After the California Primaries yesterday, the Santa Clara area has approved of the measure to build a new 68,500 seat stadium next to the Great America theme park for the San Francisco 49ers.
Some are upset by this and are still fighting the measure in order to keep the 49ers officially In San Francisco.
Suprisingly a move to Santa Clara doesn't fully upset me like I thought it would. It's still pretty close to San Francisco, only a 30 minute drive south. But it will be sad to walk into a new stadium, and not being able to witness the spot where the infamous "Catch" happened like I have been able to do every game I've gone to see. But we shall see how things progress in the months to come as they try to finalize and begin building a new stadium.

It's sad that they keep removing all the old historical stadiums, Meadowlands, Candle stick, whats next? Lambeau? Personally I like the old, I would rather sit in a blizzard at Lambeau over the air condition or heating at jerry world any day.

Personally, I would love for them to do what they did at Soldier field in Chicago. Have the 49ers play a season or two in Stanford or another local college stadium So they can remodel/upgrade Candlestick point to meet current stadium standards in the NFL.
Of course having Mesure J pass doesn't mean they will go through with it. A while back the city of San Francisco passed a similar mesure for the 49ers to build a new stadium at Hunters point with an attached shopping mall to the stadium. Back when Eddie DeBartalo was in charge of the team, but those plans fell through in the end. So there is still a glimmer of hope that the 49ers will stay in San Francisco.

I would much rather the Niners build a new stadium in Santa Clara. Candlestick is soooo bad. It's so old and decrypt. It's a terrible stadium. Not to mention is takes like, 3 hours just to get out of the place. The Stadium in Santa Clara will be much easier to get out of. There are three major freeways near it. Exiting will be much easier, and we'll finally have a chance to host a Super Bowl in Northern California.

Tis true, from what I can remember the only Superbowl held in northern California was back in... Superbowl XIX in... Stanford.
That and lets take a look at some of the other teams in the NFL who play for one city but play in a different location. The New York Giants and Jets both play out of New Jersey, the Dallas Cowboys play out of Irving Texas, and don't get me started on the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim, they are two different cities, officially they play out of Anaheim yet they want to be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Pick one or the other.
Sad thing is, when they build this new stadium, by that time I'll no longer be living in Northern California. I'm leaving next month to spend some time in Japan, then when I come back to the states, whenever that is, I'll either be living back in South Cal or Seattle Washington. So it may be a while before I get to enjoy their new stadium, wherever they decide to build it.
