After a long off season filled with questions and doubt as to whether or not we will even have football this season, here we are just two games away from wrapping up week 1, and what a weekend it was! Some things played out as I predicted, others caught me completely off guard and blew me away. Here are my thoughts.

What Kick off Returns!?- When the owners decided to move the kick off line from the 30 to the 35, many complained and whined over how this would impact the game negatively. Yes there were more touch backs than I would have liked, but I think week one showed that we will still see plenty of kick off returns taken back for TD's as we saw three so far. And who knows, maybe a few more tomorrow night. This doesn't mean I'm still in favor of moving the line up, but at least I'm not worrying nearly as much over the impact of the return games.

Is Newton for real?- Cam Newton, the #1 overall draft pick by the Panthers had an amazing first NFL game. Setting a record for most passing yards by a rookie with 422. And while he is very deserving of praise for today, even with a loss, one performance doesn't sell me on him being successful. Don't forget the team he put up those numbers against. An Arizona Cardinals team that was dead last in the worst division from 1 year ago. Both teams played their hearts out, and even against a poor Cardinals team I have to give much Kudo's to Cam in his first NFL start.

The Manning factor- I knew the Colts were going to struggle without Peyton Manning, but I didn't expect them to fall apart the way they did against the Texans without him. The Colts have been very competitive and has long as Manning was at the helm, they have always been a playoff contender. Sunday has shown just how much this team needs him, but many other whispers have arisen from around the league. Manning is out indefinitely, and there is no guarantee he will be back at all this season. the 36 year old Manning is set to receive 28 Million guaranteed whether if he plays or not, and is set to receive $90 million over the next 5 years. But there is a clause in his contract that if he doesn't play, the Colts have the option of letting him go after this season and can avoid paying him the full amount of the contract. Some have already speculated that the Colts just might be looking to the future and might with a stroke of 'LUCK' might land Peyton's successor in the draft. Of course this is all just rumor, but depending on how the Colts end the season and IF Manning plays at all, one must wonder... Will the Colts keep an aging and now injury prone Manning for the remainder of his contract, or will they be tempted to rebuild the team around a new QB next season?

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK!!

Ravens Defense- Pick a player, any player on that defensive roster, they can be a player of the week. But when the Ravens D smack Roethlisberger and the defending AFC NORTH/CONFERENCE Champions around, forcing 7 turnovers and helping Flacco get his first win over the division rivals, this couldn't have been a better start for the Ravens this year.

Ted Ginn Jr. (49ers)- For the 49ers, Special teams won the day. The offense was struggling and couldn't really find a solid answer to the Seahawks defense, but Akers 4 field goals topped off by Ted Ginn Jr. back to back kick off return and Punt return for TD's, No question he was the man of the hour in Candlestick.
