The dragon herla cursed his luck as he pulled himself stiffly to his feet. How he had ended up in such a predicament was an anomaly to him, something that should not have been able to happen. His eyes narrowed as he looked up, sizing the walls of the pitfall that kept him kenneled here. One misstep. That was all it had taken for the magnificent hart to come tumbling down, and into the pit. It had left his hind foot sore, perhaps bruised, but it would heal.
He lifted his face to the morning sun. It couldn't even be evening, could it? Oh no, that would have been too pleasant.. Instead, the dragon herla found himself rather securely trapped, with the blazing sun of the afternoon only a few hours away. His ears pinned to his skull, hair sweeping as he gave a rather indignant toss of the head. How irritating. How absolutely, irritating... "...Such a pleasant morning, full of such ..interesting twists already.." His voice was little more than a grumble, smooth but sharp like velvet laid over a bed of spikes.

A few hours later another herla happened through the area. With his rather large wings slightly spread and drooping as the heat of the day came on, Xiang squinted his gold colored eyes, looking around. He didn't know this area, he felt he should but realized that it was only that it reminded him of his lost home, because he had not been here before.
The area appeared dry and sparse, it lay at the base of a mountain all sprawled out like a blanket, a fair distance from the forests that claimed the higher ground. Rocky paths and dead trees lay on the ground, as if a disaster had claimed it long ago and it had not yet recovered.
XI huffed and set to walking again, he was rather reluctant to have to travel this near desert in this heat, but with the only other option being to sit somewhere and wait it out, that was completely unpleasant and out of the question, he had to move, he kicked stones as he went, watching them skittering over the dusty surface. One stone he gave a good whack to, and he grinned as it went shooting off over the hard ground, but he paused as it seemed to vanish abruptly. From the distance he wasn't sure, everything was so bright, the land might fall away there, perhaps it was a sink hole, he moved towards it to investigate, maybe there was a spring, that would be lucky.
