Chandra placed the groceries on the kitchen surface and unpacked them. Flour, sugar, butter, eggs, milk for starters but with the addition of a few more flavoursome ingredients of jam, strawberries and vanilla pods.
There where many things that Chandra couldn't teach her daughter but cooking was one of the things she could. Her family owned a little cafe and Chandra had been taught by her own mother, Sengdroma, the many recipes that they sold there. Her mothers specialty was desserts and it was rare anyone would leave without sampling one. Infact many visited the little cafe just for a slice of her Strawberry tart. Chandra had to say that it was one of her faviourites, and although she had never been able to make it as nice as her mother she still loved to try.
Walking to the sink she rolled up the sleeves of her kimono as best as she could before washing her hands. She turned to her daughter and spoke softly, "So... why is it important that we wash our hands Rishi?" Her daughter smiled as she walked towards her. Chandra loved that smile, so much so that she knew in her heart that she would do anything to protect this precious creature.

Rishima watched as he mother unloaded the ingredients, she licked her lips as the strawberries and jam where revealed. In the short time since she had been created Rishima had come to love sweet foods, it was the main reason why her mother was teaching her to cook desserts. She loved hearing tales of the cafe she was yet to see called 'Wings of the Moon' where her grandmother also enjoyed making sweet foods. Part of Rishima didn't see the point of foods that didn't taste sweet -why eat them if they didn't taste so delicious?
Walking towards her mother she smiled serenly as she copied her, rolling up her sleeves as best as she could manage to due to the wings attached to her arms and washed her hands. At her mothers question Rishima looked up and answered as accuratly as she could remember, "So we no get sick?" This was their third cooking lesson, and so far that question had been asked all three times. Obviously it was important to wash your hands and since Rishima liked cooking she would always make sure to do it right.
Once they had both washed and dried their hands Rishima skipped back to the counter with all the ingredients spread out and chirped excitedly, "What we makin'?"

"Good girl!" Chandra said with a smile as she dried her hands and joined her daughter by the ingredients once more.
She got out a knife, a spoon and a bowl before opening the sugar and beginning to measure it out. Chandra had been taught to measure everything out by eye -it took a while to learn but was a skill well worth having. Rishima of course had managed to pick up the skill much easier than Chandra had as a child, of course her little girl seemed to be a quick study for most things. It made her very proud -if not just a little jealous of her talent.
As she continued her task she answered Rishi's question, "I thought we could try one of my faviourite desserts today. Strawberry tart with custard." Not all tarts needed the custard surrounding the fruit and jam but Chandra had been brought up with and so it felt 'wrong' to forget it. Despite the fact that the vanilla pod she needed was probably the most expensive of all her ingredients. "How does that sound?" She asked as she placed yet another spoonful of butter into the bowl.
Once she was done she handed it to Rishima, "Thats how much we need. Roughtly twenty spoonfuls."

Rishima listened intently and couldn't resist licking her lips at the sound of the dessert they where about to make. "Sworaberry tart yummy!" She commented before a bright smile lit her face.
"Twenty." She repeated as she tried to commit it to memory. Her mothers hands expertly moved to the butter and cut off a chunk that Rishima recognised from one of their other recipes, a victoria sponge cake. So far her mother had taught her to cook one savoury and two desserts, not that she was complaining, she loved desserts.
As she watched the butter being added to sugar Rishima looked up to her mother and held up five fingers. Her mother had showed her that if she placed her fingers side by side she would need to cut off about five fingers worth to measure out the amount needed.

Chandra wanted to ruffle her daughters hair but knew it would mean she would need to wash her hands one more so she resisted. It was hard resisting the cute nature of Rishima, there was something about her that just seemed to shine out making Chandra feel that her name of 'Moon Beam' was well suited. After all Rishima was Chandra's little moon beam, her light in the dark, her hope. And if Chandra had anything to do about it no one would extinguish her, no one would block out her light.
"Thats right, she said to her daughter holding five fingers up. She really was a quick study. "Next we need to add the flour. About twenty also." Swiftly Chandra counted out the flour and showed the mixture to her daughter before handing her a folk, "Care to do the honor? Remember you need to get out as many of the lumps and bumps as you can. Think you can handle that?"
Chandra watched her little girl with pride.

Rishima did her best to remember all the new information before nodding eagarly to her mother. As she took the spoon and tip-toed so that she could reach the bowl that was now placed on the kitchen counter.
"No lumps..." She said as she turned the mixture around and around in a rough figure of eight motion. "...lumps bad." Rishima continued to stir the mixture.
----------------------------Much later----------------------------
Rishima's mother had put the tart under the oven to cook and they had sat down to play a game of cards. Currently the where playing '21' a game designed to help Rishima learn to count. She was getting good at it despite the fact that face down cards confused her since they meant ten but had no numbers on them and the Ace was both one and eleven. Both didn't make sence but she had accepted the rules anyway.
Drawing another card from the pile she pulled her legs towards her as she looked at them. She currently had a 2, 2, and a 4. So that was.... 8. Her mind started to think about what she needed to win. Twelve more. So either two ace's two use as an eleven and a one. Or a ten and a two. Or two sixes. Or a five and a seven. She liked her odds.

Chandra could smell the delicate scent of the tart as it slowly started to cook. She licked her lips and looked at her cards for a moment before watching her daughter as she drew another card. So far they had been pretty even, the luck of the cards being shared between them, three wins each.
Currently Chandra had a King and a 2. Twelve. She needed ten. Pretty good odds as she picked up another card getting an Ace. Using it as an eleven would be too much so now she had thirteen. Her odds lessening. She watched her daughter with a smile before chirping, "Your turn little one!"

Rishima picked another card up from the pile, biting her lip as she did so. A 7. Now she needed a five to win. She smiled at her mother as the smell of cooking pastry filled her senses. She licked her lips and smiled brightly, "How long now?" She chirped before getting up and hugging her mother.
It was something she did a lot, simply enjoying the contact with another. When she had been with Amerald she had hugged his daughter Amelia a lot. "I wub you Mummy" She said as she snuggled into her lap and simply cooed softly to herself.
After a long moment she jumped up in suprise, a soft pink blush that stood out a lot on her pale white skin covered her face. "Sorry....."

"Hmmm...." She said as she pretended to think about it. "....ten more minutes I think." Cooking and playing cards with her daughter was fast becoming her faviourite hobbies. Here Rishima could be herself, not worry about someone trying to harm her. This place was her home, and as long as Chandra had control over it she would ensure her daughter was safe.
She knew that Rishima needed to go to visit Annabelle from time to time to train her powers of Air, and that every time she did she would fear would her safety.... but just as normal mothers had worries and fears these would be hers to bare.
"I love you too Rishi!" She said as she put her cards face down and pulled her daughter tighter into a hug. Although Rishima may not have inherited many of her physical traits she was very much like Chandra in mannerisms. She enjoyed physical contact, liked to try and help someone when they where sad. Yet she was slightly quieter than Chandra was. Not a bad thing, but it was all part of the package that made Rishima so unique.
As her daughter apologised and attempted to pull back Chandra pulled her closer and stroked her hair softly, "Never apolgise for hugging me Rishima! She smiled softly and kissed her forehead. "You are my daughter, and I love your hugs! However...." she started as she picked her daughter up in her arms and flung her onto her back. "...we have a tart to get out!
