It was a quaint summer day, with the sun beaming brightly down upon the Sereitei. With the heat of the day rising, Kuro sluggishly dragged himself out of the squad grounds and strolled towards a vast field that was nestled just outside of the Sereitei's walls. Kuro strolled towards a tall tree in the distance, seeking cool shelter in its shadow. With a grunt the shinigami fell into the grass beneath the shadows, occasionally sipping his sake until he eventually fell asleep.
(Yep...super rusty...sorry for the short post...)

(sorry about the wait, been really busy and tired lately.)
"I don't think I've seen you around these parts before my friend." The calm, friendly voice stated from behind the drowsing Kuro. As he stepped out from the shadow of the tree he squinted momentarily in the bright sunlight before looking down and nudging the sleeping man's legs with his foot. "Oi, someone is talking to you, don't have much in the way of manners do ya stranger?" He chided with a sharp humor, a grin dancing across the youthful face of the squad 9 vice captain. "But in all seriousness...this reiastu of his is definitely not that of a fresh recruit...it's more akin to that of a captain then anything else...this could turn into a more interesting day than I first expected!" he thought to himself with a tinge of excitement. "Let's just hope you aren't a grump when woken up." He muttered absently waiting for the sleeping man to wake up.
((and sorry bout the crap post, I'm a bit rusty as well.))

A low groan rumbled from Kuro's lips as he felt someone's foot nudging his leg. After a few moments passed, Kuro finally remembered where he was. After finding a nice place to relax for the day, he must have fallen asleep. He had yet to move or talk to the peculiar shinigami who had stumbled upon him while he slumbered. His eyes still closed, feigning sleep still, he listened intently to the young man's voice and studied his reiatsu. Concluding that this was no one he knew in particular he lept to his feet in a single, swift motion. His hand swept through his jet black hair, combing it out of his eyes. His crimson gaze finally fell upon the shinigami who had disturbed is nap.
Kuro moaned as he stretched his limbs and straightened his uniform. He turned away from the vice captain, muttering to himself as he stumbled towards the tree. "Where the hell did my sake disappear to?" He whispered to himself. At the base of the tree sat a jug of sake, a clay cup, and Kuro's tattered zanpakuto. The shinigami leaned against the rough bark of the tree and eyed the young man in front of him once again as he began filling his cup to the brim with sake.
"Now...who the hell are you and why are you waking me up on such a beautiful afternoon?" Kuro continued to glare at the man as he sipped his sake rather loudly.

"Ah so ya live eh?" Zaine asked with a light chuckle, his gaze staying on the fluid movements of the recently awakened shinigami, "Something about this guy...tells me that he's got more power than what I am sensing currently." He thought to himself with interest, as Kuro stretched and straightened himself out Zaine allowed his muscles to tense slightly, unsure of what to expect from the strange and unknown person before him, as the man turned to search for his sake the vice captain allowed a small smile to dance across his features, "Isn't it a bit early in the day to be drinking already?" He inquired calmly, "As to who I am and my business in waking you up I apologize, I am Zaine Tsukioma Vice Captain of squad 9 and as such it is my duty to keep an eye out for trouble in the gotei, I was simply curious as to what someone of your power was doing lazing about when I am fairly certain that I've never before met you." he stated dryly, "Now then etiquette dictates that you give me your name, and if possible rank and division."
(god damn I am sucking at this lol)

Kuro drained his cup and listened quietly as the vice captain spoke. A small grin twitched into existence upon the shinigami's face as he noticed the tension in the man's posture. Kuro's gaze drifted over the man standing before him, studying his every detail. A few moments passed while Kuro was lost in thought when he realized the vice captain was no longer talking. The shinigami cleared his throat with a grunt and began speaking in a smooth, calm tone. "When you've been drinking for as long as I have it doesn't' matter what time of the day it is. As for my name, I am Kuro Kihaku. I am currently not a member of any squad and therefore hold no rank within the Sereitei. I suppose you could say I am in retirement, though it is probably just temporary."
Kuro lazily dropped the clay cup at the base of the tree, where it settled next to the jug of sake once again. He then grasped the hilt of his zanpakuto and slid it through the sash wrapped around his waist where it hung loosely, swaying with each motion he made. "Though you are probably still a bit curious about me, I assure you back in the days when I held a rank it was nothing of importance, nor are my abilities as a shinigami anything worth commenting about. Besides, what is in the past is in the past." He finished with a small grin as he crossed his arms over his chest in a relaxed manner, his crimson gaze still locked on Zaine.
So this is one of the new vice captains. It seems what I originally thought to be another dull day has suddenly become a bit more interesting.
(I've not really rped much in the past year so I'm not doing very well myself XP)

"Somethin funny sir?" Zaine asked lightly, noting the small smirk that lit up the man's expression and answering with his own smile. He listened to the man's response to his earlier question with some skepticism "Kuro Kihaku eh? Where the hell have I heard that name before......." He thought to himself while verbally responding to the man's claim of being no one important, "I really doubt that my friend, I can tell from your reiatsu that you have more than enough power to be among the vice captains, if not the captains themselves." He stated simply, raising his eyebrow as if to further interview the strange person before him, "Now then please quit with the bullshit or I will be forced to bring you in for real questioning, and neither of us want that now do we?" The vice captain's words were at a stark contrast with his expression and the way his voice trembled with excitement, "Perhaps this one will pose a decent challenge anyway..." he thought to himself, prepared to spring into action if need be.

"I am simply a modest shinigami. Nothing more and nothing less. Besides, at the moment I pose no threat to the Sereitei, for if I did, I would not spend my days basking in the sunlight while in a drunken stupor. Instead, I would be cleverly composing a plan to burn the Sereitei to the ground or something of that nature. Yet here I am, a simple drunk who wishes to be left alone." Kuro paused momentarily, his grin growing slightly as Zaine's posture became even more tense, until even his voice was shaking with excitement.
Is he anticipating a fight between us...
The shinigami cleared his throat with a low cough and continued. "However, I do have a question or two of my own. Though I am glad that you are performing your job and trying to keep this place safe, do you always make it a habit to probe random shinigami you stumble upon for terrorist information? Also, if you were forced to take me in for questioning, do you truly believe you could handle someone like me?" He finished with a devilish smirk as he began slowly pacing around the vice captain.
Perhaps it was the booze or maybe he was simply bored, but something was driving Kuro to push this man's buttons. His crimson gaze remained locked on Zaine, awaiting his reply.
