Ok so I'm just recently getting into Steampunk fashion and need some help we some easy, cheap, and nice outfits. Any ideas at all would help.

Ah yes, the immortal issue. Sadly I don't think there is such a thing as decent, cheap, steamy wear!

Looking at what your avatar is wearing isn't a bad starting point.
The second issue of Steampunk Magazine has a nice article on steampunk fashion you could read for inspiration.

Failing that, check out any local vintage fashion shops or army surplus places for anything that catches you eye. You might be in luck!

One chap I saw pull of something cheap and respectable, was simply wearing smart trousers, a smart shirt and suspenders and a rather dashing newsboy hat or a bowler.
I got my bowler hat from a fancy dress shop. biggrin

And thrift stores, don't forget thrift stores.

Yeah! Those too! biggrin However, a word to the wise, it's quite hard to find vintage clothes that fit 'modern men' because men of previous decades tended to be rather short and have small heads.

So if you are tall/long arms/long legs/big head you may struggle at times.
It's not impossible! But just keep it in mind. Sometimes you can fix it by making alterations to the item of clothing.

You could always learn to make your own clothes. mrgreen

Lol, Annie. You make it sound so crazy impossible.

I think a Thrift Store is the best place to start. Just don't be afraid to be picky. The most important think when shopping for steampunk things at a thrift store is to look for fabrics which seem appropriate. Natural fabrics as opposed to synthetics. Linen and tweed. The kind of thing where the weave is prominent.

If you can find a good cotton/linen button-up and a pair of trousers you like then all you need is either a vest or a pair of suspenders. The two give off different vibes, but either one adds that extra layer of style. That's a decent base and then you can add on when you have more funds.
