RP Log for Lelouch vi Britannia and Suzaku Kururugi <3

The small "town" of sorts that had been created for the owner's Pockettu had one little "house" off from the others. Its inhabitant was rather reclusive, preferring to avoid interacting with most of the other Pockettu around. Of course, considering what had happened, was it any surprise that Lelouch vi Britannia would avoid people? He was...tired. He had expected that with his death, it would be over, but he had found himself awakening as his strange little toy, with a much larger, flesh-and-blood human girl telling him that this was his new home. Recently, she had told him that she had a "surprise" of sorts on the way, something she "thought he might like." So when his reading was interrupted by a light rapping on the door to his home, he expected that this was the "surprise" she had spoken of. He got up and opened the door.

"Who's there?" He asked.

Suzaku Kururugi stood outside the house, feeling distinctly uncomfortable. He glanced down and cringed a bit. He still wore his clothes as the Knight of Seven, later Knight of Zero. He had been directed here by the girl that was now his...owner, in this new toylike form. It was indicated that there was someone here that he would like to meet. So he rapped on the door, not sure what to expect. He certainly hadn't expected what he did see. There, in his Ashford Academy uniform, looking so sweet and familiar, was...

"Lelouch?" It came out as a strangled gasp. How was it possible? (Perhaps best not to question, actually.) The image of Lelouch's death at his own hands was forever burned into his mind, along with Nunnally's screaming sobs of grief. Was this what he was being given? A second chance with Lelouch?

Lelouch's eyes widened as he took in the figure in the doorway. This was his "surprise?" Well. He certainly wasn't complaining.

"S-Suzaku...! Come in, please," he said, stepping aside to allow his onetime best friend entry. This was a bit awkward, certainly, but more...happy. There was no Britannian empire here, no Black Knights, no war to get between them. He couldn't help but notice that Suzaku was in his Knight outfit, which Lelouch had to admit looked quite good on him. (But really, there was no need for him to be thinking about that. Any chance of that was long gone, he was sure, and he would be happy for them to just be friends again.)

Suzaku slipped into the house and closed the door behind him.

"Um, this is. Well." He looked thoroughly embarrassed. He glanced beside him and noticed that Lelouch's shoes were there. So he'd kept that one Japanese custom. How interesting. Suzaku slid off his boots and rested them next to Lelouch's. "I...didn't expect you to keep that up," he nodded to where their two pairs of shoes stood, side by side.

"The little things," Lelouch shrugged, "to remind me of...before." He sighed. "Suzaku. There's so much that we need to say." He stared at his best friend. They had talked quite a bit while they were preparing for Zero Requiem, but there was so much they hadn't touched on. Things they had avoided, because their alliance had been tenuous at best. He had always been afraid of saying something, bringing up something, that would shatter it into little pieces.

He found standing uncomfortable, especially since it was mostly on ceremony. "Please, sit," he gestured to the second armchair in the room and took a seat himself in the one he had previously occupied.

Suzaku let out a tiny sigh of relief. Yes, there was a lot left unsaid, but at least they were on friendly...enough terms that Lelouch wanted him to stay. Right? Right? He walked over to the chair and unclasped his cloak, draping it over the back of the seat and sitting down.

"Lelouch," he began, "I know there's a lot we never said, but, does it really...matter...?" He had been as much on pins and needles as his best friend. He missed the days of simply chatting in the Student Council building of Ashford Academy, of having a friendship without lies and deceit. "I mean," he rushed to explain, because it did matter but it didn't at the same time, "none of that followed us here, right? So..we can...put it behind us...!" His voice was almost pleading.

Lelouch crossed his arms, frowning. "Of course it matters," he said. "It all matters. Please, don't tell me you can put Euphemia behind you." That was one of the things he had always avoided talking about. Bringing up what had happened to Euphie was too painful for Lelouch, and he was fairly certain it was too painful for Suzaku. It hadn't mattered when he was going to die in a few months, but now that it looked like they had quite a bit more time together, it had to be dredged up. The air had to be cleared.

Suzaku cringed and went white. Why did Lelouch have to bring up that? "I-I don't..." He'd tried hard to forget, but the images quickly came rushing back. Euphie gasping her last, as he'd promised her they'd attend Ashford Academy together... And knowing that not only was it Lelouch who had shot her, but Lelouch who had initiated the command that led to the massacre, meaning that by proxy, Lelouch had killed hundreds, if not thousands, of civilians just to advance his plans...! It brought back a bitter feeling. "Why?"

Lelouch had followed the emotions that flashed across Suzaku's face, and he knew that he had probably chosen the wrong thing to bring up. "Why?" He asked softly, and he sighed. "Would you believe me if I told you that I lied to you that day at the shrine? It wasn't on purpose." He shook his head slowly, resting his face in his hand. "It was...I wanted to accept her offer of peace. She told me that she was giving up her nobility. It was...such typical Euphie, that I couldn't possibly reject her. But...I was incredibly foolish." He wanted to cry, but forced himself not to. Could he cry in this body? "I...was trying to explain to Euphie the power of my Geass. I was...making a point...morbidly. When I told her to kill all the Japanese...I didn't mean to, but C.C. had apparently forgotten to tell me that eventually, my Geass would become permanently active after a certain number of uses. Well, it decided to turn on permanently right as I was saying...that."

Suzaku watched the remorse in every line of Lelouch's body. He also felt horror curl in the pit of his stomach. So many of his actions, so many of his cruelties to Lelouch, had been the result of that massacre. To know that it had been an accident...? "You-you didn't mean to?" Suzaku stared at his friend, who looked so broken at that moment. And suddenly, so much of what Lelouch did made so much more sense. "This must've been eating you up for a long time, huh?" He asked, standing up and walking over to him. He looked so vulnerable. "Well, that means I...have something to apologize for." He said. "Lelouch, I'm so sorry. I betrayed you to the Emperor, and it was entirely because I blamed you for that. I...I hated you so much, because I thought you'd used Euphie and all those people for political gain. I was wrong. Can you ever forgive me?"

Lelouch looked up at Suzaku, surprised to find him standing so close so suddenly. "Apologize...? Ah..." He shook his head. "I forgave you for that long ago. You were doing your duty. And...I forgive you for hating me, if you're asking for it; I deserved hatred. I deserve hatred." He sighed, sitting back in his chair. "I don't see that you have anything to apologize for."

Suzaku felt an uncontrollable urge to embrace Lelouch. Despite their awkward positioning, he gave in, wrapping his arms around his old friend's shoulders and hugging him tight. "No. We were kids. Seventeen years old. It's no wonder we acted...stupidly. You got a power you knew nothing about and couldn't control dumped into your lap, and I got pulled into a position I wasn't ready for, no way no how. So I...I forgive you for everything. I can't hate you, Lelouch; you're my best friend. Ever since we were kids, you've always been my best friend."
