Which documentaries have inspired you? Which ones have you been watching to broaden your base knowledge in sustainable living?

I've been watching Food Inc., Food Matters and Ingredients- and I liked all 3 of them, but I think Food Matters and Ingredients are my current 2 favorites- the Food Inc had some parts that were hard to take seriously.

My favorite movie growing up was an IMAX movie that I saw at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was the first time I had ever seen an IMAX movie so it made a very big impression. I was also pretty fascinated with nature, conservation, and outer space at the time. (Guess not much has changed biggrin ) The movie, Blue Planet (clip) features some beautiful photography of the Earth from space. There are also some great segments of aerial photography of some of the Earth's natural features. After watching it, I remember feeling how wonderful and special our planet was and how very important it was for us to protect it.

For healthy eating, the film Super Size Me (full movie) has made a lasting impression.

Our Waterlife had a great impact on me after I watched it. I live next to one of the Great Lakes so seeing just how bad they really are was scary. After I watched this documentary I decided I wanted to become a water quality analyst. I am currently am a water quality analyst and hope to continue to be one after I graduate.

The Canteen Spirit -- 125 towns came together and set up a train station canteen for our military men heading off to war during WW2 since the North Platte Rail station was a pit stop for them. Many of these women donated their time, food rations and love for our guys. Everyone from stores to farmers to homesteaders pitched in making cakes, cookies, sandwiches and coffee, passing them out to literally THOUSANDS of soldiers.

King Corn -- (The video only shows 20 minutes of the 90 movie. It is worth watching the whole movie though.) This is another documentary that is an eye opener on where our food comes from. Or as the Description says: "Two recent college graduates embark on a mission to see where America's food comes from—by growing it. In the rural town of Greene, Iowa, the two friends plant a single acre of the nation's most powerful crop, and then set out to follow it from a seed to the dinner plate."

Super Size Me also opened my eyes too.

Yay, another Houstonian! ^^

Super Size Me was one that really opened my eyes to how bad fast food was, and it was reinforced by my time working at a fast food place when I couldn't find any other job, after I quit there, I felt worlds better, as my diet became healthier and I didn't have the guilt of handing bags of horrible food to people who couldn't even fit behind their steering wheels. It was horrible...

Another film I came across in school (I have many years of art film/video training) was Koyaanisquatsi (sp?), a documentary with no words, that shows how wonderful the planet is and how we need to work to keep that way. A very lovely film should anyone wish to see it. I believe there's actually a full length film of it on youtube. ^^

biggrin *Does happy dance* *Remembers drought* *Does combined happy/ raindance* xd Hooray for another Houstonian!

I also like the television show, b Organic, since it has great tips on everything from making rain barrels to making organic eye shadow. I haven't seen it on tv (PBS) lately, but there are tons of clips on the website.

Food INC I like but keep at arms length because its bankrolled by chipotle, who buys slave-wage tomatoes and refuses to pay an extra penny per pound to make sure workers can make a living.

The Garden is amazing, but has a very tragic ending

The Union is pretty good

Beer Wars is enlightening

Colony

The Real Dirt on Farmer John

Natural histoy of the chicken

these are just a few, i watch ALOT of documentaries on netflix

I quite honestly haven't watched a lot. But Supersize Me was an eye opener when I watched it as a teenager

I don't watch too many documentaries, but the series Planet Earth was mind blowing. How could anyone not want to save something so beautiful?

Sicko appalled me and made me want to flee the country. I actually have never had to deal with being uninsured until recently, because the state I used to live in had free health insurance for people who can't afford it, and then a sliding scale for people who need help.
