After 2 and 1/2 seasons, and a disappointing 5-10 record following an off season filled with high hopes of a division championship, the 49ers fired coach Mike Singletary after their 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams that ended their chances at a divisional title.
Team president Jed York commented saying that the team will hire an official General Manager in the off season, and that both the new GM and York together will make a decision this off season on a new Head Coach.
Despite their disappointing record coach Singletary last season did finish 8-8, their first non-loosing season in 7 seasons, and the best record the 49ers had since Steve Mariucci.
As a fan of the 49ers I would like to thank Mike Singletary for his hard work since taking over the organization, it was unfortunate that things didn't work out, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Singletary was a great coach. He brought a bad team to a good team. I think it was unfortunate that he got off that way with all the playoff pressure everyone put on him.
