I want some spats. I don't want to wear heels. If I had some boots other than huge ones from Hot Topic, I'd wear those, but I don't.

Anyway, would it look riddiculous to wear spats with sneakers? Or any other shoe with next to no heel?

And would the strap under the shoe get too torn up to hold the thing on after a while of walking on it?

I'm not sure what to tell you about how worn-out it would get.

But I think if you were going for a more"punk" look (after all, it IS steamPUNK) I think they would look fine together.

And this is coming from a girl who loves her heals...>.>'

I think it depends on the type of sneakers. Spats and something close to the foot, like Converse, sounds like a good combination, but spats and wider/clunkier shoes (the ones with all the padding around the foot) just doesn't make for a pretty mental image.

The strap that goes under the shoe could be taken care of by reinforcing it with a little bit of canvas on the ground side of the strap. Actually, making spats entirely of canvas and wearing them with canvas shoes would probably look good and they'd last for quite some time.

Pshh, you people and heels. I'll never understand. Make it hard to walk and hurt like hell. Look great though, so it's ever so tempting. I do have some character shoes that are almost comfortable...

I've been thinking for a while about making a steampunk outfit that really is literally steam-punk, with lots of irrational straps with brass buckles and all that. I would probably walk around thinking "HA! I'm a PUN!" and then I would think I was funny and randomly fall over giggling and people would wonder what was wrong with me...

Come to think of it, that's what usually happens to me.

My shoes are somewhere between Converse and Vans...not ridiculously clunky but not a single layer of canvas. They're excessively average, actually. I love them, because nobody ever notices them. Because they're black and average. I can wear them with anything. Hopefully I can wear them with spats.

They aren't canvas, though; they're more a sort of odd combination of leather and vinyl, which is a bizarre idea but somehow didn't come out looking half bad.

But canvas! Yes! Canvas is good. I wonder if I can get it at Joann Fabrics >.<

P.S., your signature is awesome. Otters FTW. Ooh, and your name's got "lutra" in it. I'm so clever.

*runs to her heels*

Don't listen to her...*pets shoes*

ANYWAY. I love that idea! Irrational straps are a key thing, you just can't be punk without them(as are the buckles).

And yes, being a pun is most certainly fun(ha! rhyme!) and I fall on the floor giggling quite often, and no one has ever given ME any grief on the matter. C:

I think I know the kind of shoes you're talking about...because I have some similar. Spats ought to work with them. ^^ And any fabric store will have canvas. I saw some in the fabric department of Wal*Mart today, after all.

P.S. to your P.S. I don't know how many other people have actually gotten the pun. I love otters. To deth. And yes, 'lutra' is completely intentional. Huzzah for name-puns!

Ah, Wal*Mart. It's been a long time since I've seen a Wal*Mart. Somehow I've ended up in the only town in the US that hasn't got one. It's really amazing when I think about it.

I love otters to deth as well. Read far too much Redwall as a child :3

Wait...I'm not sure I got the pun either. I just saw an otter with goggles on it and thought it was win. Can there possibly be more win involved? No way.

-laughs- Lutra is the Latin word for otter. I love those fluffy little troublemakers! And I, too, read a heck of a lot of Redwall when I was younger.

Oh, I thought you meant the picture was a pun. I shouldn't talk about two things at once; I get confused.

Brian Jacques is dead T.T I sing for him a thousand Long Patrol requiems. I say that because I expect Long Patrol requiems are short and to the point. Mouse requiems probably drone on for ages, them and their confusing secular abbey.
