. But happy that I actually didn't fail Social Psychology like I thought I was going to.

Never hurts to ask a question. At worst you'll end up getting some kind of further clarification on the subject. I can understand that people get intimidated by the Gods, but most of the time they don't want you sitting and waiting for directions. You've got to take things on yourself, to start.
I have been called various things by my Gods, but I consider those private, and they are used only between them and myself. They are, however, generally closer to a nickname, than a name - some are humorous or playful, others diminutive or affectionate. I never took a name myself, for use in public or otherwise, until I was given one by my coven. For a while I even went by 'Nameless' - my high priestess couldn't seem to remember my given name any time she wanted to use it.
To be on-topic, though, the first time I attended a Hathor invocation, she gave me a name: 'Nianhkhathor". I'm not one of hers, and the rest of her pantheon eyes me with various degrees of disdain or mistrust, but I guess she liked me enough to give me a 'civilized' name. I figure she just didn't want have to speak a barbarian tongue. xp
My public Craft name, at this point, is my Dedication name: 'Mara'. Mara means 'truth' in Kemetic, but it also is the Irish word for 'sea', and the Hebrew name for 'bitter'. I find it fitting.
Don't be surprised if you've had a name all along but haven't understood it yet. It's also possible that you haven't earned a name yet, and that's why you haven't gotten one - it will come in time.

I'm starting to learn that one. I'm trying to break away from waiting but I'm a timid person to start with. I know I'm still new at it. Its why I'm iffy with all the names I listed minus Sherit. Thanks Morg.
